Sort folders in New Outlook
Hi all,
New to the forum, so apologies if this has been asked (I could not find an answer by searching).
In classic outlook I could sort subfolder by right click on the parent folder and sort A-Z. In fact, when I 'move' a folder, it goes to the top of the new folder, and does not seem to be a way to manually sort it.
Is there a way to sort subfolders (A-Z is preference, but if that can't happen, then manually), in New Outlook?
To build on noah000006 response, you can now manually reorder your folder with the drag-and-drop functionality. Currently, there is no command to Sort folders A-Z.
If you find this information helpful, please mark it as the best solution, which will help others with the same question.

Thank you for your reply. I don't have that menu option.
Do you know how I can turn that on?

Hi Teresa_Cyrus , thanks. Yes, I am aware you can manually sort the folders. My disappointment is that I can't sort A-Z. I have to revert to Classic to sort A-Z.
Poor decision in my opinion to remove this capability. In a product that is promoted to be smarter and more productive, we remove this capability so we can spend more time manually sorting our folders.....?
That's fair.

md_mandcs I have the same need. This is really annoying, backward step. It's a pretty basic requirement.

Need this yesterday. Please release the update!

md_mandcs This is a silly workaround, but I switch back to Old Outlook, leaving a feedback comment, and then in Old Outlook it auto sorts, and holds onto the new sorting when I swap back to new outlook. If just adding one new folder though I can usually get it to drag where I want it though.

carolcobb this was so helpful! Thanks much.
Not yet, but work is still scheduled in this area.

unfortunately, it looks like it's only going to be a drag and drop, not alpha-sort. Those of us with literally hundreds of sub folders who need to trace something back are finding this a real handicap. Going back to Classic and sorting them doesn't carry over to the new Outlook either. Overall this seems like a horrible decision on Microsoft's part.

My folders are ordered manually based on my work demand, and new Outlook screw things up by sorting folders in a whatsoever order that you define. New Outlook is too focused on flashy features and somehow just neglect all the tiny details that earned the practicality in old Outlook. In all senses, I'd say old Outlook is more powerful than the new one. - Fish0010Copper Contributor
I see the roadmap item but it doesn't say anything about sorting, it just says you can manually sort. I just installed new Outlook. Sorting still does not work at all, either manually or automatically; the rollout date says Sep 2024 but I am not optimistic about automatic sorting.

Fish0010 I see the rollout date has been updated to October 2024. I hope they don't delay it further as I prefer ordering the folder to my preference
