Yes that goes for me too. I also would like the ability to back-up to an external drive without having to use a third party programme.
In addition, I am having an issue with the 'start and search' part of the task bar. Once I have booted the system I can access the 'start square' or 'search' apps etc but having used either once they then become inactive. In effect they are 'greyed out' and if the mouse hovers over them the egg timer just rotates without any progress.
The only way to be able to use the start or search again is to sign out and sign back in or reboot the system.
I may go and add that as a new query to this forum

Windows 11 still reminds you that you haven't connected your backup drive for too long and gives the option of "reconnect drive" under Security and Maintenance, but my problem is my backup drive died, and there is no way to change it to another drive. I hate Microsoft for the despicable way they treat their users. Why would anyone want Microsoft to take away the ability to do a simple data backup to a local hard drive? They just. don't. care.

Eagles_Wings Buy a new external backup drive, like Seagate, and use their toolkit to do your backup.

  • Backups in Windows 10 were simple. Pick what, where, and schedule. This is all gone in Windows 11. I would appreciate Microsoft allowing the Backup app to pick an external Hard Drive instead of the cloud and allow me to pick when backups occur. I understand One Drive is a revenue center for Microsoft but I would rather maintain my own backups

I can't see this option. I'm on W11 and only OneDrive is available 😐

    That sound awful.

I did read article a while back Microsoft is thinking of making users back their whole system to cloud service where they will manage all updates in the future and allow you to access your files.

What it entailed is your future cpu will come with the basic operating system on one side of the chipset which is inaccessible to users and the other side is like a firmware for updating a type of hybrid cpu chipset then you have to add feature from Microsoft cloud system including back up and recovery tool that will only allow users to back up to cloud server only.

Good for those tech savvy companies bad for end users who need a copy of their back up on external drive in case of problems and do not have access to internet.

But try this go to the search box and type in Backup and recovery tool see what the return result is.

i am ensure you do have that old feature available in Windows 11 it just may not be in the back up in the settings.

I did it and there is no way to set an automatic backup on my hard disk 😞
