Is there a way to create custom Chat sections other than Pinned and Recent?
Under Chat you can pin a particular chat and it will show under a "Pinned" section that can be collapsed / expanded, besides the "Recent" section that is always there. As you start pinning more conversations the Pinned section can get more cluttered.
Is there a way to create custom sections? For example to group people from TeamA so I can find their contacts easily instead of having to search for them.
Note that I don't want to send a message to multiple people at once, the idea is to be able to quickly find the contacts that are available from a given group.
This feature is available on Slack (custom sections) and it was really useful to me, before I moved to my current employer which uses Teams instead.
To be clear, I think this is tied to the Public Preview option. I enabled it, a few minutes later I got the popup and could make groups of chats. I tried disabling the option and restarted Teams, the groups went away. Re-enabled, groups are back.
The option is in the About Teams section (bottom left of Settings screen) at the bottom.
- VincentZouCopper ContributorThis is also available in Cisco WebEx Teams, and even in Microsoft OCS long time ago, we're using WebEx teams and felt difficult to use, after switching to MS Teams, it is even worse!
- jefferyshallCopper ContributorIt is such an OBVIOUS feature how it made it though dev, testing, beta etc without being added is beyond comprehension. Let alone it's years later and still isn't there.

jefferyshall Welcome to Microsoft in the modern era. You basically just described every one of their software solutions from the last decade. I too, am amazed and how such a large company consistently manage to miss such obvious features. I guess they are just worried about core function and quality of life stuff like this gets tossed to the side.

Core features like choosing a default skin tone for reactions? No, they don't really care what actual users want.
- rafaelrsssCopper ContributorSame here... I work for a German company with 10.000+ employees, talking with people from several departments... would be a tremendous improvement if I could separate/organize people the way I want... it sounds like a very basic feature to be honest...

Adding another request for this feature. There are a few mentions of this at the Feedback site but not nearly as many upvotes as I'd expected.
If you have this issue, please upvote there to get it visible!

- RoccoMarcoCopper ContributorI've been eagerly awaiting this feature for quite some time. In my organization, we use Teams extensively, resulting in a multitude of chats. My pinned chat section has become quite extensive. The ability to create subgroups in addition to the existing 'pinned' and 'recent' categories would be immensely helpful.
Additionally, I believe the 'recent' chats should be kept separate from this grouping. The overall chat list should be organized by the most recent activity, regardless of whether a chat is added to a specific group or not.
I see a lot of good progression with Teams. I believe there is hope to see this implemented. - Paul_Sutton_trimacCopper Contributor
@williasousa
Definitely would be a great help in grouping contacts (ie family work friends etc).

Definitely need better chat grouping options. I work across approx. 20 teams as we make product(s), so there are LOTS of people I interact with every day, and so I started pinning "important active" conversations I didn't want to get lost in the "recent" list" with so many messages every day.
But now my "pinned" section is nearly a full screen tall and there is no other organization ability in Teams to help with this is there?
I agree - some custom grouping would be nice (and please don't suggest "Teams Teams" (vs "Teams Chat" as the "teams teams" (come on Microsoft, do you really not have better UI naming chops?) is even harder to use with "general" and other threads becoming more hidden and don't even get me started on trying to use a meeting chat to take notes (and then you can't copy paste them later from inside Teams! Argh! There is a reason people pay to use Slack!) williamsousa You can't group chats like that, but you can group contacts. Click where it says Chat and switch to the contacts view then you can add people to custom contact groups.

not anymore, unfortunately in the new MS Teams. There is no "Contacts" anymore. Very regrettable.

StevenC365 I don't have a "Contacts view".
- Jonatas4ndradeBrass ContributorIt seems they removed it from the New Teams.
Like, "you're not miserable enough, let's remove this too."
- toshafkCopper ContributorYes, that helps.
But what about new chats, that are not in the groups yet?
Is there any way in Chats to separate by "group chats", "personal" or add some custom separates- Jonatas4ndradeBrass Contributor
Hey there toshafk, I've found no such resource yet.
We are managing by creating custom chats (Too many groups already) and manually adding members as required.
However, if the organization is big enough, bloating arises.
There are too many custom chats and without proper classification/grouping it can get hard to locate what you need real fast.
