Desktop App for Planner?
There only appears to be a web version? Is there an app for a desktop on PC and/or Mac?
- Not currently,
There is a uservoice for it here
https://planner.uservoice.com/forums/330525-microsoft-planner-feedback-forum/suggestions/34471954-desktop-application
Would recommend you vote on it to push it up the agenda. Voting for the uservoice will also notify you if it has been picked up by Microsoft. I would also keep an eye out on this tech community for Planner AMA's where you can also raise this with the product team. There is a big appretite to push Planner forward so hopefully, we'll see something in the future
Hope that answers your question
Best, Chris

It would be great if there is a desktop app. With the extent of my planner, I find the teams planner too small to look through. Today however, the web app just will not open for me. So I am going into a meeting only able to use the teams tab. A desktop app would make my day-to-day so much smoother!

Currently, there’s only a web version of Planner, as Microsoft hasn’t released a standalone desktop app for PC or Mac. However, you can access Planner through your browser on any desktop, and you can also add it to Microsoft Teams for easy access. For a desktop-like experience, consider creating a shortcut from your browser to open Planner directly. Keep an eye on updates, as Microsoft may release a desktop version in the future.

At present, Planner doesn't have a standalone desktop app for either PC or Mac. It is mainly accessible as a web application through your browser. However, you can install the Planner web app as a Progressive Web App (PWA), which allows it to behave like a desktop application with its own icon and offline functionality. To do this, simply visit the Planner site, and choose the option to install it as an app from your browser's settings. This gives you a desktop-like experience without needing a separate app.

Currently, there isn't a dedicated desktop app for Planner for either PC or Mac. Planner is primarily available as a web version, accessible through your browser. However, you can use the Planner web app as a Progressive Web App (PWA) by installing it via your browser, which allows it to function like a desktop app with an icon and offline capabilities. Simply visit the Planner website, and look for the option to install it as an app in your browser settings. This will give you a similar experience to a desktop application.

So I had the same question and found a work around. I am currently using Mac and was able to add to create an app extension via Google Chrome. So what you do is open Planner in Google Chrome then click on the 3 horizontal dots on the upper right then scroll down to save and share and then click "Install Page As App" then from there Google Chrome saves it as an app that you can add on your home screen and you can open it through there as a stand alone app. Hope this helps. I would absolutely like to see a desktop app for this. The app for To Do is good, but a full on Planner App would be great! ColinFBMH
- t_staniszewskiCopper ContributorHas there ever been any updates on this? It would be nice to have a desktop application available.
Summary of the current situation (August 2023)
No Planner Desktop App is Available
Some wonder why Microsoft never developed a Planner desktop app. It’s probably due to a lack of engineering and support resources. But a good workaround exists because you can create a desktop app from the tasks.microsoft.com web site. For guest access to Planner in another tenant, a desktop shortcut might work. And there’s always the Tasks by Planner app in Teams. So maybe a Planner desktop app isn’t needed.

TonyRedmond One can go to the web version from tasks.microsoft.com but I can't see how one can get a desktop app? Workaround for me has been trhc and ... hove over apps then install and put on the taskbar.
- Click the [...] menu in Edge, Select Apps, Select Install this site as an app...
- KeriD19350Copper ContributorThanks for sharing Jenn_Marescalco! Just found Planner and am LOVING it and the fact I can now pin it to my taskbar!

Microsoft
ColinFBMH I realize this thread is almost 2 years old, but want to share a hack for this that was recently shared with me. While there isn't a desktop app, there is a way to get you to nearly the same experience:
1. Open the MS Planner app in the latest version of the Microsoft Edge browser (this is important)
2. Click the three horizontal dots to the far right of the URL bar
3. Hover over Apps
4. Click "install this site as an app"
This will give you the ability to pin it to your taskbar, creating an experience very close to a desktop app.
Hope this is useful!
- t_staniszewskiCopper ContributorI am very late to the party but this is INCREDIBLY useful. I'm working out of AWS Workspace Server 2019 and so apps like "Microsoft Todo" are not installable.
I've been looking everywhere for something similar - since I am kind of odd and dislike website apps as they are.
This is excellent and I could see this being incredibly useful in some form through our org. Thank you! - balsreeCopper ContributorThis is a useful hack. Thanks
- DMA-JoshMCopper ContributorThis is AWESOME!
