Disabled user move files to activate account - how are people doing it
When a user is disabled in Entra ID, I normally MANUALLY copy / delete the files to another OneDrive For Business account, often their manager. I use a 3rd party tool to copy from the disabled use account. Iam a Global Admin and I also have the SharePoint Admin Role. I often find that their data to be large and it takes a LONG time. I tried to do a Power Automate workflow yet I am a sys admin and not a developer so I get confused quickly with code. How are people handling requests to move data to another OneDrive for Business account from a disabled one to an enabled one? I worry about synchronizing it with OneDrive on my local laptop and then trying to MOVE. I don't know if that will ever work or if it will COPY instead of MOVE.54Views1like3CommentsWindows One Drive shared folder suddenly become shortcut instead of folders
Hi, I am having an issue that I need help with. I have my One Drive account for several years. I have my main account signed in on my laptop. I have 4 other users sharing their folder with edit access to my main account. I add them as short cut to my main account. In the past, on my laptop, they function as folders. Meaning, I can move, delete, add files and they essentially function as a folder. Now, all my shared folder from my other users suddenly becomes short cut. When I open the folder, it brings me to the browser for me to sign in and view them. This never happened before and I am not sure what caused it. Please help. Edit Update: I am able to fix this by logging into One Drive with my other user account. Seems like not all accounts are affected only some. I know its not a fixed but at least a temporary solution. The problem seems to be on Microsoft side and I hope they fixed it soon or else I will be going to Google Drive. Update 2: This issue was ongoing since June 7, 2024. As of today, June 19, 2024 it still has not been fixed. Also, one of the Always on device folder on my laptop start deleting stuff on its own. I had to disble the always on device to get it to stop. Great job Microsoft, the most valueable company in the world. I think I will be moving to Google Drive.17KViews19likes50CommentsIssue with accessing personal vault on OneDrive app post restart
When I opened my onedrive mobile app today the app pushed a message saying that a restart was required. I restarted the app and it told me to set up my personal vault. I've been using my personal vault for several years now so no set up was required. When I logged into my personal vault, all of the files within it were missing. They're available on the online version of onedrive but not in the app version. There's nothing in the recycling bin and there's no recent activity to suggest mass movement/deletion of files. I've restarted the app multiple times, tried with and without wifi, and have tried on different devices - all are showing an empty vault. Has anyone had this problem? Is this a syncing issue or a bug with the new app?308Views6likes5CommentsCan I delete data on my computer after transferring it to OneDrive?
I just started using our Microsoft 365 account. I want to collect my current files in a single archive. I have 1TB of memory on Onedrive. Is it okay if I delete all the data from my computer after transferring it to OneDrive? Or does all my data have to be on both OneDrive and my computer?2.2KViews0likes6CommentsUrgent Complaint – OneDrive Disrupted My Local Files and Workflow
Dear Microsoft Support Team, I am writing to formally express my deep frustration with how OneDrive disrupted my workflow and caused significant inconvenience. I never expected a simple cloud storage service to override my local files and create such a chaotic situation without my explicit permission. The Problem Without my consent, OneDrive moved my local files into the cloud, making them unavailable offline and disrupting the entire file structure on my computer. I had no idea where my documents were stored, leading to confusion and anxiety. Additionally, this unexpected synchronization slowed down my computer considerably, making it almost unusable while it processed thousands of files. This was an unnecessary burden, especially considering that I never intended for OneDrive to take control over my local data. Time and Financial Loss The impact of this issue has been severe: Countless hours wasted trying to understand what had happened to my files. Increased anxiety due to the fear of losing critical documents. Technical support costs incurred to troubleshoot and restore my system. Productivity loss while waiting for the computer to finish syncing thousands of files I never asked to be moved. Request for Change A service like OneDrive should never move local files without explicit user approval. The default behavior should be copying files to the cloud, not transferring them away from the local device. I urge Microsoft to: Ensure OneDrive does not alter local files without user confirmation. Provide a clearer setup process that allows users to choose exactly how their files are managed. Make the reversal of such changes easier, as restoring files to their original location is currently a tedious process. This issue has caused me considerable stress, financial loss, and wasted time, and I expect Microsoft to address this matter seriously. I appreciate your time in reviewing this complaint and would like to hear how Microsoft plans to improve this aspect of OneDrive. Sincerely, Leonardo98Views2likes3CommentsWeird serious problem with shared folders in personal Onedrive after windows 10 update.
