Microsoft To Do Tasks Disappeared
Hello,
I used to have ~100 tasks in my To-Do application these days. As of yesterday, they have been reduced to ~50. Multiple tasks disappeared from various lists (the lists are all intact).
I rely on To-Do a lot and that's why I have it on 2 Windows PCs, 3 iOS devices and 1 Android. All are synced to the ~50 baseline, which as of yesterday, since to be my as-is in Microsoft's servers.
All 6 applications (in all 3 different platforms), are on To-Do version 2.55 (latest one as we speak today). Of course I have uninstalled/re-installed, log-out/in, and changed passwords to my Office 365 account several times, with no effect.
When I visited the web app, to check the situation, my tasks were not deleted (i.e. reduced from ~100 to ~50), but I noticed, that these ~100 tasks, were not exactly my latest update (i.e. I have seen tasks here and there that I have recently closed, or changed that were not reflected in the web app). But at least the heavy reduction from ~100 to ~50 was not done (some hope there). But when I signed out and signed it again (always in the web app), then I saw all these tasks disappearing from here as well.
So now, all 6 apps (Windows, iOS and Android), plus the web app, are ALL SYNCHORNIZED to this ~50 tasks baseline, which as of yesterday, seems to be my new as-is in Microsoft's servers. The disappeared messages are not in deleted tasks folder of Office365/Outlook, etc. They are totally gone.
Can anyone support me, or suggest something to me ?
Thank you!

Hello Viterbi and others about your disappearing data on To Do. Is it possible that any you may have got assistance in getting your info back on To Do?
Same has just happened to me now, Man I had a lot of notes on there. I am a musician and many of my set lists, songs. music reminders, gig info. Yes Wunderlist was great. I have lost on all 4 devices. Spent so much time trying to find a contact email, chatroom anything for microsoft but no such luck, terrible terrible. If anyone has any info please drop me a line. much appreciated. all the best Denis
- BevFacAaronCopper ContributorI have used and loved Google's task list software for a long time, and having just started at a new job that uses MS Office, I thought I would try Microsoft's task list. That was a huge mistake apparently. I set up a dozen tasks in my first few days to organize my thoughts and pending tasks for this new job, and now they're just all unceremoniously gone. I don't know why I trusted Microsoft when so much of their other software works so poorly.
- ahrnorCopper ContributorSame happened to me while on vacation. What a bummer.
- FxFrankeCopper ContributorHi, same here. Happened today, all tasks gone from ToDo.
In my case, tasks in Outlook and Planner are still there, but I like the fact that ToDo is collecting all tasks in one place. And I have also planned some in ToDo, so not sure if they are gone, too.
It seems though that Teams has an app, which works similar to ToDo (Tasks from Planner), which also seems to collect tasks from different places. Maybe MS changed everything to Teams (as they are pushing this monster of a software massively) and didn't bother to tell anyone. Welcome to the world of monopolists.π
What I find interesting that nobody from MS has commented in this thread...
Well, see my comment before. - aarona1981Copper ContributorAll Flagged emails have been migrated to Teams inside of Tasks by Planner and To Do!! If you're trying to see flagged emails and click the To Do app you'll unfortunately be directed to the web app. I'm definitely going to ditch the new outlook..
- kimberlykimberlyBrass ContributorThis depresses me so much. This is how I managed my workflow. It's frustrating beyond belief. Just, wildly inferior. It's sooooo frustrating. I'm gutted.

I had this problem today where all my long-term to-do tasks disappeared. I signed out of Microsoft to do and then signed back in and they returned but I think I'll be exporting as a CSV regularly in case this happens and I can't get them back.

Hello
I made backups from ToDo over a link https://outlook.live.com/mail/0/options/general/export
so I exported a pst file which I could reimport in outlook.
Since february 2023 this do not work any more. No support / no answer!
I is a big problem for me!

