We're Listening!
Greetings Microsoft Edge Insiders! Let us start off by saying, welcome to the Microsoft Edge Insider community! We’re so excited to have you here, and we can’t wait to start learning from you. If you haven’t read our Welcome to the Microsoft Edge Insider community article yet, we recommend starting there. It has a bunch of great information on how we got here and where we’re heading. Our mission: Our mission is to create a thriving community of valuable Insiders, like you, so we can closely listen and learn how Microsoft Edge can be better. We believe that having open, honest, and continued conversations with our Insider community is a great way to build a close relationship with our users. Why do all of this? Because we want to build a browser that’s deeply grounded in your needs. Your voice is the most important piece of helping us build a better Microsoft Edge. The feedback you provide leads to meaningful conversations that may ultimately produce the new features, bug fixes, and other improvements that matter the most to you. Listening is just the beginning for us. Our true goal is to build Microsoft Edge with the voice of the Insider community as our guiding light. Community voice When we announced the next version of Microsoft Edge back in December, we asked a simple question: If you could change one thing about the web, what would it be? We were completely humbled by the over 40k comments you’ve shared with us. That’s a whole lot of ideas. Thank you! You tell us that you love some things about the current Microsoft Edge browser, like the smooth scrolling experience, our Fluent Design and the precision touchpad, and you hope we’ll bring those things forward into the next version too. Some of you are frustrated with the way that sites render so differently depending on the browser you're using to view them. You also tell us that Web Standards are on the top of your mind. We hear that you want all browsers to adopt the same standards. We hear from some of you web developers that you want new capabilities added to the web platform; whether that be in CSS, HTML or JavaScript. Another top request is an improved dev tools experience. We hear that you have strong feelings about online advertising. Some of you wish ads that pop-up would just disappear and the same for auto-playing ads. While others feel a strong desire to remove or fundamentally change how online advertising works on the web. There is concern how these advertisements enable sites to track you as you browse which feels "creepy" and "invasive." The overwhelming majority of comments (we’re talking thousands of messages) that we have read wish for a change in the fundamental attributes of the web. Make it faster, safer, more reliable and more private. You want your browsers to have smaller memory footprints, lower battery consumption, higher rendering speed and better stability. We agree with you wholeheartedly! The attributes that you say matter most in your browsing experience are performance, privacy, and reliability. So that is where we are starting. We are focusing on delivering outstanding fundamentals. Speed, stability, accessibility, compatibility, security, and privacy are always top of mind for us. We are using your comments and suggestions to guide us while we are getting the new Microsoft Edge ready for its debut. What’s next? In the meantime, jump in, download the Microsoft Edge Insider Channels, and let us know what you think. What’s working well? Where do we need to improve? Over time, we hope to build healthy engagement and feedback loops with our community members. We’re also mindful that our users have preferred ways to engage with us. Whether you view the latest information on the Microsoft Edge Insider website, enjoy direct discussions on our forum, need a personal support assistant via help (F1), share your feedback and suggestions via the smiley face, or just want to give us a shout on Twitter, we’re always listening and looking for ways to reach out wherever our users feel most comfortable and prefer to talk to us. We’re all ears! Thank you for being here. We look forward to listening and engaging with you. -The Microsoft Edge Team-286KViews60likes1189CommentsDiscussion - Updating our interface with Fluent touches
Hi Insiders. We have received a whole lot of feedback on the overall design of the next version of Microsoft Edge. First off, we would like to thank you all for the feedback that you have submitted. We also want you to know that we are continuing to evolve the look and feel of the new Microsoft Edge. You can see our progress in our new icon, in the changes to dark theme, on the layout of the settings pages and in the style of the controls that we have added so far. Our goal has been to modernize the next version of Microsoft Edge while keeping the feel of the original. In the five years since we released the first Microsoft Edge browser with Windows 10, the Microsoft Design Language has and will continue to change and adapt. We have been evolving our user interface with this in mind and may be the first place you see some of these changes. We are planning on continuing to apply elements of the Microsoft Design Language to align with other Microsoft products. We are thrilled with how much you think about the look and feel of the new Microsoft Edge browser. As we dug into the feedback, we found different ideas lumped together into very broad buckets and felt like we needed to re-sort the issues into new categories that are more specific to the actual issues that were being discussed. The previous categories that we have been reporting on are: Update the user interface with the Fluent Design System Make tabs more square and less rounded, like the current version of Microsoft Edge Provide a transparent theme for the browser frame The address bar and text are too large The first step of this journey was to dig into each of the feedback items individually and understand what your ask was, and if there was a reason listed for the feedback. This helped us better understand why you are asking for these changes. The next step we took was to recombine the feedback and sort it into more specific buckets. We understand change is challenging, and we are not changing our interface just to be different. We have been working closely with our designers to get a look and feel that aligns with our Fluent Design language and meets our standards for usability and accessibility. It is our goal for our design to be easier to use on a daily basis. When you provide feedback, it helps us to challenge our assumptions and makes us reanalyze our conclusions. Based on this analysis, we are seeing the following themes emerge from your comments: we will be tracking and following feedback in these categories going forward: Ability to add distinct color or color themes to the main browser interface. Add transparency or other material effect to the main browser interface. The corners of the tabs and browser buttons have been rounded too much. Make the tab band and address bar / toolbar smaller if device doesn’t support touch capability. Update or add animations to user interface. Add a reveal effect to highlight on mouse hover. We would love to start talking about these items now. Please let us know if you think that we are on the right track with the changes we have made so far. The most impactful feedback is that which lists the task that you are trying to accomplish, the challenges that you face while accomplishing it, and your ideas on how it could be made easier. Also, feel free to reach out if you think that we have missed something important here. We will always take feedback and suggestions to help us make this the best, fastest, most productive browser possible.Solved137KViews82likes479CommentsDiscussion - Set Aside Tabs and Warn on Close
