Speak for yourself Chris_Chiesa. I manage thousands of clients and I find the stagnant nature of some It departments to cause stagnation in the business.
Sure, some users fire a computer to run a single app. But in many cases this is not the only thing ppl do. Now, I'm not only talking about Windows alone here, but the development of Windows in this direction is one key components in the current drive in flexibility and user efficiency we've seen over the past years, where we have pretty much changed everything, how we work, where we work, data flow, security and so on.
What we fond was the illusion of stability through stagnation was a huge hindrance, and also a root cause of user dissatisfaction.
Just look at businesses moving from a locked down W7 world to Mac. Ooooh, all is so much better now. Mac is better.
No, it's not. We have Mac as well. It's not better, it's not more efficient, and it does not cause more user satisfaction. It's the perceived difference by the change ad the hype of Apple.
With a rock solid managed W10/11 environment that is not locked down, with higher end devices, our users are now preferring Windows. And as long as they find what they're lokking for, and as long as clients are properly managed, they are pleased with this development.
We were one of the first organisation's in the world moving over to W8, I even got a Gandalf Style t-shirt from Microsoft because of this, and I've not look back since.
Sure, you need to know what you're doing, you need to know how to make sure your users always see what they're looking for. Sometimes you need a tech tip of the day, a one liner of info, a week or so before rolling out the update, like the the new W8 start menu. But, at long at they open the menu and see what they need, they could not care less of this menu looks. And those who do care are power user enough to figure things out.
Also, what we see is this user freedom on the computers increases user general computer knowledge and expertise over time, and users we thought were technological imbeciles suddenly shows up at a presentation doing **bleep** you never expected etc.
So no, I don't agree, and I think your outdated. The world is not stagnant. And new users expect something else from us than we gave them 10 years ago.
