Azure Arc and Azure update manager
Hi Wondered if anything can help. I use Azure Update manager to patch my on-prem Windows servers. Recently several of them have starting failing, cant patch or do an assessment on them. They fail with the error "not able to run in specified time" The VMs are definitely connected as I can see them online and heartbeat is active. The only thing I can spot in the activity log for one of the failing VMs is the "Read Azure Arc extensions" has been running for a long time and never seems to complete (See below). I guessing this is why the patching is failing as its queued up before this. I've tried to remove the azure arc agent and re-install but this always comes back. Does anyone have any ideas how to resolve this?SolvedJoshB531Jun 20, 2024Brass Contributor1.3KViews0likes4CommentsArc resource group not created in correct location
Hi everyone, I have an issue with the following: If I create a new Resource Group from Azure Arc Deployment it will be created at default in East US and not where my server details will get saved. My configuration: And resource group looks like this: Is this by design to create resource group beforehand? Hello, everyone, I'm having some problems connecting an OnPremise SQL Server to Azure Arc. This is listed as a VM in Azure ARC. However, the SQL Server is not displayed in the Azure ARC list (SQL Server). The script runs clean and completes without errors. A message is displayed that this server should be available in a few minutes. However, the problem is that it is not displayed. Thanks in advance Regards PhilSolvedPhil123Mar 28, 2022Brass Contributor1.3KViews1like1CommentClarity on pricing change tracking
I am trying to figure out if we will be billed or not for enabling change tracking in Azure Arc. In both Azure arc and in Azure Automation, under change tracking, it states: "This service is included with Azure virtual machines and Azure Arc machines. You only pay for logs stored in Log Analytics." On the Azure automation price page it states change tracking falls under Configuration management and will be billed at $7.6053/month/node: "Configuration management includes the configuration pull service and change tracking capabilities. Billing is based on the number of nodes that are registered with the service and the log data stored in the Azure Log Analytics service." So which is it? would love to collect this info (and just pay for the LA ingestion) but not $7.60/month per node. Last question. assuming it is free, does anyone have a ballpark or approx range of per node data collection rate for change tracking...i understand that this will vary depending on the server...just wondering if we will see a significant increase in LA costs.SolvedRobYoungDec 06, 2021Iron Contributor5KViews1like2CommentsAzure Arc - State Configuration (DSC)
Please confirm my understanding, onboarding an on-prem server to Azure Arc does not automatically enable State Configuration? Additional steps are required to onboard the Azure Arc node for state configuration (DSC) in an automation account. If this is the case then the creation of an automation account, onboarding the on-prem server to state configuration and deploying the connected machine agent (Azure Arc) may be preferable to reduce the number of times the on-prem server needs to be configured interactively or via PowerShell (either local or remote)?SolvedPaul BendallJul 22, 2021Iron Contributor5.4KViews2likes5CommentsAzure ARC - Update Management - Scoping Deployment
I'm new to Azure Arc but enjoying what I'm learning and the potential to solve customer problems. An element I can't work out is the preferred way to scope Arc Enabled Servers at scale for Update Deployment. The blogs I've read and the jumpstart both discuss the addition of each Arc enabled server under "Machines to Update" but that doesn't seem very dynamic. For a scale solution, I'd expect to be able to use some form of Grouping, but I can't work out how to configure this option for Arc Enabled Servers.SolvedPaul BendallJul 05, 2021Iron Contributor3.8KViews1like4CommentsPOC of Azure Arc Difficulty
Reading through the feature sets and concepts of Azure Arc, I love the idea of a single location for managing our on-prem and azure environments. The question I had is how difficult is it to rollback a deployment? Ideally, I would like to standup the environment, add a couple test machines from both our on-prem and azure environment, present this solution and continue to add our production machines. If we find that Azure Arc is not suitable, I would like to rollback like it never existed. The environment is not very complex. a single datacenter with VMware, and a few Azure vm's in a couple regions. The POC would would be for managing both sql and vm's (no kubernetes at this time)SolvedRobYoungJan 29, 2021Iron Contributor2KViews0likes1Comment