Hi Insiders, we have received a lot of feedback about how you would like to close your tabs with the option of easily finding and reopening them later as you move between different workflows. Specifically, many of you are asking for the Tab Set Aside feature from the previous version of Microsoft Edge to be brought back. Some of you are also asking for a prompt to help avoid losing all your tabs such that you can’t find them again if you accidentally close the browser. • Ask users if they want to close all tabs when they close a browser window • Bring the tab set aside feature from the current version of Microsoft Edge Each of these requests seem related to the fact that many of you have a lot of tabs open at once across many tasks and workflows. This leads to a situation where it can often be difficult to manage all of your tabs at the same time, and each additional tab makes it difficult to deal with all of the rest (e.g. tabs get smaller, harder to read each titles, many similar tab icons begin to blur together, etc.). But it can also be scary to close tabs and declutter your workspace, for fear of not being able to find things again later if you need to. We have definitely experienced this problem ourselves, observed it in our research and conversations with users, and agree it is an area where we want to invest in tools to help you be more productive across various tasks. We are actively investigating the best way to address this problem and would love your help and input as we proceed to make sure we get the experience just right. We have looked through your feedback, and there are definitely some very valid reasons for why there was value in the Set Aside feature such as: Helping you pick up on a task later without leaving the tabs open when you aren’t using them, organizing your tabs into groups related to a similar task, and a short term home for more transient tasks that didn’t warrant saving in a permanent location such as Favorites. We also reviewed feedback on the Set Aside feature itself from people actually using it in the previous version of Microsoft Edge, and there were some very valid critiques on how it worked and how it could be improved. For example, the Set Aside buttons being in a location where they were often accidentally clicked causing some to think their tabs had disappeared, requests to be able to set aside a subset of the currently open tabs rather than “all or nothing”, or requests to rename and personalize tab groups further to more easily find them again later. The request for a prompt before closing the browser also feels related, because if people could always confidently find and reopen any of their previous tabs, then there would be less fear or concern about losing tabs if they are accidently closed. This would allow people to feel free to declutter and reduce the number of open tabs with no fear about finding them later if needed, and more easily focus on the subset of tabs they are working on now. As we begin this journey of investigating how best to address these requests, we are asking for your help. Please continue to tell us more about your experience with Set Aside and closing tabs in Microsoft Edge, why these features are important to you in which types of tasks, what did and didn’t work for you about previous implementations, and how you would improve on these scenarios going forward.83KViews69likes337CommentsSign in with a Google account - Discussion
Thanks for your feedback requesting the ability to sign in with a consumer Google account. From what we’re hearing, you’d like the ability to bring over data from Chrome, use your Google services and keep Microsoft Edge and Chrome in sync. While we recognize this need, we’re currently focused on creating great 1st party account experiences with your Microsoft account and Work or School account. We appreciate the feedback around supporting signing in with other providers such as Google and will be taking this under consideration. One option available to you now would be to create a new Microsoft Account using your @gmail address, which would allow you to use a single user identifier across the various services you use. Today, you can import your data from Chrome by going to edge://settings/importData for a one time import. You can also sign into Google websites and remember your password in Microsoft Edge to reduce the number of times you need to sign into these websites. And you can access your Microsoft Edge data on the go by signing into Microsoft Edge with a Microsoft account and syncing with Microsoft Edge Mobile apps and Microsoft Edge on other devices. We will keep you updated as we further explore support for other sign-in providers in Microsoft Edge as well, it is on our roadmap.Solved234KViews13likes328CommentsWelcome to the Microsoft Edge Insiders community
Hello Microsoft Edge Insiders! Ever since we first announced in December that Microsoft Edge was going to adopt the Chromium open source project for our desktop browser, we’ve been excited to begin launching our Insider community. The time has finally come, and everyone can try out the new version of the browser right now! We want to use this opportunity to start building a close relationship with all of you. Going beyond collecting comments and reviews, we’re eager to listen and engage in active conversations with you. We believe your collective voices will help us build a better Microsoft Edge, and that’s our vision for this community. With our recent adoption of Chromium, Microsoft Edge gets a chance to grow beyond its initial home on Windows 10. As we’ve reflected on the best ways to enable a new listening system to support other versions of Windows and platforms, we’ve realized that our goals should be based on what we want as customers, not as engineers or designers. What would such a system look like? That’s where all of you come in. Based on the feedback you’ve graciously given us over the past few years, we know it’s important to be able to quickly and easily send us problems or suggestions from directly within the browser. You also want a way to engage meaningfully and deeply with the developers, as well as a way to get immediate support when you run into a problem that you can’t fix on your own. Other Insider programs at Microsoft have provided good models for us to follow for our new community. However, the Microsoft Edge Insider community has one important difference: you don’t need to sign up. Just downloading and using the Microsoft Edge Canary, Dev, or Beta channels is enough. We hope that this relationship can be beneficial for both parties. For you, this isn’t just about being a member of an active group of fellow browser enthusiasts. You also get: a chance to see new features before all the other Microsoft Edge users; an in-depth understanding of how and why we built them, a direct channel of communication with the engineers responsible for them, and the chance to critique them and suggest what we should build next. We at Microsoft get valuable early feedback, your verbal and written insights about what you do and don't like about a given feature or approach, which will help us steer the product in the right direction. The ability to dig deeper and understand the why behind the what, while learning from a large and diverse worldwide audience. Finally, through our continuing conversations, we hope Insiders will invite others in their own communities to come and join in our conversation. So, what can you expect from us? As our new features start making their way into the builds, our goal is to publish at least one new article every other week to inform and encourage active discussions on the latest developments in the Insider channels. We are devoting some of our time to reading and responding to every thread, and you can expect direct interaction from the Microsoft Edge team that promotes the deepest, most enlightening discussions. We’re fully committed to building an open, honest and respectful community of awesome Insiders like you. We hope you’ll join our discussions or start your own today. Welcome to our community. We can’t wait to build a great Edge community together! -The Microsoft Edge Team-69KViews48likes313CommentsDev channel update to 80.0.320.3 is live
