We are very excited to announce an Azure Communication Services AMA!
An AMA is a live text-based online event similar to a “YamJam” on Yammer or an “Ask Me Anything” on Reddit. This AMA gives you the opportunity to connect with Microsoft product experts who will be on hand to answer your questions and listen to feedback.
Feel free to post your questions about Azure Communication Services anytime in the comments below beforehand, if it fits your schedule or time zone better, though questions will not be answered until the live hour.

- EricStarkerFormer EmployeeThank you for joining our AMA today! We appreciated all the great questions - we'll be sharing a summary of the questions and answers in this space soon. We'll be doing future AMAs on this and other topics so stay tuned.

- phazureCopper ContributorHi, question about Microsoft universal print. What’s on the roadmap ? How are the printer suppliers progressing ? Comments on google dropping this service ?
- manoskow-msft
Microsoft
Hi phazure - This is not on topic for this AMA. If you have questions about Azure Communication Services we would be happy to help answer those!
- esmond365Copper ContributorIs there a comparison matrix or flow chart explaining where ACS fits in to the current MS messaging ecosystem e.g. Teams personal and corporate, Kaizala, webhooks for powerapps etc
- manoskow-msft
Microsoft
Hi esmond365!
Great question! It all depends on your use case 🙂 In general ACS is a platform offering (PaaS) and Teams is the full software/solution offering (SaaS).
If you want more customization, extensibility, and are not limited to only AAD identity, then ACS is a great option for you. If you just want to have a fully available solution ready to deploy and are using AAD, then Teams is the way to go.
As for leveraging other Microsoft offerings, we are investigating different ways we can plug into the larger Microsoft ecosystem to make a holistic experience for our customers. If you have feedback on other platforms to plug into (we are currently looking into low code platforms for example 🙂 ), we would love to hear your use cases/scenarios.
In general, ACS can be used in conjunction with most other Microsoft and Azure services since we are a set of SDKs/APIs that allow you to customize your product. You just might have to stitch a few things together on your side 😉
Does that answer your question?- esmond365Copper ContributorI encourage to document those known and proposed workflows to help contextualize the service as a utility layer for developers and practitioners. I like the low-code next step. I work in healthcare and am obviously biased to use-cases. To the HIPAA context raised by @ronnormon, I think theres solid value in a patient facing capacity for non-sensitive comms like SMS reminders etc.
- Christopher PolanishBrass ContributorIs there a publicly available roadmap for ACS somewhere?
- manoskow-msft
Microsoft
Hi Christopher Polanish! We have a public roadmap available here: Communication/roadmap.md at master · Azure/Communication (github.com)
We will also post updates to Azure updates and our blog!

- Christopher PolanishBrass ContributorIs it possible to have two-way communication via SMS? Our application is two-fold: 1) We'd like to create a bot that our clients can text for support 2) As an evolution to the above, we'd like to offer the ability to connect the client to an engineer in Teams who could then message from Teams > SMS and vice-versa.
- Pranita_Kulkarni
Microsoft
Yes, ACS supports 2 way communication. Please see our Quickstart here - Send and SMS and Receive a message.
- Christopher PolanishBrass ContributorThanks for this. I think I've read through these, however what I was not finding is a way to tie an inbound SMS to an existing conversation. So for example, Someone sends a message into ACS, we have a bot reply, and then we want to have the client be able to respond to the bots reply and continue the conversation back and forth.

Will ACS "sdk" support HoloLens (Unity / MRTK) , i.e. use this SDK in a custom hololens app to develop features such as making calls, joining a meeting or sharing "screen" ?
- manoskow-msft
Microsoft
hi @François-Xavier JOOS, Unity should work if you are targeting UWP. However, we don't have Unity support outside of UWP.
- GinaKomoroskeCopper ContributorHi, curious to know how some notification emails from Azure go to an individual person? We have service health alerts set up to a distribution list and we get those just fine. But some emails are sent to individual user accounts, and it seems some people get them and others do not. Today's, for example, a coworker with the same Azure AD roles I have and subscription owner access I have, received an "Action required: Update apps using Azure AD B2C to new redirect b2clogin.com" email and I did not. What is determining the emails that go to individual user accounts versus the distribution list we set up under service health notifications?
- manoskow-msft
Microsoft
Hi gina, this isn't on topic for this AMA and we don't have any experts in Service Health or Azure AD roles on right now. I'd try posting in the AAD tech community (https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/t5/azure-active-directory-identity/bd-p/Azure-Active-Directory)?

Is ACS HIPAA compliant? And how can I provide evidence of that to our stakeholders to show that our solutions that are built on top of ACS are HIPAA compliant? (My main interest here is in SMS)
- Pranita_Kulkarni
Microsoft
Yes, ACS is HIPAA compliant. Here's the reference link - Microsoft Azure Compliance Offerings
