New to Purview and set up/first steps

If you were a business or organisation that was new to Purview what advice would you give them to turn on or set up as their first steps with the product?

Hi everyone, there are a lot of places to start with Purview and the new interface makes it even easier to know which steps to take first. But I recently found out that Microsoft's FastTrack team has prepared extensive quides to M365 including Purview. These guides can be found in the M365 Administration Centre and can be found here: https://admin.microsoft.com/?Q=ADG#/setupguidance. The Purview guides are under the Compliance Score section. Really worth a good read.

    Hope this helps!

  • The most critical step to successfully implement Purview is to involve the business and its information owners (RnD, Managment, HR, Legal etc). They should play a key role in defining which data is critical and needs to be detected, as well as determining how this data should be handled. This involvement is essential for enabling the use of DLP and retention policies. Additionally, it’s important to pilot the label design to ensure that information owners feel engaged as main stakeholders in the data security journey.

I have found implementing Purview to be incredibly difficult, specifically from Fabric data sources.  Documentation is inadequate, and essential data is not ingested without creating custom Semantic Models for each table (there are many).  Any help you can give is appreciated.

    Hello,

I am in a similar boat, but after reading through Microsoft Learn and few videos on youtubes, I have followed the below steps

    1. Created the 'Senstivity labels' and published them to pilot users
    2. Created 'Auto labeling policies' for each of the labels, with your respective SIT & Trainable classifiers
    3. Created DLP policies respectively.