UPDATE 3: 320.5 has been released with the fix for Netflix not working. UPDATE 2: 320.4 has been released with the fix for the Task Bar icons issue. The Netflix issue is expected to be fixed in another update tomorrow. UPDATE: We're expecting to release a small update in the next day or two to fix an issue where users with multiple browser profiles still see the old Edge icon on the Task Bar, and an issue where Netflix doesn't work. Hello insiders, we’ve got some big news today! With today’s Dev Channel update to 80.0.320.3, we’re officially releasing a new icon for all Microsoft Edge channels. You can read more about it here: https://blogs.windows.com/msedgedev/2019/11/04/edge-chromium-release-candidate-get-ready. That page also contains a date, January 15 th , which is when we expect to release our first Stable Channel build, at which point Edge will be generally available to download on Windows and Mac. Some of you may have noticed a cryptic update last week. That was part of a series of puzzles that hundreds of insiders participated in over the past weekend. The puzzles culminated in a surfing game hidden inside Edge, and the reward for beating it was the chance to see the new icon before anybody else. You can click here for instructions on how to unlock the game, or just search Twitter for #FindWhatsNext to try solving some of the puzzles! With all of these exciting announcements, we do have a few known issues that are still in this week’s build: Extensions that are installed from the Chrome Web Store aren’t getting automatically updated. We expect the fix for this issue to be in today’s Canary and next week’s Dev. The fix for the issue where Edge’s first launch leads to a blank white window didn’t make it into this week’s build. We now expect it next week. There are some issues where users with multiple audio output devices sometimes don’t get any sound from Edge. In one case, Edge becomes muted in the Windows Volume Mixer and unmuting it fixes it. In another, restarting the browser fixes it. At certain zoom levels, there is a noticeable line between the browser UI and the web contents. Some users were still seeing screenshots that are automatically taken by the feedback tool turn out garbled or all black. Another potential fix for this is expected next week. Jumplist entries are not consistent between the Start Menu and the Task Bar for some users. We believe this is due to the shortcut on the Start Menu not getting migrated properly after an Edge update and are working on a fix. Sometimes the browser will appear to not respond to any user input (clicking or scrolling in webpages doesn’t do anything, hovering over UI doesn’t make it change), but clicking on certain buttons still works (like the … menu). The cause of this is due to an error in the GPU process, and opening the browser task manager (right-click near the window minimize/maximize/close buttons or hit shift+esc on the keyboard) will open a window that will allow you to end the GPU process, which will fix the issue. And now, for all of the new things that are worth noting: Added features: Added the ability for websites installed as apps to be restored when a browser session is restored after update, crash, etc. Added support for an upstream Chromium policy that allows a user to remember a decision to open a link using another application (for example, to join a meeting in Microsoft Teams). Added support for periods in single-word intranet URLs. Added the ability to delete Collections items using the Delete keyboard key. Added a dialog for when browser sign-in is disabled by policy. Improved reliability: Fixed an issue where Edge crashes shortly after launch for some users if sync is enabled. Fixed an issue where right-clicking the back button crashes the browser. Fixed an issue where editing text in the address bar sometimes causes a browser crash. Fixed a browser crash when updating extensions. Fixed an issue where using the built-in abusive ad blocker sometimes causes the browser to crash upon launch. Fixed an issue where certain websites like YouTube rendered huge, making them unusable. Fixed an issue where print preview does not load. Fixed an issue where PDFs sometimes don’t load properly. Fixed an issue where right-clicking on a PDF sometimes causes the tab to crash. Fixed an issue where navigating to certain webpages with videos causes the tab to crash. Fixed an issue where Application Guard windows hang upon startup. Fixed an issue where all Edge windows open completely white with no UI, but disabling Application Guard mitigates the issue. Fixed an issue where certain DRM-protected videos don’t play. Fixed an issue where certain protected videos like from Netflix don’t work. Fixed an issue where tooltips don’t appear. Improved the reliability of history and favorites items appearing in the address bar suggestions dropdown. Improved the reliability of installation. Changed behavior: Fixed an issue where Single Sign-On stops working and users unexpectedly see a username/password prompt to log into websites. Fixed an issue where two Edge shortcuts are sometimes on the Taskbar after an update. Fixed an issue where Work profiles that were erroneously added to the browser were unremovable. Fixed an issue where Application Guard windows open when the browser is launched even though they shouldn’t. Fixed an issue where enabling Application Guard sometimes causes downloads to be blocked in non-Application Guard windows. Fixed an issue where the first run experience sometimes runs every time the browser is opened. Fixed an issue where the profile Settings page has no way for the user to fix an issue with their browser sign-in when one is needed. Fixed an issue where sync can’t be turned off while it’s in the “setting up” state. Fixed an issue where certain UI buttons show $1 instead of their keyboard shortcut in their tooltip. Fixed an issue where the favorites bar is shown when in full screen mode. Fixed an issue where Collections content sometimes gets truncated. Fixed an issue where Spellcheck squigglies appear in Collections items even though they aren’t actionable. Fixed an issue where an incorrect image is used when adding certain webpages to a Collection. Fixed an issue where clicking the button to open the text styles flyout in a Collection sometimes doesn’t work. Fixed an issue where text styling in a Collection isn’t applied properly when using the keyboard to do the selection. Fixed the text style dropdown when editing text in a Collection. Fixed an issue where Collections contents sometimes can’t be deleted. Fixed an issue where the cancel button isn’t functional in certain Collections dialogs. Fixed some issues with the Mac Touch Bar when working with multiple tabs at the same time. Fixed an issue where open tabs sometimes aren’t properly imported from Chrome. Fixed an issue where extensions aren’t sorted by name on the Extensions management page. Improved compatibility of certain websites with Tracking Prevention. Fixed an issue where Edge shortcuts were created in the wrong location in the Start menu. Thank you to everybody who’s been using Edge over the past year. With our GA just around the corner, we hope you know that this is just the beginning of our journey. The Edge Insider program and builds will continue even when there’s a Stable build available, and your feedback on them will be as crucial as ever!44KViews19likes299CommentsInking on Web Pages - Discussion
We have received a lot of feedback about supporting inking annotations for web pages like what we have in the current version of Microsoft Edge. Many users have told us that they use this functionality as a daily driver and would like to see it in the new version of Microsoft Edge as well. We would like to understand the scenarios in which you would use this functionality. Details about what you use it for, what are the expectations about availability of different tools, saving and sharing options etc. would be extremely useful in making sure we provide the best user experience to you. Your input will help us making sure that the feature works best for you.90KViews41likes292Comments*Updated 9/3* Syncing in Microsoft Edge Preview Channels
