Hi all,

We just released an update to the community and I wanted to share some information about the changes, what they mean to you and how your feedback impacts the way we build out the Microsoft Tech Community.

What’s new?

In this release, we started some work to remove the ‘My Home’ page. Many of you have told us that the filters it provides are useful but are buried too deep for them to be easily discoverable. We have pulled the filters out and applied them to the home page Latest Activity feed.

View of TechCommunity home page, My Activity with filters

This allows you to filter the feed of activity you see from your favorited spaces by either Newest, Popular (most likes), Experts or Unanswered posts. I hope you will find these filters useful and help everyone, from new users looking for popular threads, to our MVPs and other influencers who come to help users get answers to their questions.

We have not finalized the plan for the final removal of the My Home page, but we will do it in a way that makes it easier to access your favorite communities and conversations.

Other changes in this release include:

  • Support for Knowledge bases added
  • Having listened to the feedback we changed all existing references to “Floated Topics” to “Pinned Topics”.
  • Fixes for broken links in the “Top Liked Ideas” component
  • Fixes for some rendering issues on Mobile and tablets
  • Other fixes

What’s next?

As a result of the positive feedback we have received about the filters on the homepage, we are looking to roll them out to all community spaces. We are also working on improving the sorting of blog filters, changes to our community terms of service to support our new Community Event space, making it easier to find your own accepted solutions and continuing to improve the homepage load times.

Please remember to share your ideas in the Community Ideas space as we do look at every idea submitted and put your feedback at the heart of our planning.

I understand your concern, we are working on ways to make those feeds load faster and also hope to add auto scroll so that when you get to the bottom it will automatically load the next set of posts.

I will of course post an update as we progress with the loading times.

That's too bad. Only speaking for myself, but I much preferred the succinct and compact list of newest messages on the My Home page than the "bloated" listing on the Home page's latest activity feed. I could see, what, maybe 2 dozen (?) listed in a single screen. Now I have to wait 10 seconds for just 5 of the most recent posts that I have to scroll to see. If I want to see more I have to click a button and wait even more. Can't say that's more efficient for me.

Thanks for the update and ongoing improvements. Surfacing the filters more prominently is a nice enhancement, I don't tend to use them but I probably would now. Knowledge bases sound intriguing! After reading up on them, I think they could be put to good use here.
