22 TopicsBroken dark mode and inverted colors!
Hi there, I've been sending reports about this issue in "Feedback" of Microsoft Edge DAILY for a YEAR now ! Because of the following issues that they keep increasing with every new major update of Edge... And YES I send the diagnostic data with every feedback.. and NO it's not an issue of my Windows because this is happening on several machines with several Windows versions, and it only happens when I'm turning on "Auto Dark Mode for Web Contents" from edge://flags/ If I turn it off everything goes back to normal, but also the dark mode completely goes away! So this is related to the #enable-force-dark from the flags, don't send me steps of how to fix my Windows or how to reset Edge... The main issue is that "Auto Dark Mode for Web Contents" inverts the colors of A LOT of unrelated stuff in almost EVERY-SINGLE-WEBSTIE !!! Like logos, avatars, profile pics, emojis, some parts of the web design and even some text colors and more!! Which makes these stuff either VERY hard to see/understand OR it makes them completely invisible! 🤦🏻:male_sign: Below are some screenshots of "some" of the issues.. these aren't everything I found, these are just a few examples that I gathered to show you how bad is it.. 1- Many things in frontapp.com / app.frontapp.com like logos and emojis 2- Twitter's emojis and some of the profile pics in there 3- Lots of forums.. actually almost any forum anywhere! Enabling and forcing dark mode and all I see is WHITENESS ! and no words are visible!!! 4- Amazon... 5- DELL... 6- Disney+... 7- Frame.io video previews and almost all video previous from every website! (This started to happen since Edge v102, it was bad .. now it's worse) 8- YouTube white banners in top and bottom when you move the mouse the seek bar pops up.. (Full Screen) YouTube when you are not in full screen there is a white banner in the bottom.. YouTube seek preview if that pic/scene is dark (inverted colors) 9- LG Website (And everything like it including Amazon) 10- Nvidia.. 11- TechSpot 12- Even Your OWN SETTINGS PAGE !! I mean look at this pics carefully... does any color make any sense here?! And all these issues are nothing compared to the WHITE FLASH that blinds me for a few seconds when I start Edge!!!!! I'm using DARK MODE for everything in Edge, WHY THE HELL AM I GETTING A WHITE FLASH THAT ALMOST BLINDS ME THEN???!!!! I mean.. do you even test your stuff and changes ??? Do you test "Auto Dark Mode for Web Contents" with every major update you do ??? Because with every major update things gets worse NOT BETTER! Which means either you don't test or you don't care! 🤷🏻:male_sign: I just had a surgery for my eyes a couple of months ago and I use DARK MODE for everything I have because anything bright hurts MY EYES before and after the surgery... WE ARE NOT USING DARK MODE BECAUSE IT'S COOL, WE ARE USING IT FOR OUR EYES!! SO STOP IGNORING IT !!! These issues have been there AND INCREASING for more than a year now! And again, it's getting worse with every major update of Edge... and again, the screenshots above are just a few examples! The inverted colors are in every-single website!!! And please don't tell me to fix my Windows or Edge because as I said this is happening on every single machine with every single Windows I've tested.... And each machine/Edge has different apps and no extensions.. You guys turn on "Auto Dark Mode for Web Contents" and you will see these disastrous issues everywhere that you don't test.. so this option needs to be fixed/optimized.. and don't forget about the terrible useless white flash at the start.... So... when are these issues going to be fixed??12KViews2likes9CommentsEdge features list
While I appreciate the effort the developers put into expanding the Edge functionality, I also get frustrated when functionality doesn't have proper policies to turn it on/off. A few examples: - Read Aloud msedge.exe --disable-features=msReadAloud,msShowReadAloudIconInAddressBar Currently this works, but there is no policy equivalent - Citations msedge.exe --disable-features=msEdgeCitations Currently this works, but there is no policy equivalent - Sharing Setting policy 'configure the share experience' to disabled does a good job of hiding the newer sharing hub flyout menu. Sadly enough, when selecting the address from the address bar (omnibox) you are presented with a 'Create QR code for this page' button instead. I have not found a way to turn off the QR Code Generator. - Window Naming No policy or command line parameter exists to turn off this feature as far as I know - Bookmarks toolbar button No policy or command line parameter exists to turn off this feature as far as I know. The only way this is configurable at the moment is by specifying 'show_toolbar_bookmarks_button' in the initial_preferences file, which doesn't work well in combination with ephemeral profiles. (only works one time - and many others... Just to be clear: I'm already running edge in kiosk (public browsing) mode. You would expect a minimal UI with a titlebar, optionally a (read-only) addressbar,... But instead you're presented with all that clutter. Even access to the ellipsis menu button, task manager, breakouts to other websites through 'Help and Feedback' > 'What's new', 'Report