Syncing your browser data in Microsoft Edge Preview builds We heard your feedback and are committed to making sync a more reliable feature across devices. We’ve rebuilt our sync experience from the ground up and we’re making extra effort to ensure that sync meets your expectations. Our goal for sync is to ensure that you have a consistent browsing experience when you choose to roam your favorites, passwords, history, and other data across your devices. *Updated 9/3* What is the current state of sync and what is the road ahead? You can now sync Favorites, Settings (preference), Passwords & Form-fill data across Windows devices, and across Microsoft Edge on Android and iOS (instructions below). Sync is enabled for both Microsoft accounts (MSA) as well as work or school accounts (AAD). Note that AAD sync is only available for AAD premium accounts (SKUs which include Azure Information Protection) and is not yet rolled out for macOS. We are working on pending attributes and will be enabling them soon (history, extensions & open tabs) As we are building a new system, Edge builds are not expected to sync with earlier versions of Microsoft Edge. You can import your existing favorites from earlier versions of Microsoft Edge. Enabling sync on PC When you sign in with your Microsoft account on Microsoft Edge Insider Channels, you’ll get a dialogue asking for consent to enable sync. Once you give the consent, your favorites should start syncing. Note that you can customize the sync behavior from the sync settings page. Note that some attributes might be disabled on this page. They will be enabled on this page as we enable sync for them. Enabling sync on Android Our Microsoft Edge app on Android can now sync with the Microsoft Edge Insider Channels. But first, you’ll need to upgrade to the latest version on Google play. To sync with Microsoft Insider Channels, sign in with your Microsoft Account, ensure that it is selected as your active account, go to Settings > Account and select your Microsoft account, then select Microsoft Edge Insider Channels > Switch. After you switch to Microsoft Edge Insider Channels, you will be asked how you want to handle your existing favorites. You can choose to import and sync your existing favorites with Microsoft Edge Insider Channels. If you choose no, your existing favorites will be deleted before sync is enabled. If you choose to import favorites, when you visit Favorites for the first time, you’ll see all your current favorites and they’ll start syncing with your Microsoft Edge Insider Channels on your PC. Enabling sync on iOS We are happy to announce that we have expanded our sync support to iOS. To begin syncing your favorites between you iOS devices and your other Microsoft Edge Insider devices, you must first update Microsoft Edge for iOS to the latest version on iTunes. To sync with the Insider Channels you can follow similar steps as those listed above in the Sync with Android section. First you will need to sign in with your Microsoft Account, ensure that it is selected as your active account, go to Settings > Account and select your Microsoft account, then select Microsoft Edge Insider Channels > Switch. After you switch to Microsoft Edge Insider Channels, you will be asked how you want to handle your existing favorites. You can choose to import and sync your existing favorites with Microsoft Edge Insider Channels. If you choose no, your existing favorites will be deleted before sync is enabled. Once you have completed these steps you will see all of your imported favorites in your favorites list. What do you think? We are excited about sync in Microsoft Edge Insider Channels and are very optimistic that we are building it right. However, we want to be sure that sync works across your workflows and browsing scenarios. Please give it a try and let us know how it worked for you. If you run into any issues, use the in-app feedback button to submit the details. If you have other feedback for us about sync, please leave a comment below. Thank you for trying the new Microsoft Edge.Solved183KViews33likes279CommentsIntroducing Buy now, pay later in Microsoft Edge
“Buy now, pay later,” or BNPL, lets shoppers break their purchases into equal installment payments, often interest-free, which can allow shoppers to get their purchase upfront, instead of having to wait until it’s paid in full. Usually, BNPL is offered in specific ecommerce websites like Target, Walmart. But now, Microsoft partners with 3 rd party Zip (previously Quadpay) to offer a BNPL payment option at browser level. It means any purchase between $35 - $1,000 you make through Microsoft Edge can be split into 4 installments over 6 weeks. On top of coverage, we also aim to 1) meet you where you are. 2) simplify the application process. Meet you where you are: When you are in checkout page, you can find BNPL option right when you enter credit card number For some shoppers, you can also find BNPL option right when you enter checkout page. Simplify application process: Applying BNPL could take time, you need to sign in with zip every single time. With BNPL in Edge, you can simply link your Microsoft account with your zip account with one click and then bypass sign in from Zip side. It can expedite the application process for you. BNPL is currently available in Microsoft Edge Canary and Dev channels and will be available by default to all users in Microsoft Edge release 96. If you experience any issue while using this feature, please let us know through Microsoft Edge by pressing Shift+Alt+I on a Windows device or going to Settings and more … > Help and feedback > Send feedback. You can read more on the FAQ support article. Please also join us here on the Microsoft Edge Insider forums or Twitter to discuss your experience or send us your feedback through the browser! We hope you enjoy this exciting new feature and look forward to hearing from you!200KViews5likes263CommentsProvide run / open / save / save as options when downloading files - Discussion
Hello everyone and thanks for your significant interest in our feedback item of “Provide run / open / save as options when downloading files”. This has been a very interesting problem to think through. The downloads team would love your thoughts on whether we have identified the main customer needs such a feature would need to address. We believe that there are three main things being asked for: You would like a way to open a file without having to keep it on your computer so that your downloads folder remains “clean” (eg. You want to view your bank statement, but want it deleted after you are finished looking at it) You would like a way to choose the filename and location to save the downloaded file so that you can better organize your downloads (eg. You download a family photo IMG_1502.jpg and want to rename it to Reunion2019.jpg and save it in your Photos folder) You still want a light-weight downloads process that does not require many clicks (eg. User wants to download multiple photos in succession and move them in bulk afterwards without having to click “Save” each time). This is what our downloads flow currently addresses; one click to download. You would like a way to easily switch between (1), (2), and (3) for different files you are downloading; one size does not fit all (eg. For bank statements, you want to just open it, and have it deleted afterwards. But for family photos, you want to be able to rename and save to a specific location). Do you think we are thinking in the right direction? We are still exploring possible solutions to this problem and any additional feedback is most welcome!Solved52KViews72likes216CommentsIntroducing Sleeping Tabs Experiment: Improving Memory Usage in Microsoft Edge
