Remove "Start backup" from File Explorer

Latest Windows 11 update shows this very annoying button, and can't find a way to remove it (I don't want to use this backup feature):

Any PS script to disable this?

Hope MS is working on solution for this, even tho it looks like OneDrive upsell, another ad in OS...

This is stupid, useless, and replaces the useful ability to see the file path.

rcharbon had posted (I got an email but can't find the post) that a Reddit thread said you could "Go to Explorer Settings (Folder Options)>View tab>Uncheck Show sync provider notifications and that big button in the address bar will go away."

While follow-ups to that reddit indicated it didn't work for them, it did work for me, but only after a restart. Applying the change makes the window visibly redraw, but still with the danged button, which made me originally think it failed until rcharbon's post got me to try again.

I have Microsoft 365 and the OneDrive is included in it. Except I don't link my computer to it to automatically back everything up to the cloud. I turned that off. I'm still getting that annoying reminder.  I'm also not logged in.  Ever since I got Windows 11 it's been wanting to link everything to OneDrive.

Exactly what I'm experiencing. It's simply annoying.

Yes, I recently got a new computer with Windows 11, and the unwanted and hard-to-remove OneDrive integration (infestation?) has been extremely annoying. It hurts the user experience, and betrays trust -- it was uploading my documents and pictures in the beginning without my even giving it permission to do so!

This hard-sell by Microsoft is only tempting me to remove OneDrive altogether, since there are alternatives that are not nearly so parasitic-feeling, intrusive, and against the clear will of the user who time and again has to tell it to stop. Even removing it does not always fix all problems -- for instance if it has moved user folders (terrible design).

This feels like malware. What part of "No" does OneDrive not understand? No means no. Bothering users to the hilt is going not win you more sales.

That is really annoying. I can't understand Microsoft these days. They became highly aggressive.

Here's a naive question: Why does Microsoft want our data so badly?

MS knows you have bunch of GB in those folders, so wants to sell you additional Onedrive subscription, thats very obvious. But the problem is that I have stuff there I don't want to sync, and it just forces you to sync all you Users folders. And what if you have several machines, and you sync your Desktop folder, all computers will have the same Desktop files? I definitely don't want that!

hhudo: I suspect it is worse than that. My suspicion is that they want as much of everyone's info as possible in the Cloud and easily accessible for their version of AI to mine.

    Are you using Windows Insider?
Open start and search for feedback and open the Feedback Hub app and share your concern.

Reza_Ameri on some machines i have insider build, on some don't. They all got this annoying button. Already shared on Feedback, but it can takes years until they get enough votes on this issue, or maybe decide to keep it there, but there has to be some toggle to turn it off.

Really tempted to just move storage to Google/Dropbox and uninstall Onedrive, noticed button isn't there if you don't have Onedrive or you're not logged in.

Are those devices using OneDrive or OneDrive for business?
Try turn off the OneDrive and disable it from startup and restart your PC and see if the problem persists?
