How do I record my screen on Windows 11 with sound

I've recently upgraded to Windows 11 and I'm encountering some difficulties with a task that I think many of you might have experience with. Specifically, I'm trying to figure out how to record my screen on Windows 11 with sound. While I've found the built-in screen recording tool in Windows 11 to be quite straightforward for capturing video, I'm struggling to include audio in my recordings.

I've done some basic troubleshooting like checking my microphone and system sound settings, but I haven't had much luck so far. It's crucial for my work to create high-quality screen recordings that include both the screen activity and the accompanying audio, so any advice, tips, or recommendations from this community would be greatly appreciated.

I also encountered the same problem after upgrading to Windows 11. The built-in tool could not record audio well. Later I used Aiseeesoft Screen Recorder, which not only has high video quality, but also excellent audio recording and is easy to use. It helps me a lot in making presentations and tutorials at work.

Snipping Tool and Xbox Game Bar are the built-in screen recorder utilities in Windows 11. I don't know which one caused you trouble, but they can record audio and screen simultaneously.

If it's the Snipping tool, firstly check whether you've toggled on the below options in the settings; that's where you might get the audio not recording issue.

"Include microphone input by default when a screen recording starts."

"Include system audio by default when a screen recording starts."

If it happens in the Snipping Tool and Xbox Game Bar, change the Control Panel.

    1. Open Control Panel, select Sound, switch to the Recording tab, select the Microphone, and then Properties.

    2. Switch to the Advanced option, uncheck the option "Allow applications to take exclusive control of this device" and then try.

You cannot expect perfect recording abilities and flexibility in native screen recorders in Windows 10 and Windows 11. Many users relying highly on screen recording tasks tend to use OBS, VLC, and other professional apps to capture screen and sound on a computer.

You can follow this quick guide, which shares insights on several classic screen recorders for Windows 11 and includes an elaborate guide on how to use each one.

Using PowerPoint to record screen on Windows 11 is a very convenient method, especially for those who are accustomed to using Office software. PowerPoint can not only be used to make slides, but its built-in screen recording function is also very useful, which can capture screen activities and audio at the same time. Here are the specific steps and some usage experiences:

    1. Open PowerPoint:
    2. Launch PowerPoint, which can be an already open presentation, or create a new blank presentation.
    3. Click the "Insert" tab at the top and find "Screen Recording" in the toolbar. This option is usually on the right side of the tab.
    4. After clicking "Screen Recording", the screen will turn gray and a selection box will appear for you to select the area to record. You can choose to record the entire screen or just a part of the screen.
    5. Make sure the "Record System Audio" and "Record Microphone" options at the bottom of the screen are checked so that you can record the internal sound of the computer and the sound of the microphone at the same time.
    6. After selecting the recording area and audio settings, click the "Record" button to start. Before recording starts,
    7. PowerPoint will have a three-second countdown.
    8. During recording, the control bar will be hidden, and you can make it reappear by moving the mouse to the top of the screen to stop recording.
    9. After recording, the video will be automatically inserted into the current slide. You can edit the video, such as trimming the beginning or end.

If necessary, you can also right-click the video and select "Save As" to save the video as a file.

This feature of PowerPoint is very suitable for teaching or demonstration videos, because you can use PowerPoint's editing tools to process the video directly after recording, such as adding text descriptions, transition effects, etc.

The built-in "Camera" app in Windows can not only be used to take photos and record videos of yourself through the webcam, but it can also be used to record activities on the computer screen, although this feature is relatively unknown.

This method is suitable for users who do not want to install additional software but need to quickly record videos. Here are the steps to use the "Camera" app to record screen on Windows 11 without sound:

    1. Open the Camera app:
    2. Click the Start menu, search for "Camera", and open the app.
    3. After opening the app, it is in photo mode by default. You need to click the camera icon on the interface to switch to video mode.
    4. When you are ready, click the red record button to start recording screen activities. At this time, it will capture your microphone sound, which is suitable for recording commentary videos.
    5. After recording is completed, click the record button again to stop recording.
    6. The recorded video will be saved in the "Camera" subfolder under the "Pictures" folder.

Although the "Camera" app is mainly used to record content captured by a physical camera, with some settings, it can also be used to record the screen. The advantage of this method is that it can be completed directly using the built-in tools in Windows without any third-party software, which is particularly suitable for simple recording tasks. If your recording needs are more professional or require higher-quality recording effects, you may still need to consider other professional screen recording tools.

Xbox Game Bar is a really handy tool, especially if you're already using Windows 11. It's primarily meant for gaming, but it's also great for recording regular screen activity.

First, you need to make sure it's enabled. Typically, you can summon the Game Bar by pressing Win + G. If not, you may need to go to Settings, find the "Gaming" settings, and make sure the Xbox Game Bar switch is on there.

To record your screen using Xbox Game Bar, follow these steps:

    1. Press Win + G to bring up the Xbox Game Bar interface.
    2. Click the volume icon and make sure both "System Sound" and "Microphone" are turned on.
    3. Click the "Record" button to start recording, or use the Win + Alt + R shortcut.
    4. Press Win + Alt + R again or click the "Stop" button on the Xbox Game Bar.
    5. The recorded video is automatically saved in the "Captures" subfolder of the "Videos" folder.

It's that simple! This way you can quickly record screen on Windows 11 with audio.

Smithchow  When using the Xbox Game Bar on Windows 11, there are several things you should keep in mind to ensure you get the most out of the tool:

Full-Screen Mode: The Xbox Game Bar may not function properly in full-screen mode for certain games or applications. If you need to record full-screen content, you might need to switch to windowed mode.

Limited Application Support: Some applications, especially certain video players or specialized software, might not be compatible with the Xbox Game Bar's recording features.

Resource Usage: Recording video and audio can be resource-intensive. Make sure your system has enough processing power and memory, especially if you're recording while running other demanding applications.

Frame Rate Drops: You might notice a drop in frame rates or general performance in games or applications when recording, particularly on systems with lower specifications.

By keeping these points in mind, you can use the Xbox Game Bar effectively for recording screen on Windows 11 with sound while avoiding common pitfalls.

Recording your screen on Windows 11 with sound can be accomplished by using the built-in tool, Snipping Tool, which has been updated to include screen recording features. First, ensure that your system's sound settings are properly configured to capture the audio you intend to record, whether it's system sounds, microphone input, or both.

To start, open the Snipping Tool from the Start menu or by searching for it. In the Snipping Tool's interface, you'll find an option to switch from image capture mode to screen recording mode. Before you begin recording, you can choose the audio source you want to include in your recording via the app's settings. Ensure the correct audio source is selected to capture the sound accompanying your screen recording.

Once you're ready to record, select the area of the screen you wish to capture or choose to record the full screen. Then, click the record button to start capturing both your screen and the selected audio. The Snipping Tool allows you to pause and resume the recording as needed, giving you flexibility in what you capture.

After you've finished recording, you can stop the recording, and the file will be automatically saved to your chosen location. The Snipping Tool also provides basic options for trimming your video before saving, allowing you to remove unwanted sections from the beginning or end of your recording. This built-in functionality in Windows 11 makes it convenient and straightforward to record your screen with sound without the need for additional software.
