Improving employee engagement and productivity continue to be top priorities within winning organizations. Oftentimes though, organizations view these initiatives in silos. Employee sentiment surveys assess engagement levels across the company while workplace analytics help leaders understand collaboration and organizational patterns more broadly. The way people work (e.g. time spent in meetings, after-hour work, etc.) impacts how people feel (e.g. feelings towards leadership and work-life balance) and vice-versa. What if we could look at these data sets together instead of in isolation?

Our new integration between Viva Glint and Viva Insights brings employee engagement data and behavioral metrics together to give organizations a holistic view of the employee experience. Now, HR, leaders and HR analysts can see how organizational patterns relate to employee sentiment for deeper insights on engagement and productivity. This integration is available now in both Viva Glint and Viva Insights.

A holistic view into the employee experience

Combining Viva Glint engagement data with Viva Insights behavioral metrics provides a deeper understanding and a more complete, nuanced picture of the employee’s experience. Use this combined view to:

  • Confirm hypotheses about the employee experience - Investigate hypotheses you may have about the employee experience by looking at both sentiment and action metrics. Explore whether what you are hearing in the sentiment data aligns with what you are seeing in the work patterns data, or not, and what those findings tell you about the employee experience.
  • Develop actions to improve the employee experience - Make changing the employee experience feel more tangible by identifying work patterns and trends across sentiment. When you see differences in sentiment aligning with differences in work patterns, you can determine what actions may potentially impact the employee experience you hope to improve.
  • Get clarity with combined data - Add more context to the employee experience by considering differences in observed work patterns. You may find that sentiment and work patterns’ metrics alone provide only one aspect of the story. Looking at both together can help to provide more clarity on the lived experience of employees.
  • Anticipate needs through established relationships - Over time, as you understand the relationships between workplace patterns and employee sentiment, leverage ongoing measurement of pattern data to anticipate needs before your next survey deployment. Understanding potential indicators of a change in experience allows you to better anticipate employee needs and deploy early interventions.

Preview customers have used the integration to better understand how work patterns relate to engagement across teams, geographies and for specific scenarios like return to work initiatives.

For HR and leaders: How the integration works in Viva Glint

Viva Glint is designed for HR and leaders to understand the drivers of engagement based on your employee listening strategy. After an engagement survey, HR and leaders use Viva Glint to understand results, explore feedback and develop an action plan based on recommendations from the platform.

The integration of behavioral metrics from Insights now allows HR and leaders to see how different workplace patterns may impact feelings of engagement to develop more impactful improvement opportunities.

From the Viva Glint dashboard, users can see how different behavioral metrics relate to overall engagement. This view gives you a quick snapshot into how workplace patterns, for example manager 1:1 time in the screenshot below, impacts engagement scores. You can toggle the Viva Insights metrics to see the impact of other behavioral metrics. We recommend viewing these behavioral metrics based on the hypotheses or initiatives you have impacting the employee experience.

The Viva Glint Heatmap report offers a more detailed view of how different behavioral metrics impact the specific drivers of engagement. In the example below, you can see how different levels of manager 1:1 time relate to sentiment around feelings of belonging, career growth and more. Here we’re highlighting how there is a sweet spot of 15-60 minutes of manager 1:1 time towards feelings of empowerment.

Viva Glint also captures employee feedback from the comments left in surveys. You can now filter comments by behavioral metrics to see what people are saying in relation to specific workplace patterns. In the example below we’re looking at the key themes from employees with less than 15 minutes of manager 1:1 time a week. Viewing the comments associated with your analysis gives you more context and oftentimes suggestions, to create better solutions.

For analysts: How the integration works in Viva Insights

Viva Insights helps HR analysts and their leadership teams understand and improve working patterns across the organization based on collaboration data from Microsoft 365. The Analyst Workbench within Viva Insights is a powerful tool to build custom queries, use pre-built templates and create reports for analysis and knowledge sharing.

Analysts can use the new Glint and Organizational Insights report in Viva Insights to create PowerBI reports that combine engagement scores from Glint surveys with the behavioral metrics captured in Viva Insights.

Analysts use this report to:

  • Create combined reports at any time, regardless of when an engagement survey was conducted.
  • View changes to workplace patterns before and after a survey
  • See correlations between sentiment and behaviors
  • Provide access to specific sets of data for different users via Partitions

Within the Viva Insights Analyst Workbench, analysts can find a new Glint and Organizational Insights report. Analysts can use the Exploration page to discover how specific Viva Glint survey questions interact with behavioral metrics from Viva Insights. Analysts can also filter these views further by organizational attributes like tenure, role, team, geography and other attributes from your data files.  Once you’ve gotten the right view, analysts can view the following:

  • See the strength of relationship between the Viva Glint survey question and behavioral metric
  • View changes to behavioral metric before and after a Glint survey
  • See a breakdown of metrics by favorability

In the example below you can see how the analyst has created a report to see how collaboration sentiment relates to internal network size.
