How to add new background images in Teams for personal use
How can I add additional background images in Teams?
I'm using both apps, one for personal use and one for work. I need to add new background effect to the teams for personal use but there isn't a button for that.
I also tried accessing the images via a folder `%APPDATA%\Microsoft\Teams\Backgrounds` but there are only images from the work version of Teams.
So how should I add new image to the personal one? Where are background images for that version stored?

The fact that MS has it programmed in Teams software to have to be IN a video call to edit your video background image is tragic, and should be shocking but honestly is just more MS-being-MS in the modern day. The steps in the first reply do NOT work in modern/latest update to Teams (as of 8/15/24), but the later reply with a link to external PDF _does_ work (despite still having to be IN a call to do it).
- OliviuVaisCopper ContributorHello,
The way to change the background image has changed in the new version.
U need to go into a meeting, u can do one by urself, and in the settings page that is displayed before connecting, or in the camera settings after u are in the meeting u go to choose a background image and click on “More video effects”. In the new window that is displayed u can choose “Add new” and voila, all good!!! - KalebRamirez2020Copper ContributorGreat share! Absolutely loved this post on adding new background images in Teams for personal use! The step-by-step guide was incredibly helpful. Personally, what caught my eye was the illustration resembling the serene scenes at https://depositphotos.com/vectors/hiking.html to the picture. The visual appeal enhances the overall Teams experience.

KalebRamirez2020 Hi Kaleb, I had the same problem with the web app. If you download the desktop app you get the options to upload an image. Hope that helps Anj_Anj

I'm not sure if this solution is correct. Seems it's not working for anyone who replied. But, I know it's possible in some version of teams. Cuz I had a meeting earlier today with a small, 5 year old tech company in the southwest corner of Virginia.
And they had what looked like a "brand wall" background, like you see at conferences and events like the Grammies or Oscar's. Behind each of their 3 participants. But they were obviously working remotely from home, separately. Not sitting in virtual meeting rooms or green screen theaters.
That's why I came to see how to do it. Love the feature. Awesome brand development tool. I'll update this reply once I determine how it's done.
Best Regards,
LW

To add new background images in Microsoft Teams for personal use, you can follow these general steps:
Prepare the background image:
- Choose or create an image that you want to use as your background in Teams.
- Ensure the image meets the recommended requirements, such as the resolution and aspect ratio specified by Microsoft Teams. For example, the image should be at least 1920x1080 pixels.
- Save the image to your computer in a location that is easily accessible.
Open Microsoft Teams:
- Launch the Microsoft Teams application on your computer.
- Sign in to your Teams account if you haven't already.
Access your settings:
- Click on your profile picture or initials located at the top right corner of the Teams interface.
- In the dropdown menu, select "Settings."
Navigate to Background settings:
- In the Settings menu, select "Devices" from the options on the left side.
- Look for the "Camera" section.
- Click on the "Background settings" option.
Add a new background image:
- In the Background settings window, you will see the available background options.
- Scroll down to the "Custom" section.
- Click on the "+" (plus) icon or the "Add new" button, depending on the Teams version.
Select the image:
- A file browser window will open.
- Navigate to the location where you saved the background image.
- Select the image file and click "Open" or "Add."
Set the image as your background:
- The selected image should now appear in the "Custom" section of the background options.
- Click on the image to preview it.
- If you're satisfied with the preview, click "Apply" or "Save" to set it as your background image.
After following these steps, you should have successfully added a new background image in Microsoft Teams for personal use.

- ERoseCVCopper ContributorThe original solution to this problem is totally incorrect.
You need to click the three dots (More) while in a meeting.
Go to Video effects and settings
Select or upload new background.
Select the appropriate background, Preview, then Apply and turn on video - borateenCopper Contributor
I don't seem to have a "background settings" option in the camera section.

Same here. I do not see where this is done anywhere in the latest version. I think this how-to needs refreshed.
- Craig_Milo_RogersCopper ContributorThe procedure is nicely described... but does not currently work on Linux.