Note: We are in the process of deploying this feature, so it may be a little while before you see it in your respective channel and build. To improve memory and CPU utilization of the browser, we've developed a feature called sleeping tabs. Early internal testing of devices with sleeping tabs has shown a median memory usage reduction of 26% for Microsoft Edge. Our internal testing has also shown that a normal background tab uses 29% more CPU for Microsoft Edge than a sleeping tab. These resource savings should result in excellent battery savings. Although individual device performance varies depending on configuration and usage, we expect the decrease in resource and battery usage to create a better browsing experience for users. Sleeping tabs builds upon the core of Chromium’s “freezing” technology. Freezing pauses a tab’s script timers to minimize resource usage. A sleeping tab resumes automatically when clicked, which is different than discarded tabs, which require the page to fully be reloaded. We built upon the freezing technology to create sleeping tabs. This feature allows inactive background tabs to “go to sleep,” releasing system resources after a set amount of time. These resources include both memory and CPU and can be used for new or existing tabs or other applications running on your device. By default, we’ve set tabs to go to sleep after two hours of inactivity. If two hours isn’t right for you, you can choose a different time interval in edge://settings/system. Tabs that are asleep will fade to let you know they’ve released resources. To resume a sleeping tab, click on it like a normal tab. The tab will un-fade and your content will be there immediately. You can also add sites you never want to sleep to a block list in Settings. With this technology, it is possible that some sites may not work as expected after they go to sleep. We have built heuristics to detect these scenarios and prevent those tabs from sleeping to keep you in your flow. We are eager to get your feedback on sleeping tabs. If you experience a compat issue, please refresh the page and let us know through Microsoft Edge by pressing Shift+Alt+I on a Windows device or going to Settings and more … > Help and feedback > Send feedback. Sleeping tabs will be coming soon to Canary and Dev Channels [87.0.649.0]. If you see the sleeping tabs feature while browsing, please join us here on the Microsoft Edge Insider forums or Twitter to discuss your experience, or send us your feedback through the browser! If you have any questions, see our FAQ or reach out to us. We hope you enjoy this exciting new feature and look forward to hearing from you! - The Microsoft Edge Product Team298KViews53likes214CommentsDev channel update to 81.0.381.0 is live
Welcome to the new year! Today we’re releasing build 81.0.381.0 to the Dev Channel, which as you can see is the first new build from major version 81. We haven’t been completely asleep during the holidays though; we’ve been slowing turning favorites sync back on for most Canary and Dev users, with the last of them coming back online a couple of days ago. As sync is re-enabled, some machines may experience duplication-like behavior as the machines get back into a clean state, but that behavior shouldn’t persist, and any changes you make to your favorites should now sync properly (but please let us know if that’s not the case!) We also have a couple of informational updates. First, we’ve proposed our security baseline configuration for when organizations install the Stable channel of Edge: https://blogs.windows.com/msedgedev/2019/12/18/security-baseline-draft-edge-79/. There’s an accompanying discussion over on the Security Baselines forum. Second, we started a discussion around the value proposition of Reading List and how users would like to see us evolve it moving forward: https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/t5/discussions/reading-list-discussion/m-p/1070553. As for the most noteworthy product changes: Added features: Added a feature to suggest URLs to visit that are similar to typed URLs that result in a failed navigation due to the fact that no webpage at the typed URL exists. Added a keyboard shortcut for starting Read Aloud (ctrl + shift + U). Added the ability to paste multiple items into a Collection at the same time. Added a dialog to tell users when a new data type is available to sync. Added support for Guided Switch to suggest going back to a personal profile when visiting links to certain non-work or school resources in a work or school profile. Added support for the Chromium management policy to disable web payment APIs in webpages. Added a management policy for disabling Microsoft Search for Business. Improved reliability: Fixed a crash when syncing favorites. Fixed an issue where favorites that are synced between multiple machines sometimes get deleted from one machine when they’re edited on another. Fixed a crash when syncing Collections. Fixed a crash when sync is enabled. Fixed a crash when syncing with Edge mobile. Fixed a crash when clearing browsing data. Fixed an issue where Collections don’t sync properly. Fixed a crash when importing certain data from other browsers. Fixed an issue where Edge fails to install due to a crash in the installer. Fixed an issue where uninstalling Edge and re-installing the same channel with a lower version number causes Edge to no longer launch. Fixed an issue where enabling Tracking Prevention prevents some pages from ever loading, regardless of the level Tracking Prevention is set at. Fixed an issue where certain videos don’t load when Tracking Prevention is enabled. Fixed an issue where Tracking Prevention prevented users from logging into certain websites. Fixed an issue where navigation in new tabs sometimes fails, either showing an error that the connection is closed or crashing the tab, but subsequent navigations are sometimes okay. Fixed an issue where typing in the address bar sometimes causes a crash. Fixed an issue where Edge is no longer able to launch after uninstalling and reinstalling it. Fixed a crash for users who have certain anti-virus programs installed. Fixed an issue where Amazon Music fails to play. Fixed an issue where sharing a local file (for example, a PDF that’s been downloaded onto the machine) fails. Fixed a crash during shutdown. Fixed an issue where the policy to enable/disable printing headers and footers doesn’t work. Improved the reliability of installation. Changed behavior: Fixed an issue where downloading files in IE mode tabs sometimes prevents the browser from being closed even after the downloads are completed. Fixed an issue where the user can’t remove pages from the list of pages to open when the browser first starts. Fixed an issue where removing a search provider in Settings sometimes results in the inability to add that same search provider again. Fixed an issue where the second page of the print preview dialog doesn’t render properly. Fixed an issue where unselecting categories to be synced during the First Run Experience sometimes results in those data types still being synced. Fixed an issue where the Office New Tab Page is broken. Fixed an issue where creating a new Collection sometimes fails. Fixed an issue where some images can’t be dragged and dropped into a Collection. Fixed an issue where using Collections sometimes causes error reporting dialogs to appear. Fixed an issue where certain suggested sites in the Pinning Wizard don’t get pinned to the taskbar. Fixed an issue where the toggle to sync open tabs isn’t functional. Fixed an issue where login details appear as autocomplete candidates for text fields that aren’t used for logging in. Fixed an issue where signing into the browser sometimes fails to properly set the profile picture. Fixed an issue on Mac where websites installed as apps don’t open and instead show an error if Edge isn’t already running. Fixed an issue on Mac where the update page spins forever or eventually shows an error after a successful update. Improved how much content is blocked by SmartScreen’s dangerous content blocker. Fixed an issue where highlighting text in the address bar then clicking on webpages sometimes causes black-on-dark text when the browser is in Dark Theme. Fixed some graphical flickering when switching between IE mode tabs and non-IE mode tabs. Fixed a white flash when entering Reading View. Improved the PDF reader’s background area color in Dark Theme. Fixed an issue where Application Guard windows sometimes don’t use the proper theme. Improved performance when opening Application Guard windows for the first time. Changed the name of the window that appears when you hover over a running instance of Edge on the Task Bar to only be the name of the active tab in that window instead of also containing the name of the profile and browser. Changed the behavior of “deprecated” management policies to still apply properly, which differs from Chrome’s definition of “not supported” policies. Both “not supported” in Chrome and “obsolete” in Edge are policies which are no longer supported and just show an error instead of being applied. Known issues: After an initial fix for it recently, some users are still experiencing Edge windows becoming all black. UI popups like menus are not affected and opening the Browser Task Manager (keyboard shortcut is shift + esc) and killing the GPU process fixes it. Some users are still not seeing Collections being enabled by default on Canary and Dev. For users who want to try Collections, enabling the flag at edge://flags/#edge-collections should still work to turn on the feature. We’re looking forward to the release of the Stable channel soon, and thank you for all the help you’ve given us in getting to that point!62KViews27likes205CommentsRoadmap for PDF reader in Microsoft Edge
