Price increase D365, impact on Base/Attach model?
Hi all, Microsoft announced a general price increase of D365 licenses, with a increase of 10-15% for certain suites. See following blog: New pricing for Microsoft Dynamics 365 effective October 2...
Update on the licensing guide shows that there's no impact on the Base/Attach model. There's now an exception made on the model, were D365 BC Premium is still eligible as a Base license for the more expensive D365 Sales/Service Enterprise licenses.
Which is fine, but also really confusing for customers when they're new to D365 licenses. Not really ideal when D365 licensing is already complex for the average customer, that even basic rules are getting exceptions.

Do the price increases change the eligibility of the base and attach options?
Currently the base license must be the most expensive as a full license.
As of now, before October increase: D365 Business Central Premium = $100, Sales Enterprise = $95.
Therefore, D365 Business Central Premium must be the base to attach a Sales Enterprise.
From 1st October. D365 Business Central Premium is still $100. But Sales Enterprise is now $105.
So, does this mean D365 Business Central Premium will not be an eligible base, as it is now less expensive than the Sales Enterprise?

I find the answers a bit confusing and contradicting of each other...
By reviewing the full price list (listed in the hyperlink), you'll find that the question was answered by showing that Sales Enterprise was increased as well.
The question was not about the price increase for Sales Enterprise, we know the price will increase. The question is about the Base/Attach eligibility;
- On the one hand you say 1: "base price must be higher than the attach, which is true.".
- But than you also say: 2 "Do the price increases change the eligibility of the base and attach options? No."
- and 3: "So, does this mean D365 Business Central Premium will not be an eligible base, as it is now less expensive than the Sales Enterprise? No. (see above)" (nothing of 'see above' explains this answer actually..).
Based on your first answer, your answers 2 and 3 are incorrect. As Sales Enterprise will now be more expensive than BC Premium, thus you will not be able to have this combi of base BC Premium ($100) + attach Sales Enterprise ($105) anymore, as it conflicts with the general rule: base price must be higher than the attach.
So the eligibility of base/attach will be affected, right?
If not, than the general rule: base price must be higher than the attach is actually incorrect. Which is fine, but makes the base/attach model all more confusing with such exceptions.
Follow up question on this would be; how would this affect existing customers that already utilize a base BC Premium + Sales Enterprise attach model?

Sorry to confuse you. Will it help if we start over? In an effort to clean up this thread, I've removed my replies to avoid further confusion.
Please CIL:

No. (see above)" (nothing of 'see above' explains this answer actually..). Attach pricing is priced less than the standalone price. The documentation is referring to standalone pricing. Therefore, are you saying that the Sales Ent. attach pricing is showing at a higher price than standalone BC premium?

That's not what I'm saying. What I am saying is that Sales Enterprise base ($105) license is now more expensive than BC Premium base ($100) license, thus the general rule: "base price must be higher than the attach" would imply that Sales Enterprise is not eligible as an attach option on BC Premium anymore. As Sales Enterprise is now more expansive as BC Premium, so it should now be the otherway around (Sales Enterprise base + BC Premium attach).
So the eligibility of base/attach will be affected, right? As of today, I have not been notified that eligibility has changed.
But this kinda answers my question, it won't change (yet).
Guess Microsoft didn't think this price increase thru. Either they keep Sales Enterprise as an eligible attach option to BC Premium and conflict with their own licensing rules (base needs to be the more expensive SKU). Or Microsoft doesn't know how to change the base/attach eligibility and how it would reflect on existing customers using this BC Premium base + Sales Enterprise attach model.

The attach rule has not changed as of to date. As mentioned, the attach license is priced lower than the base license.
However, if either of you're seeing that the Sales Ent attach license is priced higher than BC Prem base license, please submit a support ticket because the attach price for Sales Ent. w/ BC Prem as the base is priced far less than the base license effective May 2023:
