201 TopicsCreate a link to a FileServer in SP
Hi all, I've a question for you, could you please tell me if it's possible to create a link between a SharePoint site and a FileServer? Let me explain: I use a SharePoint list to list all my projects. A Power Automate flow creates a new SP site for every new entry on the list When I click on the code of a project, it's a link to the new site my flow just created. I can store all my documents in this site EXCEPT my drawing files which are too big and impossible to work online on it. So I have an hybrid solution with plans and big files on a fileserver and communication / admin files on Teams/SP. What I want to do is to create a link between the 2 solutions. So I can have an URL on my Server folder to redirect to the SP site. But is it possible to create a kind of link on the SP site to open the file File Explorer on my mapped folder (\\ServerName\Projects\ProjectCode)? Is it possible to create something like that? Hi, I am looking to start to put together a Governance Document for my companies SharePoint sites. I have never done this before, I've looked on the MS sites, found one or two articles, what I am looking for is if anyone has actually created a document themselves, pointers, links to useful content, exactly what was included within your document?Solved1.3KViews1like2CommentsBest place to learn almost everything about SharePoint?

I am working on a new project where the customer has E5 licenses. So, they have 3 options for using SharePoint: - Online only On-premises Hybrid This is the first time the customer will be using SharePoint, and we need to build this basic setup for phase one: - Home site for all users, to access Company-wide News/Announcements & company-wide Templates/Documents. The home site will have links to each department site. Each department site will have its own News/Announcement and Templates/Documents. We will start by 3 departments: HR, IT & Finance. We need to decide if we should go with SharePoint Online only, on-premises only or build a hybrid environment? I am suggesting these Points/Approach:- Since we need a basic setup and there are not any compliance requirements to use on-premises, we can do all the above inside SharePoint Online. in the future if certain departments have specific compliance requirements, we can set up the SharePoint subscription server edition and build a hybrid environment with the available online Can anyone advice on which approach to follow? and does my suggested approach makes sense? Hi, nowadays, is it possible to have an enterprise search work across SharePoint Online and other products (mainly Atlassian, e.g. Confluence, Jira, Bamboo)? As far as I can tell such solutions always require a SharePoint on premise installation and even then, I don't know if it can be integrated into SPO. So, Microsoft documentation regarding the configuration and management of hybrid content types (here, and here) is limited to say the least. Despite a fair amount of troubleshooting with authentication we appear to have a correct configuration. However no online content types are synced to on-prem. Setup 1. Created a local content type in SP on-prem (Subscription edition). 2. Ran the PowerShell script to replicate the on-prem content type to online: $credential = Get-Credential Copy-SPContentTypes -LocalSiteUrl https://spserver/sites/contenttypehub -LocalTermStoreName "Managed Metadata Service" -RemoteSiteUrl https://domain.sharepoint.com/ -ContentTypeNames @("ContentType") -Credential $credential NOTE 1: the required credential in this command is an Azure account with at least SharePoint Admin role. NOTE 2: the command sends legacy authentication so the Azure account used MUST NOT HAVE MFA enabled. You may also need to ensure that the account authentication is not blocked by a Conditional Access rule, otherwise you get the misleading error "Copy-SPContentTypes : The sign-in name or password does not match one in the Microsoft account system." 3. Ran the hybrid wizard to configure Taxonomy and Content Type Synchronisation. All of the above was completed successfully. - The on-prem content type was replicated to online. - The hybrid wizard ran with no errors. - The server timer job "Content Type Replication" runs on schedule or manually with no errors. Problem No online content types are synced to on-prem. -- There is no documentation regarding how the ongoing timer job synchronisation works, i.e. which account and authentication it uses, which URL's or ports it communicates on, whether it initiates a push from the cloud or pull from on-prem...235Views0likes0Commentsunable to open Excel file from Sharepoint
"Hello, I am experiencing issues with certain users unable to open files from SharePoint in Excel desktop, although they can do so in the browser. Accessing files from local drives or OneDrive is functioning correctly. This problem is affecting multiple SharePoint instances and arose after the MS365 update. The error message 'You can't open this file' appears. Can anyone assist me in resolving this issue? Thank you23KViews0likes2CommentsTracking documents folder linked to onedrives
Hi I'm just starting out in SharePoint admin. I am after a way of being able to track down who has their OneDrive accounts directly linked or are sync'ing with Document Library folders on SharePoint sites. Ideally I need a global report as I work for a school and we have lots of different departments. We are using cloud based SharePoint (using through Edge) with OneDrive clients sat on Win11 pro boxes. Hi, My organization is currently running on SP2016 on-premises without one drive access. Recently, we have kicked off discussions to upgrade SP2016 to Hybrid with one drive for file storage. We use MS365 for teams and other desktop apps such as excel, word, PowerPoint etc. I was wondering if we go down the path of upgrading to hybrid solution, then: Do we need to setup one drive in hybrid environment? Can we use one drive to replace network shares for file storage? what sort of configuration do we need to put in place to store sensitive documents with security labels? Any input will be highly appreciated. Thanks207Views0likes0Comments