Update - March 1st, 2021: We've published an updated version of this roadmap. Check out Aditi's update over here, and we encourage you to continue to drop your PDF reader feedback into the comments of that post! Over the course of last year, we worked hard on building a powerful PDF reader that fulfils the needs of compatibility, reliability and security for you and your organization. The feedback we received from you with the Edge Insider builds has been really encouraging, and here are some of the most asked features that are available today, across Windows and Mac: Create highlights with Highlight mode: Draw attention to parts of the PDF that you find interesting with Highlights. With Highlight mode, you can now create highlights directly by selecting text, as you would do with a highlighter and paper. Fill PDF forms Ink on PDF files with colors and stroke width of your choice View PDFs in Dark mode Open Microsoft Information Protection (MIP) and Information Rights Management (IRM) protected PDF and view permissions Accessibility support including keyboard accessibility, screen reader support, and capability to view PDFs in high contrast mode Read Aloud Here are the features we’re currently working on: Smoother scroll experience: We are bringing the smooth scroll of Legacy Edge to the modern browser. (Edge 086: In Canary, Dev, and Beta today) Table of Contents: You will soon be able to view the contents of PDF files and navigate through the file with the same. (Edge 086: In Canary, Dev, and Beta today) Text notes: With this, you will be able to add their own notes to text in PDF files. These notes will travel with the PDF. Protected PDF files: Microsoft Information Protection adds a layer of security to your documents. It ensures that only the users who have certain permissions as view, copy, annotate can take those actions on the file. Hence, no matter where the document goes, the data of your organization remains secure. Viewing labels of protected files: You will soon be able to view the sensitivity labels Viewing MIP files protected in other tenants: This will enable you to view the files protected in other organizations, or in other tenants in the organization. Digital signatures: View and validate certificate based Digital signatures on signed files. Accessibility improvements: With this, you will be able to fill PDF forms using screen readers, and navigate through PDF documents using caret mode. We are actively looking at feedback from you about the features you find important. Please feel free to comment below, or submit detailed feedback through the browser (Shift+Alt+I).191KViews42likes194CommentsWhat we're hearing from you
Note: This is no longer the most recent top feedback summary. You can always find the latest at https://aka.ms/MSEdgeTopFeedback. Hello insiders, we’re listening! Over these past months we have been busy reading all the great feedback you've been sending us through the "Send feedback" smiley, here on the insider forum, and to our @MSEdgeDev Twitter handle. As we go through the feedback, common themes, popular suggestions, and bugs with broad impact emerge. We've been highlighting this "top feedback" within the team, and we'd like to share it with you as well. Starting with this post, we will regularly summarize the most significant feedback we are hearing from you and give you an update on the status of each item. We'll also highlight some of the changes we've made that were inspired or prioritized because of your feedback. Check out the list below, and of course use this forum thread to share your thoughts and discuss. Your feedback has directly led to many improvements. Here are just some of the most notable, now available in the Canary channel: Dark theme is here! The most common request over the last several months is to add a dark theme to Edge – check it out in Settings under Appearance today! Need help translating? Bing Translate is now built into Microsoft Edge – look for the prompt offering a translation the next time you encounter a page that isn't in your language Do you want more control over the data your browser keeps? Check out the privacy controls in Settings under Privacy and services, including the option to Choose what to clear every time you close the browser. Don’t want to see the favorites bar all the time? There is now an option in Settings under Appearance that allows you to show it only when you open a new tab. Are you annoyed by all the ads competing for your attention while you're trying to focus? Try Reading View for a distraction-free reading experience – look for the book icon in your address bar. Want to sign-in and sync to AAD accounts just like your Microsoft account? Sign-in and sync of AAD accounts is now available. Here are some top feedback topics we plan to address in the coming months. (Of course, plans can change. We'll make sure to let you know if timing or direction shift on any of these.) Planned to be addressed in the Canary channel in September 2019: An option to prevent auto-play of video and audio when you open a website A round of improvements to scrolling experience, with more (including performance) to come down the line The addition of a favorites button to the toolbar, to provide quicker access to favorites Planned to be addressed in the Canary channel in October 2019: Inking on PDFs When you sign-in to the browser, your sign-in profile picture will accurately be kept up to date. When you have more than one profile, better handling for opening links and attachments in the appropriate profile. An option to set your own photos as the background image on the New Tab Page Enable search in the extensions store A bug fix for users who receive an “Administrator Mode Detected” notification (advising them to close and relaunch the browser in non-administrator mode) each time they launch Edge ClickOnce deployment of Windows applications from web pages The team is reviewing the following feature requests and we'll be sure to let you know if they're getting ready to show up in one of our channels: Feature requests for the New Tab Page, including the capability to turn off the news feed, to hide the Bing search bar, to change the search provider, to rename tiles, and to support Dark Theme Bring back features from the current version of Microsoft Edge such as tab set aside, tab preview, "Ask Cortana", and the reading list Make it easier to share web content with other users and apps Provide an option to set a custom home page Update the user interface with the Fluent Design System, including less rounded tabs Support themes from the Chrome Web Store Allow sign-in to the browser with a Google account Provide different options for sorting favorites Provide run / open / save / save as options when downloading files Finally, there are a few areas where you've told us our quality needs to improve. We are investigating these areas and will fix specific bugs when they are identified: Edge should use less memory and CPU than it does Scrolling should feel smoother, both for web pages and PDFs Update does not always work reliably Drop-down menus in some web pages are not working You can help in these areas by keeping the bug reports coming. Whether you have a major issue or a minor glitch, if you see something, click the "Send feedback" smiley and tell us briefly what happened. Every report helps! Thank you all for being insiders. Your feedback motivates and inspires us, and we genuinely appreciate it. We look forward to sharing these updates on a regular basis to show how you're helping to set the direction of the next version of Microsoft Edge. -David Rubino Microsoft Edge Team57KViews42likes180CommentsOngoing sync between Microsoft Edge and Chrome - Discussion
