'Copy Link' for Folder/Files does not work in Teams
When you access a document library using the website/SharePoint tab and click on 'copy Link' the dialog opens up and has a spinning circle constantly, doesn't load.
Great
It works for me as well!!!
Strange thing is mine updated 8th of june but only today it workedYesterday I thought, how can this still be possible as I had this issue for a very long period of time
(opening the Team in SharePoint the copy link always did work as workaround)
but happy now 🙂
- ErikAtWorkCopper ContributorI have a similar story as many folks on here. Attempt to copy link to file in Teams. (I am remote, no VPN). Endlessly spinning circle in teams. Found threads months ago saying a fix was planned for April. About the beginning of May I notice the copy link in Teams worked again. Hooray! But, as of this week I can report it is not working again and the same undesired "endless spinning circle" behavior has returned. Womp womp. I have to "Open In Sharepoint" every time I want to send a link. This should be fixed by now. Basic, core, multiple-times-every-day functionality headache. I've been dealing with the for months and I'm completely fed up with it. Please escalate. Please resolve.
- NBelhamCopper ContributorSuch a shame that core functionality like this is so wish washy... some days it works for me and some day not! I suspect that there is some client invoked asynchronous event not reaching its target service or the target service being down and so the client request remains unanswered and we get the spinning wheel of nothing!
- TomekBBrass ContributorLast time it worked for me it was 28 Apr 2022 – I hope it will stay working for longer. Is stopped after a day or two and didn't return. It is hopeless. On my colleague's laptop (same system, same Tems version, same net, same IP, whatever) - it works ant it works fast.
- ErikAtWorkCopper ContributorThis is the thread I found months ago promising end of April resolution: https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/msteams/forum/all/copy-link-to-documents-in-teams-not-working/a212f113-8c02-40b3-9ff0-ed6dcfb6d6e5
- Srini2021Copper ContributorHello All. it started working for me today. The work laptop was turned on today morning after being off for the weekend. Last week before the shutdown, got a message that MS Office had updates. Probably the fix got pushed on the new restart.
So it is working for now. it is only the sharepoint link unlike sharepoint+teams link before. I think going forward it'll only be sharepoint link to share.
Will keep monitoring if this continues to work. - robin890Copper Contributor
This started when I got a new laptop a couple of months ago and only occurs when I'm working form home. the 'copy link' function works when I'm at work on campus.

solved clearing Microsoft Store’s Cache:
Windows + R to open the Run command window and type ‘wsreset.exe’worked for me
- MantaRayMysterioCopper ContributorThanks for posting this. tried it and does not fix my issue.
- Hersche1Copper ContributorIt started again today 5/5/2022 when you the installed desktop MS Teams application. Pernille-Eskebo should provide us a response why this happens from time to time,

Mine was not working a few months ago so I did the SharePoint work-around, then it started working after that, but now it's not working again. Please fix soon, it's a hassle to have to open up to SharePoint every time I need to grab a link.
- TomekBBrass ContributorToday's update to version 1.5.00.9163 (Win 11) – logged out, cleaned cache, reinstalled - still doesn't work.
- 8i5-5i1Copper Contributor2 years later and this issue still plagues Microsoft Teams... c'mon Microsoft!
- TomekBBrass ContributorIt is weird but when I upgraded from Win 10 to Win 11 earlier this year "Copy link: function started to work and worked untill I had to reinstall Teams. Afterwards it stopped. It seems for me that Teams built in Win 11 is OK, but the "external" app distributed via MS website is faulty... And it is impossible to reinstall Win 11 nativelty built-in Teams app...
- JohnHannanCopper ContributorHi. My user Zeus has this problem.
- Kelemvor333Steel ContributorJust noticed I'm having this problem today. I can't get the Link window to load when using the Teams client. I was able to go to Teams via Chrome and that let me generate the link without any issues. Tried closing and re-opening Teams client but that didn't help.
- Timothy NguiCopper ContributorMy Org has the same issue with copy link on files or folders from within Teams.
The copy link completely stopped working in late Oct 2021 with the infinity spinning wheel, all the way until end Dec 2021. Since 2022 started, we've noticed that the copy link function worked again, but this time no longer gave an option to copy the Teams-based URL link. Instead, all copy links for folder or files, all point ONLY to SharePoint links with no option to choose Teams-based URL links.
Did Microsoft do this JUST to fix their shortcoming which occured when you renamed a team/channel name but the backend SharePoint site name remained unchanged?- TomekBBrass ContributorUpdated to 1.5.00.8070 - copy link to files still doesn't work. Clean installation of 1.5.00.8070 didn't help. I start to think that it is no Teams app-related issue - just some bug in the registy / OneDrive or sth like that. Teams worka stable. But it is a huge inconvenience, the lack of this feature.
- --AndyCopper ContributorThis is so bitter... every couple of days I really need this, hope Microsoft will fix it now in April (this year)...
As a workaround, if you've onboarded a mobile device to MAM/MDM in your tenant and run the Teams app you could also copy the link there and then just send it via e-mail, works fine while the Desktop App fails.