- Thad_Nader10Copper ContributorIt sounds like you've already tried some troubleshooting steps, such as uninstalling/reinstalling the application, logging out/in, and changing passwords. However, since the issue seems to be persisting, you may want to try the following:
Contact Microsoft Support: Since this issue seems to be related to Microsoft To-Do, contacting Microsoft Support may be your best bet. They may be able to provide you with more specific guidance and help you troubleshoot the issue.
Check for updates: Make sure that all of your devices and the web app are running the latest version of Microsoft To-Do. You mentioned that all of your devices are on version 2.55, but it's possible that there may be a newer version available that could fix the issue.
Try a different internet connection: It's possible that the issue may be related to your internet connection. Try connecting to a different network, such as a mobile hotspot, and see if the issue persists.
Use a different device: If possible, try accessing Microsoft To-Do on a different device and see if your tasks are still missing. If they are, then the issue is likely with your account or the application itself. If they're not, then it may be an issue with the device you were previously using.
Backup your tasks: It's always a good idea to backup your tasks in case something like this happens again in the future. You can export your tasks to a CSV file and save them locally on your computer or in cloud storage.
Hopefully, one of these steps will help you resolve the issue with your missing tasks.- MarmaladeJamCopper Contributor
Thank you, I appreciate you taking the time to help however, I have deleted the app. I lost years of information, wasted days trying to get it back and now have absolutely no trust or belief in MS so won't be risking it again.
Thanks anyway,
EA
- Jon_BehCopper ContributorI absolutely understand. Exact same thing has happened to me. I don't ever want to trust MS again. I lost very important stuff. Do you have suggestions on a good alternative to Microsoft To Do?
- ChuckP84Copper ContributorThis problem just happened to me today. My phone was okay but the browser was missing items.
The creating a random task didn't work for me. For a couple lists a few tasks re-appeared but several items and complete lists were still missing.
I did manage to get my full lists back by completely clearing the browser's cache, cookies, and storage, etc. for "to-do.office.com" and "webshell.suite.office.com", then closed and revisited the page.- creampoetryCopper ContributorThank you so much Chuck, I was totally cacking myself but logging in using another browser shows all my tasks still there. Registered just to thank you.
- Tony BROOKSCopper ContributorSOLUTION! Thanks so much ChuckP84. After reading your suggestion I opened https://to-do.office.com/ in an Edge InPrivate window, my tasks are there! π
Next I will delete the cookies as you suggested.
- Tony BROOKSCopper ContributorAll my todo tasks disappeared since 1 February 2023. There are no advisories in our Service Health portal. What is going on Microsoft?

Tony BROOKS I totally agree as it is a total waste of time to chase Microsoft - itβs just not good enough though and they really ought to take responsibility. Moving forward, can you suggest a different but similar tool?? Thanks very much π

Hello Emma, try OneNote (todo flag) and/or Outlook tasks. The integration looks useful: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/office/create-outlook-tasks-in-onenote-19725ff3-0234-495d-9838-fb1f511e924f but in my work environment I don't think the integration works. I have a colleague who uses OneNote, I create calendar appointments and give them a category based on priority or project (https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/office/use-categories-in-outlook-com-a0f709a4-9bd8-45d7-a2b3-b6f8c299e079).
Some dissimilar tools: our team uses Jira and ServiceNow.

Tony BROOKS I lost 100s of ToDos (some of which I had saved since WunderList days with house measurements, etc.). I contacted MS Support and was told they had a "war room" in progress to address the lost data issue. That was months ago. No further contact from Microsoft though I've asked for an update multiple times, and of course, no resolution. As far as I can tell, they've taken no responsibility for this issue. If you want to save yourself a lot of grief, I'd encourage you to start over with another tool and never look back.
- Tony BROOKSCopper ContributorThanks for the update Chris98070 .
This is not a big deal for me as TODO was a secondary tool I use to manage my time at work.
It is not acceptable that Microsoft loose data like this though. And a shame, I love using the Todo app at home for personal tasks

This service seems to be able to hook into your To Dos directly and export/import for you:
I guess it's just an app that uses an API to access your data directly, whereas the official apps may or may not show the data correctly, as we're seeing here. My iOS app was showing everything, but suddenly the web/browser app stopped showing almost all of my items. Nice.
Microsoft, please read this.... The only way to export our todos is to export our entire Outlook data, which can take days? All emails, calendars, and everything?
Definitely switching off this incompetent service immediately. Completely ruined Wunderlist. Glitchy UI, sync issues, less customization, no data export, less options, etc. The entire MS product hierarchy is a glitchy convoluted mess. Unbelievable.
- nicos18Brass ContributorIndeed. Even Apple lets export individual files and data from the services
