Modern Experience

Came into work this morning to discover my tenant no longer has access to the Top Link Bar in our SharePoint sites while using the Modern experience. Has anyone else encountered this? *Edit* This appears to have affected sites with Publishing enabled. Top link bar isn't visible while using any app or Pages. Site Collections started Classic but are mostly Modern at this point. Hasn't been an issue ever.Solved58KViews1like79CommentsConfigure Search Results in Modern page (Modern Search Center)
Has anyone been able to modify the search results page of Modern Pages which seems to have missing that at present. There is no way to customize the results view, switch to classic view, use custom result sources or redirect to enterprise search center. It always defaults to "/search/sitefiles" location instead of only "/search". Is there a way to hook into the route and default it to global or do any of the above. If the modern search results page is not customizable, is there a way (powershell, csom or configurable) way to redirect to classic SharePoint search center page.45KViews0likes17CommentsSharePoint Modern Pages - remove white space
Hi All, With modern pages in SharePoint, there is always about 30-40% of the screen that is unused. There is no option to remove that space or the webparts do not span across the entire width as well. We have tried changing the section columns as well. Can anyone throw light on 1. How can we edit the styles on the modern pages? 2. Is Microsoft providing us some options to customize the pages on modern pages, if so by when? Thanks, Manoj36KViews3likes9CommentsCompany Logo looks terrible on Modern Site Pages
Our company logo is rectangular like most and looked fine on standard pages, but looks very odd on modern site pages. See examples. Are there settings to improve the rendering? Below is a traditional page, followed by the modern page.Solved34KViews2likes27CommentsUploading and playing videos in SharePoint modern sites
I searched a lot of threads an they were either ~2 years old or talked about using Stream/O365 Video. On our new Modern site, I uploaded three MP4 videos to a both a SharePoint Asset Library and Video library (activated video and rich media feature). I am trying to find the embed code so I can embed the video on our home page, but I don't seem to be able to find it. Is there a way to upload MP4 videos to Modern SharePoint site and then embed them into web page? I can only get link and when I add the link, it doesn't look nice vs. embedded videos Also, does anybody know if SharePoint online modern sites' 'support MP4 videos? I imagine hundreds of users may watch this video at a time. We don't want to use Stream as it prompts the users to log in thoughts?Solved34KViews0likes9CommentsCustom New/Edit/Display forms with Modern Experience Lists
Hey all, I found a way to be able to customize the new, edit, and display forms for a list/library while still keeping the modern experience. It is detailed in this post: https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/7410b226-9cba-4deb-aae7-54dd915529ae/custom-edit-form-for-document-library-in-o365-sharepoint-online?forum=sharepointdevelopmentprevious Basically, you create a custom page with designer and tell the list to use your new page for the default. I'm looking at customizing this form, but I was wondering if this is too hacky, and may lead to problems down the road. Previously, lists where I had to have a custom form, I just left them at the classic experience.29KViews2likes7CommentsModern Page Experience availability in SharePoint 2016 On-Prem Server
What exactly is required to enable the modern page experience in SP 2016 on-prem server? I think wbaer's Feature Pack 2 Post alludes to this functionality. But I was hoping someone could clarify for me from a non-dev perspective. :D Cheers!29KViews1like21CommentsModern SharePoint site "Theme" suddenly changed from our Organization theme setup in Admin Portal
We use SharePoint Online and primarily have Modern sites created from O365 Groups. Late last week I noticed that our Modern sites (Group, Team & Communication sites) seem to have somehow reset and are no longer using the theme designated in the Admin Portal under Settings- Organization Profile. Our classic sites and SharePoint Home still show our Org theme. But, most of our sites are showing MS blue & white. I can't seem to change this. I've tried reapplying our theme but, no dice. Any ideas?Solved28KViews1like58CommentsModern subsites?
All flavors of "Modern sites" that are created now are Site collections by definition with the top level site providing the "Modern" UI experience. I'm wondering what the future is for subsites in the "modern" experience? I know you can create a classic subsite and add modern pages to it, but that's not quite the same thing. And you don't get some of the modern features. E.g. you can't apply the modern themes to these sites from the Settings gear. I know a lot of organizations have made mistakes in trying to put all content in a single site collection, but I'm also wondering if having all sites in single-site site collections makes sense? Are Hubs enough to manage those? And what do we do with all the classic sites that are organized into subsite hierarchies? Does anyone know what the future is for the modern experience and subsites beyond Hubs?25KViews5likes29CommentsModern Team Sites vs. Communication Sites--is there really a difference?
I may be late to this conversation if it's been had already, but now that my organization has gained access to more Modern page design features (editable banner, Hero web part, Events web part, layout options), I'm left wondering if there is no fundamental difference between Modern Team Sites and Communication Sites other than what you start out with when the site is created. I'm looking mainly at how a Communication Site's structure can, as it seems to me, be built using webparts and configuration items available in Team sites. Given that, currently, newly created Communication Sites are their own site collections, I'm not seeing a reason to start out with a Communication Site when I can just build one from a gutted Team site. Can anyone tell me what significant differences there are between a Modern Team Site and a Communication Site may be?Solved22KViews1like19Comments
