The description for containers or multi-containers in Firefox is this: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/containers Multi-Account Containers is a Firefox add-on that lets you separate your work, shopping or personal browsing without having to clear your history, log in and out, or use multiple browsers. It's an improved version of the Containers feature built into Firefox Nightly and the completed Firefox Containers Test Pilot experiment. What are Containers? Container tabs are like normal tabs except that the sites you visit will have access to a separate slice of the browser's storage. This means your site preferences, logged in sessions, and advertising tracking data won't carry over to the new container. Likewise, any browsing you do within the new container will not affect your logged in sessions, or tracking data of your other containers. Back to the Microsoft, in Edge browser, we have profiles, we can create multiple profiles and give them custom names we can create offline profiles or we can connect those profiles to online Microsoft accounts (free or work accounts) Edge also has other features (in Canary and Dev channels at the moment of writing this) Automatic profile switching Multiple profile preferences the description text says: Automatic profile switching feature detects links being opened in incorrect Microsoft account profiles and guides users to correct work, school or personal profile by showing a prompt that lets user switch to correct profile. So, now consider all that's been said above, there is an opportunity here. Microsoft Edge already has the base and fundamental features to have a container experience, the only things left to be done are some tweaking. How? Container/multi-container in Firefox is basically an add-on. I've been testing Firefox nightly in the past few months as my default browser and used containers extensively, I've also been using Edge browser and multiple profiles and I'm 100% sure this can happen. Microsoft (i.e Edge browser team) kindly need to improve the Automatic profile switching. so what I mean is, this feature that can already detect links and switch/open them in a different/correct profile, now it needs to Also be able to switch/open links that the user manually specifies. Edge team need to simplify the profiles that are going to be used for container. the profiles used for containers need to share the same installed extensions, favorites, history etc but when it comes to cookies, site cache etc they should be isolated. So for Example, I want all of the links coming from Facebook.com domain to be opened in a profile that's named "Facebook". I want all of the links coming from Twitter.com domain to be opened in a profile called "Twitter" and so on. this is Exactly how multi-container in Firefox works, users specifies a list of addresses and websites and they are automatically opened in their own container, separate from the other containers and the main browsing session, but still in the same window. each container is opened as a tab, next to other tabs, Not in a separate window. so one of the tweaks that I mentioned that need to happen is that Edge should let us open links from different profiles in the same window. currently it can't and each profile is opened in a separate window. so once Edge is able to open Tabs belonging to different profiles in the same window (next to other tabs), those tabs can be colored and marked with a feature that is already available in Edge, called "Tab Groups", the job of which is to put different tabs together and give them a specific color and name. in the screenshot above, I'm showing the end goal and what I hope to happen. so the group "Facebook" with the Cyan color means those tabs belong to a Different profile in Edge that is called "Facebook, but are in the same Edge window next to other tabs that belong to other profiles. I really believe this is totally possible and achievable. let me know what you think and if there is something that can improve this in case I missed it, please comment down below. thank you Deleted MissyQ please review and let the team know? 🙏16KViews15likes15CommentsTab Grouping needs So much improvements
Tab grouping in Edge insider canary is worse than Tab grouping in Google chrome stable Edge insider Version 81.0.375.0 (Official build) canary (64-bit) VS Google Chrome Version 79.0.3945.88 (Official Build) (64-bit) so in Google chrome, when I go to a website (Any website) and then right-click on a link (could be video, post, picture etc), Google chrome automatically puts my original tab and the new tab into one group and gives it a color. Then if i open a new website in a third tab, it has no group by default but once i right-click on a link on that website and open it in a new tab, the same grouping happens. these groups with different colors help us recognize which tabs belong to which website/group and make things easier to manage. in Microsoft Edge, I have to right-click on each tab and create groups manually. P.S if you are wondering how to activate Tab Grouping: you have to go to here: edge://flags/ then find this from the search: Tab Groups and set it to enabled restart your browser4.1KViews10likes11Comments[Feature Suggestion] Show update history in Edge
