Windows One Drive shared folder suddenly become shortcut instead of folders
Hi,
I am having an issue that I need help with. I have my One Drive account for several years. I have my main account signed in on my laptop. I have 4 other users sharing their folder with edit access to my main account. I add them as short cut to my main account. In the past, on my laptop, they function as folders. Meaning, I can move, delete, add files and they essentially function as a folder. Now, all my shared folder from my other users suddenly becomes short cut. When I open the folder, it brings me to the browser for me to sign in and view them. This never happened before and I am not sure what caused it. Please help.
Edit Update: I am able to fix this by logging into One Drive with my other user account. Seems like not all accounts are affected only some. I know its not a fixed but at least a temporary solution. The problem seems to be on Microsoft side and I hope they fixed it soon or else I will be going to Google Drive.
Update 2: This issue was ongoing since June 7, 2024. As of today, June 19, 2024 it still has not been fixed. Also, one of the Always on device folder on my laptop start deleting stuff on its own. I had to disble the always on device to get it to stop. Great job Microsoft, the most valueable company in the world. I think I will be moving to Google Drive.
- dickachooCopper ContributorSame problem here, Win10, shared folder on one of the family accounts. Only one, the others still works as usual.
- tnohutcuCopper ContributorPlease, just PLEASE, FOR LOVE OF GOD, just fix this problem; our work is suspended because of this nonsense problem! How hard can it be to fix this??
- ScottHuishCopper ContributorThis showed up for me today. Saving file to flash drive just in case. This is crazy. Microsoft needs to fix this ASAP!!

Same here. I have this shared out across multiple devices...and so far (fingers crossed) the only affected is a Windows 10 PC. Are folks see thing across multiple Win versions?

churchcapc Error occured on our win11 laptop too in my entity
- MAXIME320Copper ContributorWe are all with Windows 11 PCs and only one (out of 3) is affected.
- Djeez2Copper ContributorSame here. Observation: this happens with my wife's account (a gmail account) and not with my daughter's account (an outlook account). All on the same PC (Windows 10), all part of the Family and the Microsoft 365 subscription.

We have been having the same issue with 3 laptops for 3 days. So frustrating! Can't seem to get any work done. How is the biggest company in the world taking so long to sort it!
Weve tried reinstalling onedrive, whole of 365 and even reset default opening apps but no success.
Strangely some of the shared folders still appear as a linked folder in Explorer but only a handful of folders show up and those are not syncing to the main server folder.
If anyone finds a solution please do share Djeez2
- GJEdwCopper ContributorThis happened to me this afternoon for my laptop and morning for my desktop.
My desktop just turned off and I didn't notice the changes only at 11pm when I was working. Same with my laptop, it restarted on its own in the afternoon. Now my work is a mess.- BartelfriedrichhelbigCopper ContributorSame Problem here,
I am afraid it is a new feature
- CKS1377Copper ContributorI have ten different computers I have shared a OneDrive link with and three are experiencing the same issue. I have tried everything including reinstalling complete operating systems with no success. Hopefully Microsoft addresses this soon.

Hi,
Have the same bug for 4 for days now. Severly affecting my work. Contemplating my own NAS now.
Is there any response from Microsoft yet?????

I've tried Everything...
I even deleted one drive to set it up again... nothing changes...
I removed the authorisations to the user affected by the problem to put it again, but is stays in the "shared with me" column, and it is impossible to load to the computer...
Meanwhile, the two other computers using Onedrive are behaving perfectly...
Is anyone aware of an update that could have caused the problem?
I tried to call microsoft but nobody to speak with...
Problem has been seen 500 times but not answer...
It is really affecting our business...
- tnohutcuCopper ContributorI have the same problem and I have tried every possible solution, but no help, It's really frustrating.

kaydee8888 , your temporary solution could be a great start for the resolution of the problem.
I'll check if sharing folders between @outlook.com accounts the issue goes away.
