Today we meet Favour who recently graduated with a Bachelor’s in Computer Science Education from Ekiti State University in Nigeria.

Responses have been edited for clarity and length.

When did you join the Student Ambassadors community?

I joined the community in 2020.

What was being a Student Ambassador like?

Joining the MLSA program for me is one of the best things that ever happened to me in life.

The program which has ambassadors in almost all higher institutions not just in Nigeria but across the world opens you up to a global network of talented community builders and super tech professionals.

I have also had access to tons of resources from Microsoft Learn - https://aka.ms/learn an all-encompassing free learning platform to learn almost anything, mostly around tech and career development, to invite-only bootcamps, meetups, webinars, etc., with Microsoft FT Employees and other tech leaders, both virtual and physical events.

The MLSA program has also connected me with some of the best people in my life at the moment, including one of my mentors, Olanrewaju Oyinbooke.

Was there a specific experience you had while you were in the program that had a profound impact on you and why?

During my time in the program, I, alongside other student ambassadors on campus, built a strong community with over a thousand community members of students and professionals.

With over 12 meetups and bootcamps organized, we are reaching out to over 2000 students, who gained valuable tech skills from attending the meetups I organized.

As a result of my successes and impact in the program, I reached the peak in the milestone level, becoming not just a Microsoft Learn Student Ambassador but a Gold Ambassador. My community fortunately also got into the pilot phase of the Microsoft Campus Club program, transforming the community from just the usual MLSA EKSU community to MLSA Campus Club Ekiti State, which helped us to reach more students and have more impact on campus, which later brought me the nickname “Microsoft Boy” to me while on campus.

Tell us about a technology you had the chance to gain a skillset in as a Student Ambassador. How has this skill you acquired helped you in your post-university journey?

In my third year in the program, I specialized in a specific Microsoft technology called Microsoft Power Platform, after attending a meetup which opened my eyes to the amazing world of automation and the power of LowCode technology with Microsoft Power Platform, find out more: https://www.microsoft.com/power-platform/.

My interest in leveraging these set of tools for building solutions and solving real world problems, with these AI-Powered LowCode tools led me to write articles and eventually start the community, Power Platform User Group Ado-Ekiti. A community of not just students this time around but business owners and entrepreneurs who want to leverage Microsoft Power Platform tools to empower their businesses to achieve more and reduce time wastage by automating repetitive business processes and tasks.

This community has hosted the Global Power Platform Bootcamp in Ekiti State over the past three years (2021-2023). The Global Power Platform Bootcamp is a global free event, hosted around the world for anyone who wants to learn more about Microsoft’s Power Platform tools.

What is something you want all students, globally, to know about the Microsoft Learn Student Ambassador Program?

As I graduate from the program today, I vividly remember the impact I have made through the MLSA Program, making me a community leader in the tech ecosystem here in Ekiti State, Nigeria, and my global impact as well

The MLSA program connects you to a global community of friends and connections across several institutions in your country and around the world as well.

What advice would you give to new Student Ambassadors, who are just starting in the program?

My advice to new Student Ambassadors is to leverage the network that this community gives to you and ensure you truly be a force for good by impacting and teaching other students the technology you learn.

Share a favorite quote with us! It can be from a movie, a song, a book, or someone you know personally. Tell us why you chose this. What does it mean for you?

My favorite quote is from my mum, and it says: “A good name is better than silver and gold” and for me. This quote makes me always remember where I’m coming from.

Tell us something interesting about you, about your journey.

In our last bootcamp, after a long time in Ekiti State we had a very practical hands-on session, giving every attendee a computer system and Internet connection to follow through our amazing speaker’s practical sessions, with code labs after each session to drive more the knowledge.

These bootcamps have a very high number of attendees and so far, have reached a total of 1,350 persons.

I am also glad to have organized and been a part of some programs such as:

  1. Power Platform and AI Saturdays (A One-month practical class on platform and AI)
  2. AI Led Quarterly Project (October - December 2023)

I have also received swags, learning and professional exams vouchers, and other program incentives, thanks to the amazing program managers for always improving the program incentives.
