Nov 16, 2016New Skype for Business on Mac (Insider) build is available!
We have released a new build for Skype for Business for Mac client using Microsoft Auto Update.
What’s new in this release?
- Group management is available for O365 and SfB Server 2016 users (this functionality is not available for Lync Server 2013 users). Users can now:
- Add/create new contact group
- Delete a contact group
- Rename a contact group
- Users can tag contacts for status change alerts.
- Ability to add Enterprise Distribution Groups to contacts list
- New Single Window behavior – if Server Side Conversation History is disabled you will not have the ability to use Single Window Mode.
Next Steps
- From any Office for Mac app, go to Help | Check for Updates.
- Select “Automatically Check” or “Automatically Download and Install”.
- Select “Join the Office Insider” program, then select “Office Insider Fast” or “Office Insider Slow” depending how quickly you would like to receive updates.
- Click “Check for Updates” to install the latest updates.

My Office for Mac is up to date (16.2.156), including Insider builds. Skype for Business still does not allow me to 'Add Contact' as that option is greyed out on contacts not in my Contacts list. Please advise.

The UI for this is a little weird (in my opinion). When I click on the contacts menu by default "add a contact" is greyed out. If I search for someone not in my current contacts list and then click on their name, the "add a contact" option is enabled. It's easier in my opinion to just right-click them at that point rather and choose "add contact" than moving the pointer back up to the menu. Note that the latest release on the insider fast track is 16.3.121, released on 1/10
- Sascha SchmatzBrass ContributorWhen are we finally able AGAIN (because that one worked like a charm with Lync 2011 for macOS) to perform a "screen sharing" with Windows and NOT have to switch/open/join a dedicated meeting. That is most annoying part of my day to day experience.
- Brian PaystBrass Contributor
Sascha Schmatz - screen sharing is available now in 16.2.111 (fast release). I've been able to desktop share with Windows and Mac clients in some very early testing.

Awesome news - thanks for the info!!!
- Jason GriloCopper ContributorSame here, had a version working great with single convos and now i updated and its gone! back to single windows, this sucks.
- Sivaram NayuduCopper ContributorI agree this update looks to be a step backward. BTW, "Show conversations in separate windows" is not an option available in this new version.

@Everyone who has responded about single window not being available - if you have SSCH enabled can you please go to Skype for Business menu | Preferences | General tab. Are you able to uncheck "Show conversations in seperate windows"? Unchecking this option actually enables single window.

Just did the Office Insider Fast update to 16.1.436 and it's still not available as a preference setting nor are single window chats enabled.
- Eric PriceCopper ContributorMy Skype for Business preferences does not even have that option available. I made sure that was part of the screenshot I submitted with the bug report. I have now tried this on a machine running Sierra as well as El Capitan with the same results.
- Paul TackettCopper ContributorThis release actually feels like a step backward. Previously, I was able to have only a single window open and I would be able to interact with my SfB conversations. Now, the main window seems to have removed the ability to respond to my incoming IMs without opening up additional windows. Additionally, something that has been problematic for me for some time is that conversations from the same person are routinely split up in my conversation window. The entire history of the conversation with that person (or group of people) should be contained in a single collection that I can simply scroll back as long as I need to find the history. Hopefully, these will be fixed soon.
- Edon DurgutiCopper Contributorwhat about tabbed windows?

We have two options: Single Window or Multi-Window. In order to have Single Window you must have Server Side Conversation History (SSCH) setup in your environment.- Erik HendrixBrass ContributorRichard, when will we have it available irrespective of SSCH just like the Windows users?
