Is there any kind of email or notification that is pushed when someone uses Storyline?

As per the title, I'm wondering if M365 will push out an email or any kind of notification is someone uses Storyline - assuming:

  • no topics were used
  • no one is FOLLOWING the individual
  • no one is mentioned

Would the 'Discover what's happening across your organization' auto-digest include storyline posts that no one has seen or engaged with?

Hello atrain204 and AllisonMichels. YES, I am ashamed to say that I spammed my whole company simply because I thought I was posting on my own Storyline.
    - no topics were used.
    - no one was following me at the time, but now I have one follower.
    - no one was mentioned. I just said, "This is a test of Viva Engage."
    - I clicked on my own name to get away from the Home tab and attempted to only put it on my personal space. I thought it would operate like a Facebook Wall, but it doesn't.

Viva Engage does not send out the email right away. I asked my co-worker if he got any mail from the Storyline that I made on Monday and he said he didn't get anything until Thursday. HOWEVER, I started receiving thumbs-up emoji by Tuesday and accumulated about 10 views. I thought it was because I was a member of an Engage Community called "All Company", so I created another community called "Tech Talk" and didn't invite anyone. When I posted there, I started receiving a lot of reactions from people. When I asked them how they knew I made that new Community, they said that I wrote a personal email to them! I asked them to show their inbox to me and it says in the "From:" field, "John Parkman", but when you hover your mouse over it, the email address is revealed as the noreply address from Yammer (I'm not allowed to post it here). I am very upset with this technique of "From" spoofing. It is what we train our employees to watch out for in cyber security! It is now Friday and my post has about 81 views. That means 81 of our organization's 171 email inboxes received a letter. I have already had to answer four phone calls with confused people asking if I was asking them to do something or if they were being scammed.

I am here on this forum because I am looking for a way to stop the emails that are pushed when someone uses Storyline. I am an IT Technician for our organization, but even I can't figure it out. I had to hang my head low and humbly ask my IT Director for help and as of now, he can't figure it out, either.

    -John

Can you tell me more about the level of activity in your network? Are there lots and lots of other users posting and commenting? Or are few people actively using it?

Are those emails that are being sent to other employees Digest emails? I could imagine a scenario in a low-usage network where your test post got picked up as it might be one of the few new posts.

KevinCrossmanyeah, few used it.  Similar to JohnParkman - people get emailed whether or not they asked for them.  I thought VE allowed end users to opt-in to emails but the auto-digest seems to ensure people get emailed within a week.

  • Doesn't seem likely that it would pick up this particular post. Tell us why you are asking about this and I can help sort through what may happen.

Sorry, I didn't see your reply! IIRC people eventually were notified about storyline posts - even if you don't follow the individual.

AllisonMichelsI'm just trying to get a better understanding of how the "VE recommendations engine" works for storylines.

For community posts, the email newsletter will automatically share those to all community members eventually via the auto-digest emails.   I was wondering if the same applied to Storylines or if they would need manual intervention to get noticed.