Please show the update history in edge://settings/help lots of spaces left there, it helps to keep track of installed updates on the local machine. only show update history after Edge is installed on the system, not from the beginning of the time. Firefox has this and it's very helpful, specially for insider channel. I only want to see the time and the version number of previously installed updates on my system. you can add a scroll bar to the right side to scroll down/up when the history rows are too many to fit that area. posting from latest available Edge Version 82.0.418.0 (Official build) canary (64-bit) the Share looks like this so it expects user to have the UWP apps installed. there are problems with that: UWP is not available on all platforms. on Windows 8.1, on Mac, and soon on Linux. also some popular apps like Instagram, their UWP version haven't been updated in ages. Facebook app is also old. also my installed app list in Edge (PWAs) look like this: You see, I've added my favorite social network websites as apps in Edge, PWAs are better, they do not require installation and experience is the same in all platforms. so now when I want to share something on Twitter, Facebook, Reddit etc, I have to use the method that I've been using since 15 years ago. the old copy paste method. because the Share functionality is totally useless at the current state. my suggestion: make Share functionality in Edge to detect the installed PWA apps, websites added as an app, and then offer them on the Share window as options. when I have Twitter added as PWA in Edge, I obviously don't want it double on my system by installing the UWP version. the same applies to the rest of the social networks.Solved4.2KViews9likes13CommentsDownload speed on Edge is too slow - Parallel downloading is broken
I've been testing and using this feature for as long as the new Edge has been around, without parallel downloading flag (edge://flags/#enable-parallel-downloading), the download speed is unbelievably slow, with the flag enabled, it's only slightly better. I don't know how many concurrent connections Edge makes to the download server with this flag on, but it's very broken. for example, download speed of a file in Edge is only 500 KB/s with parallel downloading on, with a download manager like Free Download Manager, the speed is 10x faster. I'm aware that this is depended on the network conditions of each user and my experience can't be universal and experienced by everyone, but the simply fact that a download manager with 6 to 8 concurrent (parallel) connections can fully utilize my Internet bandwidth, and Edge can't do this, is a problem. this is not something to be fixed with a simple browser reinstall or even related to OS. throughout the past 2 years I've done these countless times, literally. I'm sending feedback about it using the feedback button on Edge, if you're reading this and want download speed to be improved in Edge, please do the same and in the feedback URL add the link to this post for full description, thank you24KViews7likes10CommentsEdge should have the ability to Resume Downloads after restarting the Edge browser or device
when I was using chrome few years ago, it also had this annoying limitation, now Edge (using latest available Edge canary) still has this problem. when you are downloading and pause your downloads, you can't restart the browser or device without losing your download progress, it will reset. this is really a fundamental problem, I've done my part which was sending feedback through Edge, if you are reading this and want the same thing, please send feedback from your browser and request this to be fixed. thank you4.7KViews7likes1Comment2 suggestions for Edge password manager
1. Add notes for each saved password. I use this feature in LastPass and it helps keep the details related to site logins in the same place with the passwords. details such as: recovery codes, 2FA recover codes, registered phone number, answer to security questions etc you see, all these details are important for logging into that website and help us keep our access to our online accounts. 2. show the Favicon of websites in Edge password manager to help identify websites faster in password list. I've sent these through Edge feedback button as well, if you agree with suggestions above you can do the same2.7KViews7likes9CommentsSuggestion: add Progress Bar and Next/Prev options to the PiP (Picture in Picture) in Edge browser
Suggestion: add Progress Bar and Next/Prev options to the PiP (Picture in Picture) in Edge browser Here is a video of my side by side comparison of PiP in Edge Canary Version 83.0.461 and PiP in Windows 10 Movies & TV app which is the superior one. Also allow to control that progress bar in PiP. use the same small minimal style from the app on Windows 10 but on mouse hover, the progress bar needs to get bigger and come Up so user can control it and click on it. Thanks. https://streamable.com/rocr2Solved5.9KViews7likes12CommentsAdd Syncing of PWAs between devices | sites that are installed as apps in Edge browser
I usually add a bunch of sites and social medias to Edge as PWA and install them in Edge: edge://apps/ I would like them to sync with my Microsoft account and to be available on all of my devices, other Windows and Mac devices, so I won't have to install them one by one again.Solved6.3KViews7likes19Comments
