5 TopicsFeature Request: Add an optional user-defined description field to bookmarks
Hello! I'm constantly re-naming and re-organizing my bookmarks (favorites) so that they make the most sense to my future self when I have to circle back to some resource I might not have even thought about in quite some time. But it can be difficult to put enough information in the 'Name' field to remind me if it's really the location I want to be opening. One feature that I think would be really beneficial is to add an additional 'Description' field that can be defined when creating/editing a bookmark (favorite). If this field is populated with some text, then it should be displayed in the bookmark's tooltip when hovering over it. I see no issue having this field be character limited to some number of characters, as long as it can contain a couple of sentences. I think this would be a really neat feature that would enable users to have much simpler 'file structures' for their bookmarks (favorites), while also making their bookmarks more reliable over time. Sometimes users will make multiple links to various sub-pages that all exist within the same website. But with this extra information available, one could more easily just link to the higher-level URL of a website; because the bookmark (favorite) description could contain just enough info to help them find what they need from the one access point. Often, websites re-organize their pages in ways that could break old bookmarks, but higher-level URLs of a website change much less frequently. So this feature wouldn't just make navigating your bookmarks easier; in practice, it would also allow the user to make useful bookmarks that would be more reliable over time. Please let me know what you think! Cheers, -Dan656Views1like0CommentsTurn the Tiles on the Edge NTP (New Tab Page) into Live Tiles
on the NTP (new tab page), most visited websites can be shown, with a small icon which is basically that website's favicon and the website/web page title. My Suggestion is to Turn those Tiles into Live Tiles. so instead of showing a static Icon and title, show the contents of that web page. the contents can be divided into 4 or 5 slides that are the size of the whole Tile and change every 3-4 seconds automatically like a slide show. they can be very useful and serve as a quick sneak peak or preview into those most visited websites, so user can look at them and check for new content. these previews can be loaded when Edge is launched and reloaded when the user refreshes the new tab page. there needs to be a minimum period between each manual reload of these contents to prevent sending spam-looking requests to those websites (when a user decides to spam the refresh button on NTP). the minimum period can be set to something like 20 seconds and not less. this will be a great addition to the new Edge browser. dynamically generated contents are always better than static content.1.3KViews3likes0Comments[Suggestion] Only clear 3rd party cookies at browser exit
Blocking 3rd party cookies has so much merits in terms of security but it also has a flaw, some websites might not work. in Edge insider settings page it says: "Block third-party cookies When on, sites can’t use your browsing activity across different sites to personalize ads. Some sites may not work properly." I have it turned on regardless because for example when I go to YouTube.com, I only want youtube.com to save cookies in my browser, not facebook.com or google.com 3rd party cookies are mostly used for tracking your online activities. so to tackle the issue that comes with blocking 3rd party cookies, which is some websites might not work properly, I Suggest to add this new feature to the Edge insider browser: Delete Only 3rd party cookies at exit so with this method, you allow the website to set their 3rd party cookies, thinking they can track user's activity all over the web, but as soon as the browser is closed, all those 3rd party cookies will be deleted and only the 1st party cookies (main cookies) stay in the device, retaining user's login. I haven't seen it in any other browser. I really hope developers see this and add it to the Edge. will be a great addition to the Tracking Prevention system, make it robust. Currently the media Auto-play blocking options (Allow, Limit, Block) only apply to Videos. but what if we want the video to be auto-played, but its audio be muted by default? so I think these options needed to be added to that settings page which also has lots of vacant space left to be filled with useful options. edge://settings/content/mediaAutoplay Block Audio Block Video Block Audio and Video (should also block Auto-Buffering/preloading of media)2.7KViews5likes6Comments
