- NigelIron ContributorWill this be available for AVD users? We have many use cases for this across clients, but they are all AVD.
- Rinku_Stephen
Microsoft
Hi Nigel - Unfortunately not available for AVD right now. It is available only for Win365 but thank you for your feedback. We will definitely include this in our future planning.
- danwaltersOccasional ReaderWill there be a way to connect a user to a nonwindows365 cloud computer, for instance, if we had a VM in Azure with more cores/ hdd space/speed than the current offerings for windows 365 computers?
- Rinku_Stephen
Microsoft
Hi Dan - The Boot to Cloud is buit with public APIs that support non Win365 Cloud PC but then other Cloud PC providers need to integrate with Windows as well. Would be great if you could request VM in Azure to integrate ASAP 😄- danwaltersOccasional ReaderHow would one make this request if a VM already exists in azure?
- Carlos_CapellanBrass ContributorCongrats on the (long awaited) launch of the preview! What are the plans for a dedicated, non-shared Boot to Cloud machine? The current preview requires password login or Yubikey, will you support passwordless using Authenticator or WHfB?
- Rinku_Stephen
Microsoft
Hi Carlos - Our next priority is to build for users who need dedicated Boot to Cloud PC. We plan to support password-less auth for dedicated mode users as well.
- JS-BTSBrass ContributorA couple of questions from me: - If a user's session is disconnected, and then they re-connect, is the session state resumed? EG, if files are open, they'll be re-opened upon re-connect? - I've noticed in the guide we followed before, it recommended the Dev-Channel for Insider Builds, but you mentioned the Beta. Is there a reason for this?
- Rinku_Stephen
Microsoft
If a user
- Locks the local Windows PC, then the user is disconnected from cloud PC but the app states on the Cloud are maintained and the user session is resumed when the user signs in
- Signs out from the local Windows PC, then the user is signed out from the cloud PC as well.. This means that the Cloud PC is disconnected and the apps are all closed. It will be a new session when the user logs in again.
I hope I have answered your query. Feel free to ask more 🙂
- JS-BTSBrass ContributorMakes sense that Logging out causes everything to be closed (as if it were shut down), but a disconnection does not close the state and allows it to be resumed. Thank you, your explanation is very helpful.
- Christiaan_Brinkhoff
Microsoft
Yes, the session state will be resumed. Everything you had open in the Cloud PC remains to be open. So no productivity liss. Both channels work. We recommend Beta for the most stable release. When GA, we will be available in the production build.
- JS-BTSBrass ContributorPerfect - Thank you very much!
- Are there session timeouts that will force the user to disconnect from the Cloud PC and mean the user has to re-"boot" to Cloud-PC?
- Christiaan_Brinkhoff
Microsoft
Just a reconnect.
- alenatCopper ContributorI guess I am out of luck attending these "Windows Events": Video unavailable This video is restricted. Please check the Google Workspace administrator and/or the network administrator restrictions.

We're looking into this. We have hundreds of people joining so checking what is different here.- alenatCopper Contributorthis is the second time with Windows Events platform. The first time they end up with giving a direct youtube link to those who affected. Surprisingly the platform using Google Workspace... Who knew.
- danwaltersOccasional ReaderIs windows 365 using RDP for this connection?
- Christiaan_Brinkhoff
Microsoft
Yes, with UDP - RDP Shortpath
- Does Windows 365 Boot take advantage of UDP shortpath on public networks?
- Christiaan_Brinkhoff
Microsoft
Yes it does! We support both TCP and UDP (Shortpath).
- Are the Windows 365 boot components available in a downloadable KB to install without enrolling into Insider program?
- danwaltersOccasional ReaderWill there be a build that is slim-lined for just the boot process? and not have a full windows 11 build?
- Christiaan_Brinkhoff
Microsoft
Windows 11 will run lighter when you use Windows 365 Boot as there's no overhead of applications. We're exploring other improvements as well.- danwaltersOccasional ReaderI'm referring to something like Windows Thin PC or the windows embedded line