unsafe website',... are still available in kiosk mode. The only other option that exists is to run the browser in digital signage kiosk mode, but then the user gets a full-screen experience with no access to other applications in Windows. So that's useless if you want to give the user access to more than 1 application. I understand Edge works like Chrome with prefs, settings, features, switches and flags. But I really hope that proper policies are going to be put in place for every feature open to the main public. Customizability is key for large enterprise environments. Now that I got that off my chest... Does anybody know if Microsoft has documented the different prefs, settings, features, switches and flags somewhere? Some of it I can find by reading the Chromium source code, but Microsoft changes to Edge are of course not there.8.2KViews2likes5CommentsAppearance Settings page shows link to Chrome Themes instead of Edge Add-ons Theme Page
I noticed when you go to Settings-Appearance, Edge shows a link to Chrome Webstore Themes, when instead it could direct users to the Edge Add-ons Themes page. Shouldn't the message and link direct users to Edge's own add-ons website?Solved877Views1like1CommentSame version of Edge showing different settings
Wondering why when I have the same version of Microsoft Edge 99.0.1150.55 the setting choices are not the same. They are on two different versions of Windows one is Windows 10 Pro 21H1 and the other is Windows 10 Enterprise LTSC 1809. The 1809 version is what we use for our VMWare virtual machines. You can see that the lower image doesn't have the same choices. So I am wondering is that because of the different Windows 10 versions? and why?1.2KViews1like2CommentsPlease Add Profile Customisation in Settings (Suggestion)
In Chromium based browser, there have a separated settings page for Customise Profile (Google Chrome: chrome://settings/manageProfile). However, in Microsoft Edge does not have this settings page. In Customise Profile, user can customise the profile name, profile picture and also create a desktop shortcut to access directly to a specific profile. Although user can create desktop shortcut by using command line, but it is difficult for some users and sometime will cause error (Users can find shortcut at %AppData%\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch\User Pinned\ImplicitAppShortcut). Then if users access a profile, users need to choose profile in Profile at left of 3-dot (More options). Below pictures show the Customise Profile Settings Page.634Views0likes0CommentsMicrosoft Edge extension settings synchronization
Microsoft Edge has the extension sync capability, but it seems to only sync extensions themselves and not also the settings of these extension. For example, I use Adblock plus extension and every time I have to reset Microsoft Edge or the entire computer, I lose all the whitelisted sited in the extension. I would like to know if it's normal, and if it is, I would like to see added the sync even for the settings of the extensions.1.2KViews0likes0CommentsWindows 11 visual change contains transparency for Edge, make it available for the entire UI
If you install Windows 11 latest version from Windows insider and have the latest Edge canary, you can enable this flag, restart your browser and see the new changes in the Edge UI. edge://flags/#edge-pc-ui-integration Edge menu on the right is transparent as well as right-click context menu on different parts of Edge, they are really nice, but the rest of the settings page is still in the old gray style. I know it's still work in progress, but I hope once Edge developers are done with it, they complete the transparent page for Edge and don't leave it like this. the toolbar and title bar also should be transparent too. hopefully Edge's settings page will eventually look like Windows 11's settings page.14KViews3likes0CommentsThe setting "Privacy, Search, and Services/Cookies and other site data/Do not clear" is broken
If you Add [*.]randomsite.com and select "Include third party cookies," the entry will not persist. The entry will only persist if you do not select "Include third party cookies" Also, you cannot Remove an entry [*.]otherrandomsite.com. TL;dr "Do not clear" is broken and buggy on the Mac and Windows Canary channel 93.0.914.01.1KViews0likes0CommentsWhy Canary can't be set as default browser in settings but Windows still allows it?
I don't see the point of preventing users from setting Edge canary as default browser in here: edge://settings/defaultBrowser But Allowing them to set it as default browser in Windows settings: so why the inconsistency? just let us set it as default browser from Edge settings page too.923Views0likes0CommentsSo Edge syncs my high score of surf game but can't sync the cookies list? 🤔
edge://surf/ I noticed Edge synced and remembers my highest score in this game (which i don't remember but got it some time in the past apparently). the reason i know it's not global score is because on new Edge installation without sign in, it's zero. so Edge remembers that, but doesn't remember nor syncs this important data in edge://settings/clearBrowsingDataOnClose i've sent feedbacks before, but this list still isn't being synced. why?871Views0likes0Comments