Hi there, Last week my PC got updates from MS for windows 10 , and after the reboot my Onedrive local client started doing weird things deleting folders and renaming them to names with -COMPUTERNAME behind them. My setup is as follows: I'm logged on to my own Onedrive In my Onedrive I have shared folders with data that other family members in a family subsciption shared with me. There is a lot of data in them, some have 660Gb of pics and videos. I added those shared folders to my Onedrive, so I can access them in my own explorer without logging on to another account. This setup has been working fine for years, up until this MS update... I noticed after the reboot that my Onedrive Personal client was deleting a lot of folders from the local Onedrive folder on my harddrive, but only the folders that have the shared offline data, they were in the recycing BIN. I tried to re-connect the Onedrive but nothing changed, the online view in my Onedrive was still intact , including the shared folders from other Onedrives, but locally these were gone. So at that point I saw a different file structure online compared to the one in my own Explorer. I then tried to restore them from the recycling bin, only to find out that Onedrive would rename them to 'ORIGINALNAME-WIN10' where WIN10 is my computername. It then started uploading all this data AGAIN to my online )storage, the 'shared (Gedeeld) folders were copied into my own drive with the label 'private' behind it, but that is absolutely not what should happen, my own drive would have been full within a day if I didn't break off this operation. Here you can see a screenshot of what was happening, while it was still 'syncing': I tried re-installing and re-connecting the Onedrive client, and also removing all the extra copies of the folders online AND offline, hoping it would resync the whole thing from the Original online shared folders. The shared folders just don't turn up anymore in my local view. Instead the Onedrive client started renaming even more shared folders that seemed untouched before, and uploading the contents to my own Onedrive.... So to make it absolutely clear what happened: the shared folders that were only in the Cloud didn't turn up locally anymore, the shared folders that were on both sides were renamed locally and copied back to the cloud as a new private copy folder (as you can see in the screenshot). Did MS change something with the last updates that forces shared data to actually be taking up space in your own Onedrive, where this was not the case before? Or is this just something that went corrupt on my own PC and can I fix it somehow? I can't imagine them changing something that has such an impact without any warning since it causes a lot of trouble for people using shared folders and also a LOT of network traffic if everyone with shared folders gets into these issues.... I hope some real expert on Onedrive can tell me what is going on, and esp. how to fix it? To be honest, this seems a PRETTY SERIOUS issue if other have it too... ;) Marcel258Views3likes3CommentsHow To Turn Off OneDrive for Business Backup If you Can't Login?
I have a friend who's laptop she used for both personal and work, she has now left the company and one drive for business she has installed on her machine will no longer login due to her works Microsoft account being closed. The issue I have is that she had chosen to backup her Desktop, Documents and Pictures folder to Onedrive, this means these folders have been moved from C:\Users\Username\ to Onedrive, Normally if I wanted to turn off Onedrive backup and restore these folders back to her local drive, I would open OneDrive Settings and Select Manage backup and then turn off backup for these folders, which would restore the Desktop, Documents and Pictures folder back to the Local Drive (ie C:\Users\username\). As I am unable to login to OneDrive I cannot get to the Manage Backup Option in Settings. Does anyone know how I can restore the Location of the Desktop, Documents and Pictures folder without going to Settings in OneDrive?60Views0likes2CommentsCannot delete shared files
I have shared a folder with hundreds of photos with two people and given them edit rights. Neither one of them has the option to "delete" photos (our goal is to mutually cull hundreds of photos down to a few dozen for our web site). No "delete" option appears at the top bar when selecting individual or several photos at once. Is this function not available using "Share?" See attached screen grabs from one of the people I Shared the folder with. Help appreciated. Thanks!Solved11KViews1like5CommentsStorage full but only 1% used
I am not an IT high knowledge. Can use programs but don't always understand how tings work. I have onedrive with 1TB storage. I am wanting to use the account for backup of my files on laptop. When I look at Manage my storage it says 1% in use but when I try to place folders/files onto onedrive it says not enough space. I cannot understand this. I've tried emptying the recycling bin but cannot seem to be able to delete anything - either in one go or individual files. Instructions say "Delete in Navigation Bar" but not on my screen! Can anyone help me please?1.8KViews0likes2CommentsAdding a folder on an external drive to OneDrive
The reason for asking this question is existing discussions on the subject seem to provide contradictory information. Can I include a folder (i.e., D:\Finances\Taxes\TY 2024) on the USB external drive D: and all subfolders to the default OneDrive folders under C:\Users\nagdt\OneDrive so it will be backed up just like the default OneDrive folders, and if so, how? FYI... When I go to OneDrive Settings -> Sync and backup -> Back up important PC folders to OneDrive -> Manage Backup, I am not offered an option to add a folder in addition to the five primary default folders except for those folders under the five primary default folders. Thanks! NAGDT56Views0likes1CommentOneDrive folder menu issues
For roughly a week, when I go into a “Shared by me”folder the only menu item above is “Shate”. “Add items” has disappeared, making the folders essentially non-functional. The people I’ve shared with also complained months ago that the “download” menu item disappears as soon as they select one of the files (when I could still put files in, ahem). Why is the browser interface so buggy? Thus is true in Edge and Safari both, on phone and laptop.82Views0likes1CommentRemoved Documents on D Drive?