Thanks for your feedback requesting the ability to have ongoing sync between Microsoft Edge and Chrome. While we recognize this need, we’re currently focused on creating great 1st party sync experiences with your Microsoft account and Work or School account. If you are a Chrome user today, you already have option available to import all your data from Chrome to have Microsoft Edge personalized with all your browsing data. If you are still looking for ongoing sync between Microsoft Edge and Chrome, please share some more details about your scenario. Why would you like an ongoing sync between the two? What problem would it solve for you? Do you expect to leverage this ongoing sync only for a short period of time (for instance during initial assessment of Microsoft Edge) or for long period (continue to use multiple browsers)? How would the absence of this ability change your perspective on Microsoft Edge adoption? Would the creation of a Chrome extension fulfil your requirement? We will keep you updated as we better understand the needs of our community.Solved123KViews11likes180CommentsDev channel update to 80.0.361.5 is live
Hello insiders, today we’re releasing build 80.0.361.5 to the Dev channel! This is the final build for major version 80, which means it’s also our next Beta channel candidate. This is also the final Dev channel update for the year; we don’t expect to publish anything more until January. However, we couldn’t leave you without some holiday treats, so here are all of the feature rollouts that have been recently completed for the Canary and Dev channels. First, we’ve officially opened up the new Edge Extension Store for submissions! You can read more about the process for submitting to the store in this blog post: https://blogs.windows.com/msedgedev/2019/12/16/get-started-extensions-addons-microsoft-edge-chromium. Next, for the web developers, we’ve published an example application on our GitHub page that serves as a comprehensive API demonstration of our new WebView2 control. You can read more about how to use it in this blog post: https://blogs.windows.com/msedgedev/2019/12/11/webview2-interactive-api-sample. For our ARM enthusiasts, we’re bringing our native ARM64 builds to the Dev channel today! These builds have been in Canary for the last few weeks, and we’ve ironed out most of the major issues during that time. There’s still one known issue though: certain DRM video on some websites doesn’t play properly. If you didn’t see it last week, we made a short post here about some of our work on the Mac touch bar: https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/t5/Articles/Try-the-revamped-Touch-Bar-experience-on-Microsoft-Edge-on-Mac/m-p/1061372. Finally, we’ve got three features to look for in upcoming builds. One of them is what we’re calling the “pinning wizard”. It will occasionally pop up from your Task Bar and suggest top websites from your history to pin directly to the Task Bar as installed websites. It can also be used at any time from … > More tools. For users of high contrast themes in Windows, Edge now supports high contrast themes as well! It will follow the theme you’ve chosen in the OS Settings and brings us back to parity with the support offered in Edge Legacy. And for users of Immersive Reader (formerly known as Reading View), we’ve greatly expanded the number of color themes you can choose from. Many of these are specially designed to reduce eye strain and increase reading comprehension. Before we get on with the rest of the features and additions that are worth mentioning this week, you should know that favorites sync is still disabled for the majority of users. This includes brand new machines you install Edge on, so if you’re setting up Edge for the first time and want access to your favorites, you’ll need to manually export your favorites to a file on a different machine and import them on the new one. We’re also working on a deduplication mechanism once favorites sync is re-enabled, which should prevent new duplicates from coming in as well as remove duplicates for users who have already had their favorites duplicated. Added features: Added support for Dolby Vision playback. Enabled users of Windows Mixed Reality to view 360° videos on VR headsets. Improved reliability: Fixed a crash when opening certain PDFs. Fixed an issue where clicking on the Feedback button crashes the browser. Fixed a browser crash for users of Collections. Fixed a crash when closing the browser. Fixed an issue where typing passwords into password fields sometimes causes a tab crash. Fixed a crash when playing the Surf game. Fixed an issue where certain websites don’t load properly. Fixed an issue where Netflix playback fails for certain videos with error D7381. Changed behavior: By request, favorites folders are now yellow. Updated Adobe Flash to version 32.0.0.303. Fixed an issue where PDFs that fail to save for some reason end up failing silently instead of showing an error to the user. Fixed an issue where the font dropdown in Settings doesn’t work. Fixed an issue where the search engine can’t be edited because the Save button doesn’t work. Fixed an issue where the current display language can be removed from Edge even though it shouldn’t be. Fixed an issue where Edge installations on Azure Active Directory domain-joined machines get signed into the wrong account on first run. Fixed an issue where some webpages aren’t able to be translated, and instead show an error saying that the source language and target language are the same. Fixed an issue where Learn More links clicked during the First Run Experience open in tabs hidden behind the FRE instead of in a dialog above it. Fixed an issue where navigation to certain websites in IE mode sometimes fails. Fixed an issue where adding an item to a Collection sometimes doesn’t load the image properly and instead shows the loading spinner forever. Fixed an issue where pasting items from one Collection into another doesn’t paste them in the correct order. Fixed an issue where dragging and dropping an image into a Collection sometimes results in the wrong link being saved. Fixed an issue where feedback screenshots sometimes don’t work properly on Mac. Fixed an issue where the keyboard shortcut for saving a PDF doesn’t work on Mac. Fixed an issue where desktop notifications are broken on Windows Insider builds. Fixed an issue where Edge sometimes fails to automatically update on Windows Insider builds. Fixed an issue where uninstalling and reinstalling Edge sometimes results in it no longer being able to launch on Windows Insider builds. Known issues: Navigation in new tabs sometimes fails, either showing an error that the connection is closed, or crashing the tab. In some cases, subsequent navigations in the tab are okay. After an initial fix for it recently, some users are still experiencing Edge windows becoming all black. UI popups like menus are not affected, and opening the Browser Task Manager (keyboard shortcut is shift+esc) and killing the GPU process fixes it. Highlighting text in the address bar then clicking on webpages sometimes causes black-on-dark text when the browser is in Dark Theme. The Settings page appears too big/zoomed in on certain machines. Some users are still not seeing Collections being enabled by default on Canary and Dev. For users who want to try Collections, enabling the flag at edge://flags/#edge-collections should still work to turn on the feature. Jumplist entries are not consistent between the Start Menu and the Task Bar for some users. We believe this is due to the shortcut on the Start Menu not getting migrated properly after an Edge update and are working on a fix. Additionally, after getting the update for the new icon, there are still places on the Start Menu, for example when searching, that still show the old icon. Other places like the Task Bar may be able to be fixed by un-pinning and then re-pinning any Edge shortcuts that already exist there. Thank you for a great 2019 and for all of your help building both this community and the new Edge. We couldn’t have done it without you!45KViews23likes178CommentsDiscussion: Add ability to close tabs via double-click
