Teams error "We ran into a problem. Reconnecting..."
We have a large number of users reporting that when they launch Teams or try to join a meeting in Teams they encounter an error message that states either "We ran into a problem. Try again in a few minutes" or "We ran into a problem...Reconnecting...". Screenshots attached.
- This happens both on the company network and on VPN while at home.
- All PCs are running Windows 10 1809
- Issue occurs on multiple Dell laptop models
Things we have tried:
- Sign out of Teams and sign back in (defaults to UPN@domain.com)
- Sign out of Teams and sign back in with the full email address instead of UPN@domain.com (example: "firstname.lastname@domain.com" instead of "UPN@domain.com")
- This seems to have temporarily worked for some of the users that attempted this workaround on 9/14
- Uninstall/Reinstall the Teams desktop app
- Clear Teams cache in %appdata%\Microsoft\Teams
- Uninstall/Update Teams mobile app
- Clear cached credentials in Credential Manager
- Update drivers/BIOS
Any input or advise would be much appreciated!
- TankiemoonCopper ContributorIf you have MFA on your work account, turn off the VPN this should prompt the system to open MFA. Once you enter the number in MFA reconnect your VPN
For some reason when you are connected to the VPN prior to opening teams it will not prompt MFA to open and allow you through. - carolinatafallaCopper Contributor
I have the same issue and I'm working on apple computer.. can't join any of my meetings today. What can i do to solve this? Never had this before and my internet connection is just fine. I re-started and problem persists.. any more tips to get this sorted?

My problem was sorted out when I changed my network provider. Initially I suspected the teams setup, then teams cache, poor network issues etc. I raised multiple incidents to the infra team in my org. However, once they asked me to connect to my mobile network. And that point of time, I realized that when my laptop is connected to my mobile network, MS Teams works fine. Then I complained to my ISP. They also observed the same. But could not resolve the issue. So ultimately I changed my network provider. And since last August I have never faced this issue. I guess, the bandwidth was the issue. Not sure if it may help you. But you can try connecting to other network to verify whether it works.

priyankak8 Thanks a lot for your message and tips! it saves me some valuable time in finding what's going on.. i will try to connect to another network and see. I did not have issues until today ( after using teams for quite sometime now) so i will check with the network provider .. have a nice day!

Josiah_H Despite the fact that it might not be relevant to your issue, I am sharing my experience in the hopes that someone else may find it useful. This problem could occur if you use some apps that have a problem with Certification. In my local machine, I was using Fiddler to check http requests, and my team discovered the problem. It worked again after closing Fiddler. The outlook app showed me an error about Fiddler certification, so I determined it might be related.

I solved my issue by changing a setting in my vpn connection to not use same gateway as vpn - known as split tunnel.
Modify the properties of the VPN connection to not be used as the default gateway for all traffic:
- Navigate to Control Panel > Network and Sharing Center > Change Adapter Settings
- Right click on the VPN connection, then choose Properties
- Select the Networking tab
- Select Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) and click Properties
- Click Advanced
- Deselect the box for "Use default gateway on remote network.
- Click OK to apply the changes to the interface.
- the next time you reconnect to the vpn you should notice internet is on your home connection, not your vpn connection.
let me know if it works for you.

Josiah_H None of the suggestions worked except changing to Windows 8 Compatibility Mode. Haven't had a problem since.

Josiah_H there are loads of posts about this for Mac on the internet in teh Teams forums but they give the staple answer and lock the post.
Just a thought for you. I'm using a MacBook Pro 16 (Monterey 12.5) and have suffered this past few months with Teams disconnecting and having to use web versions or my iPhone.
Recently discovered after removing all other applications from startup (System Preferences > Users and Groups > Select User > Login Items) teams is now working perfectly. I re-added the applications to startup and it failed again.
Posting incase this helps.

• Can this be reproduced when this Users can login to another computer? If yes then
• Please clear cache profile using registry Go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\16.0\Common\Identity (expand it and delete all identities which you can see User's O365 email address)
Restart and it worked for us

@ tried these steps. But now the teams shows that it is starting off... But the tools does not start off.
My organization is not able to support here. I need solution asap. I am not able to attend the meetings from my laptop. Somehow I managed for last 2 weeks but it is becoming a bottleneck now.
