25 TopicsAuto-append trailing * wildcard to search for substrings in modern sharepoint
I have a modern communication site and if I search a list for 'can', it will not return Canada, or Canadian in my results. but if I search for can*, both items will be returned. I believe it is possible to program classic search to append this wildcard automatically, so I don't need to type the * every time. But does anyone know how I can achieve this with modern search? And please no one reply with, "this isn't possible". It seems to me, that if this isn't possible, why hasn't Microsoft fixed this yet? I've never seen another intranet search engine work this way. Or am I missing a simple solution to this? Any help would be greatly appreciated. It is not natural for end users to have to remember to type a * at the end of their search string, which consequently returns poor results for their searches..2.4KViews0likes5CommentsModern Events Categories
I have a page where I want to add events that users can see and join. In my company, these events have two categories and I want users to filter only by these two categories (by Category, I mean the option available when adding new event as you can see in this link). However, SharePoint provides a bunch of default categories (e.g. Gift, Anniversary, Work hours, etc.) that the user can select from and which I do not want (see below). Is there any way to remove them and keep only my desired categories? Please note that I found a thread that seems possibly to address the same problem (see here). However, the suggestions given require changing lists through Page Properties, an option which I don't seem to have in the first place (see below)! Please help 🙏 Thanks BeshrSolved16KViews0likes7CommentsCentering Pages in Modern Experience
Hello all, I'm having some trouble searching for a way to center a master page or a modern experience page in SharePoint. There is so much space on the right and I'd like to have it centered rather than have everything all to the left. PS. I removed the current nav on the left (which is what I prefer) Anyone know how I can make everything on my site centered? Thanks!52KViews2likes10CommentsSharePoint Document Details Path with or without copy path button.
I noticed between SharePoint 2019 and SharePoint Online the Copy Path button ( ) only appears in SharePoint online. Is there a way to make this copy path button appear in the on prem sites too? Discovered this a few minutes ago. Created a new list. Added some columns via the +Add Column header. Renamed the Title column to "Project" So far so good. Closed the window and on to other projects. Came back to the page, the added columns were not showing in the view (I suppose I have to build a view with the new columns?) Created a new item in the list, in the modern interface. The side panel popped out and listed all my available fields, yet my renamed "Title" field was listed as "Title" still and not "Project" like I would expect.11KViews1like10CommentsCan't add Heading (without link) to left Nav in modern Team site anymore?
I am no longer able to select whether I want to add a header or a hyper link to my left navigation in a modern team site? I can only add hyperlinks. Has this changed, or do I need to make an adjustment in site settings?2.6KViews0likes7CommentsHighlighted Content Webpart filtering as "or" instead of "and" with multiple metadata filters
Hi All, I am trying to set up a Highlighted content webpart so that I can pull through specific documentation into a communication site view for end users to access. The idea behind this is that our training team has all the training documents in their document library, each document is tagged with "Finance, Compliance, IT" etc. What we want to do is surface onto a "Finance Page" all of the "Finance Training" documents in one webpart, and in another, all of the "Finance Policy" documents. So we have set up as follows: Training document library contains all training docs Each document is tagged with their function (e.g. finance) Each document is tagged with "Training Document" Compliance document library contains all policy docs Each document is tagged with their function (e.g. finance) Each document is tagged with "Policy Document" Now I have set up crawled and managed properties etc. So I can display in the Highlighted Content webpart all documents tagged with "Finance" I can also display all documents tagged with "Training Document" What I want to do now is bring through all documents that are tagged "Finance" AND "Training Document". However the Highlighted Content Webpart, when I put these two filters in, bring through any documents that are tagged with "Finance" and any documents that are tagged with "Training Document" so I am bringing through all the Finance Policy Documents and the IT Training Documents. Am I doing something wrong, is this the intended behaviour? Will we be able to select an "and/or" filter soon? Seems crazy that this isn't working for managed metadata (because it works as expected when you use the "Title contains" filter!) Thanks for any help! Hi everyone, I am seeing some odd behaviour with modern document libraries when you try to search for content stored in folders. Lets say you have the following structure in a document library: Folder named "James" File named "P45" File named "P11D" Folder named "Gary" File named "P45" File named "P11D" Modern Experience: If you do a search in the "Search" box in the top-left corner for the word James then you will see the James folder returned. If you then click into the folder you don't see any documents shown such as the P45 or P11D docs, with a message saying "No items match your query". Classic Experience: If you switch to classic experience and do a search for James in the "Find a File" box, you will see the James folder returned. When you click into the folder you will then see the two files, P45 and P11D. The modern search is appears to be doing a search on items that contain the phrase "James" in the filename or in the document, where as the classic experience is doing more of a filter on the current items being displayed and then allowing you to see the child items in that folder. If you search in a modern experience, you can then see the child documents if you remember to clear your search query from the search box, or if you remember to not press the Enter key at the end of typing your search query and use either the mouse or keyboard to select the folder from the auto-suggestions. If you do choose a folder from the auto-suggestions then this opens in a new tab taking you away from where you were originally working. This has been reported by users and clients as a significant pain in the user experience when searching for content and is causing push back on adoption of SharePoint. Have you guys seen this before? I've got a SharePoint Modern site, and I want to create a SharePoint List with Rating System turned on. When I do this, forms (edit / new / view) switch to the Classic Experience. How do I switch it back to Modern Experience? PowerApps is currently disabled at my organisation. Updated for Clarity: The rest of my forms are fine on other lists. This only happens if I swithch "Rating System" on. It switches to SharePoint Classic. But only the form. And "Form Dialogue" is selected as yes in advanced settings. It still only opens Edit / View / New forms in the Classic Experience instead of opening a Form Dialogue box. Thank you!5.5KViews0likes6CommentsEvents web part not populating Teams calendar events (Modern Sharepoint)
We have a Teams calendar set up and two related modern Sharepoint site pages where we would like to use the Events web part. Please see the attached screenshots. Screenshot 1: Test events have been added to the Teams calendar for this group, "B" (redacted for privacy) Screenshots 2 and 3: In the web part on both site pages, the settings are set up as: Source - "Select sites" Frequent sites - selected "B" (redacted for privacy) Date Range - "All Upcoming Events" As you can see, the events are for the current week, hosted on the team, and with web part settings that seem straightforward. We need this working asap this week. Please help!1.6KViews0likes3Comments