I have a PC with Win 10 on C drive, but all my documents (pictures, music, documents) live on the D drive, which is a separate 3TB HDD drive on my PC. I noticed that in Windows Explorer "Documents" folder was pointing to the OneDrive folder and not the Documents folder on my D: drive. So I attempted to unlink OneDrive from my PC and told it not to sync with all my folders. A couple folders were grayed out, in particular the documents folder. So, I told OneDrive to completely unlink from this PC. I had no idea that OneDrive was even linked in any way to the Documents folder on my D drive, however, after telling OneDrive to go away I don't want you anymore, now everything in my documents folder on my D drive is just, gone. I checked Recycle Bin, not there. I did a reset/restore to a earlier date (two days ago), but this did not bring anything in the folder back. What happened? Where did all the documents go?4Views0likes0CommentsOneDrive cannot die!
I cannot get rid of OneDrive on my Windows 11 Pro. (Upgraded from Home ver) First, on poor advice, I just deleted it from Programs & Files. That did not work. I reinstalled it and it got even worse. Everything wants to use the Taskbar tab that has Never existed even if I try and tie OD to it! I have disabled it from Startup using both Task Manager & Taskkill commands. I have disabled it with the Group Policy Editor. I have disabled it in the Register. I have found dozens (actually hundreds) of instructions online for getting rid of it, but so far, they ALL show screens that are completely unlike mine, or settings, choices & drop-down menus mine does not have! VERY FRUSTRATING. I have copied all the files within the OneDrive folder to another. But, if I try and delete the OneDrive folder (EVEN AFTER DELETING OneDrive) my desktop, documents, etc. all GO AWAY! When I try and save a file anywhere on the boot drive, the stupid OneDrive is out of space message STILL appears! I have so many app’s (programs) installed that are now unavailable to reload, that I cannot either do a Windows reload or clean install without losing a vast amount of software I depend on. I am fairly ‘puter literate, but at 79 years, I have forgot a lot, and NEED HELP!38Views0likes0CommentsOneDrive Pinned Folders don't appear in Edge or Chrome but do appear in Brave
Within the last 2 weeks something has changed. Pinned folders no longer show up at the top of the page in OneDrive when using the Edge or Chrome browser. If you use Brave they do appear in OneDrive If you use Sharepoint they work in all browsers.Solved23Views0likes1CommentOne Drive not uploading file
Hi When I try to upload a file of about 500MB-1GB or more, it never works, it keeps going for a long time, of the order of hour/s, and then typically right at the end of the upload, or near the end, get the error message shown. Neither option (Replace or Keep both) works, and it takes the whole time again to process as well.49Views0likes1CommentSync performance and the future of OneDrive sync
Many of us have experienced significant performance issues with OneDrive when syncing large volumes of files (300,000+). This has been a long-standing problem. Has there been any communication from Microsoft regarding the future of OneDrive sync and plans to resolve this issue? We do not encounter this level of performance degradation in competing products, and it has been a major headache for our customers. I understand that the recommended approach is to use OneDrive and SharePoint through the web interface. However, we do not always have control over how our customers choose to use their data. In many cases, our customers prefer to utilize the Sync feature for syncing hundreds of thousands of files or more. What actions are being taken on the development side to address this issue?107Views1like1CommentOnedrive not syncing to file explorer (Windows11)
Hi team, I've recently come across an issue with my one drive suddenly not syncing to my file explorer. I have lost access to viewing my shared documents in file explorer. I can only access my shared files via them default opening in a webpage and not the local file explorer like they used to. I do not have access to change the default program via the "open with" option as I have seen could work - the only option I have is "open" which then opens the webpage. Can anyone help advise how to work around this and regain access to my shared files in file explorer please? Thanks.608Views2likes4CommentsIssues with One Drive on Mac
Hi Recently One Drive stopped working on my mac with a repeated pop up saying it was broken. I reinstalled it and I'm still having issues. I have around 250gb of files stored in there but most of that is photo back up. I am a freelancer and I have always worked straight out of One Drive folders on my mac, so I know it's backed up in the cloud and I can access it elsewhere if I need to. However since the update and syncing etc it's not working as it was. I don't want to download all of my files to my mac as I only need two folders that contain all the stuff I regularly work on and I don't have space for all of it. I've tried ctrl clicking on these folders to keep them on my device but that then triggers a pop up to say the device couldn't connect to the server. The wifi etc is fine. If I go into One Drive preferences it then says it can't locate my 'Personal' folder (cue panic as this is where all the photos are stored) but when I go online it is all there. Can anyone help me solve this? I had an email recently saying the price of office was going up a LOT recently which I resent as I can't even get this to work as it was. I really don't want to uninstall again if I can help it as One Drive is just trying to sync all the time and using up so much CPU. Thanks Faye59Views0likes0Comments