Hey Insiders, thanks for your continued feedback to help us improve Microsoft Edge! Recently we have noticed a growing trend in requests to support double clicking on a tab to close it. Even just receiving this feedback is helpful in highlighting the importance of efficiency and ease when managing and closing tabs, and also communicates a user problem that the tab close button can sometimes be difficult to interact with quickly. As for the best way to address this user problem, we’d like to get additional context from you on the benefits and risks of different options. While double clicking on a tab can indeed be a very easy and quick way to close a tab, it also comes with the risk that if users are quickly clicking to switch between tabs, they might accidentally close a tab unintentionally by clicking on one twice. Given accidentally closing tabs is another top pain point users have shared with us, we want to be especially careful that we aren’t making that problem worse. We also wanted to share that another existing mouse-centric method for quickly closing a tab with a single click is to middle (mouse-wheel) click on a tab, which it could be argued is easier and faster than double clicking, though of course not everyone has a mouse that supports middle (mouse-wheel) click. Given the potential risks of double clicking and the alternative middle click solution discussed here, please let us know if and why you feel double clicking is a superior method. We're also curious to know if you have any additional solutions to the problem of easily and quickly closing a tab that haven’t been discussed and avoid some of the risks discussed here. Thanks for your thoughts and suggestions, we couldn't do this without you! - The Microsoft Edge Team44KViews17likes165CommentsKeep Favorites Synced between Internet Explorer and Edge NOT available in Edge Chromium
85 does have Roaming with AD Sync to a users home drive. So not Folder Redirection but this works. Except I cannot seem to get Collections Roaming enabled no matter how hard I try. It is "locked" when I go to Sync. So I expect that it isn't supported in AD Sync because I have not blocked it in GPO at all. Note that the Home Drives are redirected to the server share with %homeshare%%homepath% and it does successfully add to the Edge folder on the server home drive. You can see it here. edge://sync-internals/ Edge Settings to enable the Roaming User Configuration - Administrative Templates Microsoft Edge Browser sign-in settings = Enabled - Browser sign-in settings = Enable browser sign-in Configure automatic sign in with an Active Directory domain account when there is no Azure AD domain account = Enabled - Configure automatic sign in with an Active Directory domain account when there is no Azure AD domain account Sign in and make domain account non-removable Enable using roaming copies for Microsoft Edge profile data = Enabled Set the roaming profile directory = Enabled Set the roaming profile directory = ${documents}\Edge Configure the list of types that are excluded from synchronization = Enabled - Configure the list of types that are excluded from synchronization passwords extensions addressesAndMore Enable the Collections feature = Enabled (Although this doesn't roam which I am not sure why) Original Post. We run a huge hospital domain with 86,000 workstations. We have extended support for Windows 7 because many of the hospital apps need IE and ActiveX to run. We are trying to move the users off IE and onto Edge Chromium but one KEY part is missing in the Group Policies. The "Keep Favorites Synced between Internet Explorer and Edge" NOT available in Edge Chromium Group Policy. This setting is ESSENTIAL to our clients. Favorites are stored via Folder Redirection on the Active Directory Home Drive Servers so nurses that roam between 30 machines always have their Favorites. If their Links are not available then it will impact patient care. We have the setting set in Microsoft Edge and it works just fine. Where is the Setting for Edge Chromium? I don't understand why Microsoft would abandon the ability to have Favorites and Links Roam. "If you enable this setting, employees can sync their favorites between Internet Explorer and Microsoft Edge."Solved71KViews11likes163CommentsIntroducing web capture for Microsoft Edge
Since the release of the new Microsoft Edge, we have heard a lot of feedback about missing the web notes tool that allowed you to capture and mark up content across the web. Frankly, we’ve missed it too! But first, we wanted to make it better. While web notes was a great feature, there was also room for improvement. Many of you reported using it for capturing quick screenshots to copy or share, while others loved the ability to to mark-up full webpages with scrolling. So, we designed the new screenshot feature, web capture, with this in mind and are excited to introduce the basic screen capture functionality to our Dev and Canary builds. In the near future, you can expect to see more functionalities added to web capture, like adding ink or highlights to your captures, capturing full webpages, and scrolling while marking them. To try it out, use the Settings and more menu (...) in the top right corner of the browser and select Web capture. When you open web capture, you can use the selection tool to capture just the content you want. We found that sometimes you want more than what you’re able to see on the webpage, so we have added the ability for you to select content lower down on the page. To do this, just hold down the selection tool and drag to the bottom of the page; the page will automatically start to scroll so that you can capture everything you need in one go. Once you are done with the capture, you will see a menu with a couple of options: 'Copy' and 'Add notes'. Click Copy to add the image to your clipboard. It will then be available for you to paste into any application. If you want to mark up the screenshot with inking tools, select the Add notes option. You will see the image in a dialog box where you can draw on it, share, save and copy with your annotations. If you love web capture and want to access the tool more quickly, you can pin it directly to your browser toolbar. Just right click on the option in the Settings and more menu (...) and select Show in toolbar. You can also use the keyboard shortcut (Ctrl+Shift+S) to invoke web capture. Try out the new tool and let us know what you think! We love hearing your feedback. From within Microsoft Edge, you can go to “…” menu > Help and feedback > Send feedback, or simply use the shortcut (Shift+Alt+I) to open the feedback tool. - The Microsoft Edge Product Team341KViews33likes158CommentsAnnouncing the Open/Save as/Save and Delete prompts for downloads!
Update: Open/SaveAs is now available on Edge Stable ( version >= 86.0.622.38) Greetings, Microsoft Edge Insiders! As a part of our top feedback, we have been looking at implementing features from Microsoft Edge legacy. One of those items is a feature asking users if they want to Open, Save As, Save, or Cancel a download. This week, we're excited to announce that this setting is now available in our Dev and Canary channels! We expect all builds with version >= 87.0.629.0 to have this feature. To enable it, navigate to edge://settings/downloads and toggle on, "Ask me what to do with each download." Once you download a file after enabling that setting, you will see options to: Open the file, which downloads it to a temporary folder and opens the file. This temporary folder will attempt to clear itself whenever you start a new browser session Save as, which opens the file explorer, allowing you to rename and choose where the file is saved Save the file, located under the ... button, which saves the file to your default downloads folder (you can also change this on the Downloads settings page) Cancel the file download entirely, this is also located under the ... button Another feature we're adding is the ability to delete downloads directly from the browser itself. If you head to the Downloads page, you can now right-click on a downloaded item (or the ... menu for the item in the download shelf/bar) and select "Delete file." Once you do this, the file will be deleted from your computer. We hope that this will help users who like to download files automatically while still keeping their downloads folder clean. We encourage you to give these changes a try! Have a suggestion on how to improve these new download features? Navigate to the browser's ... menu > Help and feedback > Send feedback to let us know your thoughts. - The Microsoft Edge Product TeamSolved66KViews31likes149Comments
