AzureFunBytes is a weekly opportunity to learn more about the fundamentals and foundations that make up Azure. It’s a chance for me to understand more about what people across the Azure organization do and how they do it. Every week we get together at 11 AM Pacific on Microsoft LearnTV and learn more about Azure. AzureFunBytes – Getting started with Bicep have been playing with with Azure Bicep, a new Microsoft approach to deploying Azure resources using Infrastructure as Code. Today I’d like to show you how to create a basic template and deploy it to Azure. Then I will look at how quickstart templates are converted in the Bicep Playground. We’ll look at the Bicep CLI install, the VS Code plug-in, and of course Azure CLI. Bicep is a Domain Specific Language (DSL) for creating your Azure resources. While there are various methods for writing infrastructure as code (IaC), such as Ruby, etc. Bicep aims to reduce complexity by introducing a cleaner syntax for you to reuse your code more often. Bicep is a transparent abstraction of ARM templates, which differs from using another general-purpose programming language. Just like ARM templates, Bicep relies on the JSON syntax to compile and deploy your desired infrastructure. What is Bicep (Preview)? AzureFunBytes is a weekly opportunity to learn more about the fundamentals and foundations that make up Azure. It's a chance for me to understand more about what people across the Azure organization do and how they do it. Every week we get together at 11 AM Pacific on Microsoft LearnTV and learn more about Azure. When: May 6, 2021 11 AM Pacific / 2 PM Eastern Where: Microsoft LearnTV This week I bring you the great and prolific Senior Cloud Advocate Thomas Maurer. We dive into the world of hybrid cloud! Not every application is born in the cloud, but they can certainly interact with it. A hybrid cloud is a type of cloud computing that combines on-premises infrastructure—or a private cloud—with a public cloud. Hybrid clouds allow data and apps to move between the two environments. Companies across the planet are making a decision to integrate their on-prem solutions with cloud services such as Azure. Rather than have the datacenter be the end of where a solution lives, companies can integrate their network, configure VPNs, and use the various services with Azure to help extend their infrastructure. By using Hybrid Azure cloud you're enabling your apps to have access to one of the largest global networks. Maybe you need a faster connection to exist between your on-prem solution and Azure? ExpressRoute ExpressRoute lets you extend your on-premises networks into the Microsoft cloud over a private connection with the help of a connectivity provider. With ExpressRoute, you can establish connections to Microsoft cloud services, such as Microsoft Azure and Microsoft 365. Microsoft uses BGP, an industry standard dynamic routing protocol, to exchange routes between your on-premises network, your instances in Azure, and Microsoft public addresses. We establish multiple BGP sessions with your network for different traffic profiles. More details can be found in the ExpressRoute circuit and routing domains article. Our Agenda includes: Introduction Customer challenges with Cloud and Hybrid Customers need to manage 100-1000s of apps modern and traditional. Customers have a diverse infrastructure (different hardware and locations) Customers have multi-cloud environments. Data can’t go to the cloud - Data sovereignty Networking requirements etc Azure offers lots of hybrid solutions Overview (Azure Arc, Azure Stack family, IoT) Azure Arc Intro to Arc Control plane to manage infra (Linux, Windows Servers, Kubernetes clusters) INCLUDING DEMOS Inventory / Tagging Azure Policy Onboard a server Use Azure Management services Quick mentioned and demo K8s with GitOps Use Azure Data services outside of Azure We've got so much to cover, so be sure to join me and Thomas on or your chance to learn about bridging the gap between the datacenter and the cloud.
