They said Reset, that's not quite the same as a reimage. You can even keep user data. It's still a big deal, and maybe not a viable solution, but it's not as heavy as a reimage.

You would still need to reinstall all the apps and honestly my OSD with a full variable based software install is a lot faster than resetting a pc and waiting for app install from Intune, especially on machines with large applications such as Autodesk and Creative Cloud.
- JochenB007Oct 24, 2022Brass ContributorWhat about a hybrid way? 🙂 Moving to the cloud with all apps and with all new PCs, whether they are coming this year or next year or maybe 2024...and leaving the "old" clients running with SCCM and SUP and CMG and whatever. Cloud/Tenant attach them, and go cloud only with new ones. It will take a few months or even years, but not starting the journey today because you have to reset them...thats also no way, isn't it?
- CarywellsOct 24, 2022Copper ContributorI have done this with our laptop fleet. I have no problem with cloud only, I am actually quite excited to be moving my entire division to the cloud. My concerns were with them stating that we should all move to cloud only without the tools that we have today or replacements to fill our environments needs. "there is almost always short-term pain to achieve long-term and overall gains and success", to quote from a Microsoft person below, is fine but short term pain with no plan in the near future to gain back the tools we need to do our jobs is foolish.

Microsoft
We don't expect customers to completely change all existing devices overnight with respect to their identity and join state for sure. We generally expect this to line up with their device attrition and turnover process. As for device management, don't conflate moving to AADJ with how the devices are managed and whether Intune, ConfigMgr, or cloud-attach is used. Transitioning between these is seamless and does not require any type of join state change on the device.
- MervWhiteOct 24, 2022Brass ContributorThese are concerns of mine as well. Running a large school district with multiple labs of Autodesk and Adobe CC software.

Microsoft
There are always mitigating factors and complexities, however, there is almost always short-term pain to achieve long-term and overall gains and success. Achieving cloud-native Windows endpoints where full portability and device independence are major values that enable a hybrid work environment is worth the short-term investment. What IT has been doing for 20+ years just isn't the best way to accommodate the hybrid workforce and this will take a paradigm and tooling shift. Just because that's the way you've always done it doesn't mean it should be the way going forward and doesn't mean you should discount change.- CarywellsOct 24, 2022Copper ContributorWhile change is good and I agree with doing everything as we have will stale growth, there is some value in not doing change for changes sake. If the outcome does not add to your life then I don't see the benefit and for Microsoft to sit and discount the tools we use now and ask us to move to an environment that does not meet all needs is, like I said earlier, negligent on their behalf. People listen that may not have the expertise in these fields and while it would be nice to have them ask the people in the know always about change they hear about, that does not always happen. Microsoft should be letting people know about the changes and new ways to accomplish goals while still communicating that this may not be the only way to do things and this may not work for all environments yet.
