How to replace Client Backup with Microsoft 365?
Microsoft 365 Business is recommended as a replacement for Client Backup removed from Windows 2019 Server https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-server-essentials/get-started/what-s-new-19. I'v...

Hi Seti
M365B doesn't include backup capabilities for client devices. You can get file and settings synchronisation with the ability to restore earlier versions if needed, but it's not a PC backup/restore solution if you want something that allows a bare metal restore. If you still need full device backup for speed of backup and restore reasons, you could look at using backup from within control panel, or optionally look at a third party back up offering if additional capabilities are required.

Hi Mark,
thanks for information. Microsoft removed Client Backup feature from Windows Server 2019 Essentials and they don't have replacement for it. I'll use Windows Server 2016 Essentials, it's the only suitable replacement for me now.
I've asked Microsoft support today and they have only Azure Backup, SharePoint and OneDrive as backup solutions. And Windows Server 2016 Essentials.

I know this post is pretty old, but I too am looking for the replacement of 'on premise' backup of client computers as was available with Win server 2012 R2 and 2016. With the Windows Server Essentials Experience, it provided an on-premise method of backing up client computers with a centralized dashboard that displayed backup status, client security status, and client update status. This solution is ideal for small businesses. I haven't found any 3rd party solutions that are as elegant and effective. Many small businesses have insufficient bandwidth to use cloud services for this purpose (especially if they need to restore an entire drive) so an on-premise solution is ideal.
Has anyone found a solution that is a good replacement for this orphaned MS server product?

Hello Howard Frazier,
I have started to use Veeam Backup & Replication. It is enterprise product, backup is fast, it has server and client backup. I am using it already for 2 years. Community Edition is free, and it is sufficient solution for me.

What it does not appear to provide; ability to monitor security and update status of individual workstations. Is this feature embedded somewhere?
