Event details

We are excited to welcome you to the Azure Communication Services and Microsoft Teams AMA. We'll talk about the possibilities of connecting Teams with the communication capabilities in Azure and the cool stuff we can build with it. We are looking forward to hearing your ideas, concerns or top of mind and answer any questions you might have about Azure Communication Services interoperability into Microsoft Teams.

The AMA will take place on Wednesday, March 8 from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. PT in the comment section below. This AMA is text only – meaning there will not be any video nor audio.

An AMA is a live online event similar to an “Ask Me Anything” on Reddit. This AMA gives you the opportunity to connect with members of Microsoft trainers and the product engineering team who will be on hand to answer your questions and listen to feedback.

Feel free to post your questions anytime in the comments below beforehand, if it fits your schedule or time zone better, though questions will not be answered until the live hour.

  • Hey, At this point in Teams meeting we can add the ACS user as a gues by the interop scenario. How can we achieve the same interop scenario but instead of adding ACS user to teams, we should be able to add Teams user to ACS.

Thanks for your question. Yes, you can add a Teams user in a call by adding a Teams phone number. The Teams user can join via PSTN, but can't currently join via Voice-over-IP (VoIP) or webRTC. Is this approach sufficient for your scenario?

Can you comment on how or whether it can be accessed using government CAC (smartcard) for authintication, or possibly an alternative, yubikey? Any documents with instructions for setting those up?

Can you provide more details what would you like to access with government CAC? Which capability or scenario would you like to use in your scenario?

Hello, Could you please briefly explain how does ACS compare to Twilio? We are looking to build an IVR system and were wondering whether ACS provides things like text-to-voice, etc.

Thank you for your interest in Azure Communication Services. We don't usually compare our service to competitors but what I can say is that Azure Communication Services provides Call Automation SDK, that allows developers to process calls on server side. Additionally, ACS calling SDK allows developers to render video streams, send and receive audio. With Raw media access, currently available on Azure Communication Services calling SDK you can connect to Cognitive Services and get text-to-voice capabilities. Are there any other specific functionalities you would like to understand?

Yes, so the text-to-speech functionality that I'm looking for is text generated using custom code and then spoken back to the caller i.e. like automated Customer Service functionality when someone calls a bank. The system provides options such as Press 1 for this, Press 2 for that, etc. Then accepts the user input and responds appropriately. Is that available in ACS?

Also, can we port existing Phone Numbers from Twilio to ACS?
  • Welcome to the Azure Communication Services and Microsoft Teams Ask Microsoft Anything!

This live hour gives you the opportunity to ask questions and provide feedback directly to the Azure Communication Services team.

Please post any questions in a separate, new comment thread. To start introduce yourself below and tell us where you're logging in from!
