There is no foolproof way to prevent an Excel spreadsheet from being opened in Google Sheets. Google Sheets is a separate software application and can open Excel files, although there may be some formatting or functionality differences between the two programs.

However, you can take some measures to discourage or limit the use of Google Sheets with your Excel spreadsheet:

    1. Password protect your Excel file: You can set a password to protect your Excel file from being opened or modified by unauthorized users. This can act as a deterrent for individuals attempting to open the file in Google Sheets.
    2. Restrict sharing permissions: When sharing your Excel file, make sure to set appropriate sharing permissions. Limit the access to only trusted individuals who are using Excel or compatible software. This can help prevent accidental or unauthorized access via Google Sheets.
    3. Use advanced Excel features: If your spreadsheet relies on advanced features or formulas that are not fully supported by Google Sheets, it may discourage users from attempting to open it in Google Sheets. Utilize features that are specific to Excel and not available in Google Sheets to make your file less compatible.
    4. Convert to a different file format: If maintaining compatibility with Google Sheets is not a requirement, you can consider converting your Excel file to a different file format that is not typically associated with Google Sheets, such as CSV (Comma Separated Values) or XPS (XML Paper Specification).

Please note that these measures are not foolproof, and determined individuals may still find ways to open your Excel file in Google Sheets or convert it to a compatible format. It's important to assess the level of sensitivity of the data in your spreadsheet and take appropriate security measures accordingly.
