Azure Communication Services and Microsoft Teams AMA
Event Ended
Wednesday, Mar 08, 2023, 09:00 AM PSTEvent details
We are excited to welcome you to the Azure Communication Services and Microsoft Teams AMA. We'll talk about the possibilities of connecting Teams with the communication capabilities in Azure and the cool stuff we can build with it. We are looking forward to hearing your ideas, concerns or top of mind and answer any questions you might have about Azure Communication Services interoperability into Microsoft Teams.
The AMA will take place on Wednesday, March 8 from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. PT in the comment section below. This AMA is text only – meaning there will not be any video nor audio.
An AMA is a live online event similar to an “Ask Me Anything” on Reddit. This AMA gives you the opportunity to connect with members of Microsoft trainers and the product engineering team who will be on hand to answer your questions and listen to feedback.
Feel free to post your questions anytime in the comments below beforehand, if it fits your schedule or time zone better, though questions will not be answered until the live hour.

- AllanMartinsCopper ContributorCan you share what's next on the Viva Insights roadmap? Any new features we can expect in the coming months?

Hi Allan. Unfortunately, we don't have insight into the Viva Insights roadmap. You should feel free to head over the Viva pages and take a look through their recent blogs or post a question directly. Hope this helps for now. https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/t5/microsoft-viva/ct-p/MicrosoftViva
- Operator_DisconnectCopper ContributorWhere can I find comprehensive MS pricing for calling plans? I know some calling plans include a certain "pool" of minutes and you are charge per minute after the pool has been exhausted, but I am having a little difficulty finding the details on how many minutes each calling plan includes. I am also having trouble finding pricing specific to toll free usage. Are there different rates for toll free numbers? This is what I have found so far: https://azure.microsoft.com/en-us/pricing/details/communication-services/
- tchladek
Microsoft
Here is pricing of Microsoft Teams calling plans and here is pricing for Azure Communication Services Direct Offers. Microsoft Teams calling plan documentation includes information about the pool of minutes and price of phone numbers. Azure Communication Services do not provide pool minutes. Are there any specific details you would like to dive into?
- Operator_DisconnectCopper ContributorAs for details, are local numbers treated the same as toll free numbers? How are we charged for in-bound toll free usage?
- AllanMartinsCopper ContributorIs there any alternative to handle Service Desk "chat-pool" based services? e.g.: a person starts a conversation with a Bot, and then it redirects to a person who is available at the moment
- MilanKaur
Microsoft
Developer can implement a conversation between a Azure Communication Services user and bot. Then additionally you can add another Azure Communication Services user into the conversation as the agent. If the agent is Teams user, then you might need to leverage Teams chat bot to bridge the conversation between Azure Communication Services and Teams. But keep in mind, that Teams chat bot has throttling limits. Another option is to build Teams app, that leverages Azure Communication Services. Is this answer helpful?
- Ruben_SandovalCopper ContributorIs there a fix for the issue where your video output stops working during a meeting and other attendees just see a black screen for you? I have found that sharing then unsharing your desktop sometimes returns your webcam footage.
- MilanKaur
Microsoft
Can you elaborate on the scenario? Are you using Azure Communication Services for video calling?
- Jeffery CusickCopper ContributorCUrrently we use ACS to intake calls and then route them to a teams calling queue via external phone transfer. Ideally we would transfer them directly. will this now be possible? As a second part of that, it would be great if instead of the teams call queue functionality, ACS could hold callers and report on how many on hold and how long and then our call agents could click a link when available to take the next caller in line. Any advances along those lines?
- tchladek
Microsoft
Thank you for your interest in this capability. We cannot currently accept phone call via ACS call automation SDK and then transfer the call to Teams Call Queue via Voice-over-IP (VoIP). Please check back in couple weeks as we update our capabilities frequently. Additionally, you can receive events for every incoming call via for example Event Grid. With this information, developers can build all the capabilities that you have described. Is this sufficient for your use case or are you looking for existing solution that would provide this capability?- Operator_DisconnectCopper ContributorThomas, I know you mentioned checking back in a couple of weeks, but is this on the roadmap for the near future?
- AllanMartinsCopper ContributorIs there any plans to integrate the "Updated" Bing (powered by ChatGPT) with Teams?
- Operator_DisconnectCopper ContributorCan you utilize different methods of "dial-tone" for the voice channel of Omnichannel in D365, similar to Teams ability to use operator connect, MS calling plans, direct routing, direct routing as a service, etc.? Or is there only one means of "dial-tone" for Voice Channel, and is that means MS calling plans in ACS?
- tchladek
Microsoft
Do I understand your question correctly, whether there are other ways to get phone numbers into Dynamics 365 Omnichannel than through Azure Communication Services Direct Offers? For example, connecting Azure Communication Services Direct Routing, Microsoft Teams Calling Plans, Microsoft Teams Direct Routing, or Microsoft Teams Operator Connect- Operator_DisconnectCopper ContributorYes, that is correct.
