My Laptop shuts down during TEAMS calls
Like few other collogues I'm using a new Lenovo L13 Yoga. We are using Microsoft TEAMS as our formal application for conference and video calls. Recently we started facing a "random" issue in which ...

Hi everyone - please use the following mitigation plan for this issue while we work with Lenovo to uncover more of the root cause/solution to this: Lenovo Yoga L13 might shut down during Teams meetings (microsoft.com).

I believe I have discovered the core problem of why this is happening. From what I have reproduced and researched this looks to be a teams / windows issue with certain combinations of Intel hardware including the bios revision and Management Engine Drivers. From my experience this issue will come and go based on who ever is lagging behind in updates, MS or Intel. My X1 Nano recently received yet again a new bios update to fix an Intel CVE. The very next teams call after that update my systems starting doing the hard shutdown. Something with teams and windows in conjunction with these latest bios patches triggers what seems like a thermal fault like experience, even though in my case I can run Prime95 for 3 straight days no issues. A neat trick to prove this theory is when this is happening to me, I can go into power management advanced plan settings and do the following. Set "Processor Power Management - Maximum Processor State = 98%". When I make that tweak my system will stop crashing, as soon as I go back to 100% it crashes, but yet again Prime95 stable, no heat issues. 3-4 days after my recent bios update there was a new Intel ME Driver released and a new version of teams released, since installing those my issue has again gone away and I am back running at 100% cpu under power options. For the time being I am very cautious of when I update my bios, and if I do and there is an important meeting to be had, I simply drop my cpu down to 98% to avoid crashing in the middle of an important call. This is to say the least is very frustrating. Owning no less than a dozen high end systems I am personally starting to re-favor AMD over intel. My AMD boxes have been faster and more stable. My next laptop will be running AMD, likely a Thinkpad. Some of this issue has to be on the MS side for obvious reasons, teams is the 1 and only application that makes my system crash in this fashion.

BNano - Unfortunately, AMD based Lenovo Thinkpad Mobile Workstation P15v Gen3 with AMD Ryzen 7 PRO 6850H is experiencing the same problem - laptop powers off in the middle of Teams meeting.
I had all kinds of problems with this $3500 laptop, so I started a thread in Lenovo forums where I explained what kind of issues I had and how I tackled them. Issues ranged from sudden reboots while idling overnight, DPC latency causing audio cracks and pops, and of course - powering off in the middle of MS Teams meetings.
