Spell check broken in new Teams 2.0 client
Greetings, we have about 100 users running Teams 2.0 and a handful of users, myself included, are seeing issues with the spell check. It will work for maybe 10 minutes, maybe a hour, maybe a day or two, but eventually will stop working. It will no longer flag misspelled words.
The only fix is to reset the app/cache. Rebooting, uninstalling does fix it.. Just a cache reset. Once we do that, it starts working again, for 10 minutes, maybe an hour, who knows. But it will always fail again.
Has anybody else seen this?

Hello
Did you fined the solution?
I am very mad, in my org it also does not work. So we did not turn on new version until they did it forcedly.

The same here, NEW MS Teams: service 24004.1309.2689.2246 ; client 49/24020205515 .
Spell check is totally broken. New Teams is s#t !
Microsoft fix it! or let me use the old classic Teams (1.7) and stop forcing me to upgrade!- tk093Iron ContributorSorry, wish i could help. Still no issues here since they fixed it a few weeks ago. We turned on the toggle for users to switch on their own starting Monday. Already had close to 1000 people make the switch and so far no reported issues. About 90% of them are on 24004.1309.2689.2246. Probably should open a ticket with Microsoft.

I am still using the old Teams: I have been constantly checking for months the page below (listing all known issues in Teams 2.0), waiting for the spell checker issue to disappear: no news, always on top.
https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoftteams/new-teams-known-issues
"The team is focusing on this issue with a high priority", but still not fixed. Wow... and my old Teams just started warning me that in few weeks he'll switch to the "New" forever...
How can it be so difficult to fix it?

tk093 not working for us either, classic version is working but not the new one...

I've enabled public preview but can't find any way to force it to update. Mine still shows the 23335 build with (preview) tacked onto the end. I've repaired and reset the app but still can't get it to update to a 24 build. The reset (or something I did) fixed the spell check, but I'm expecting it to be temporary with the 23 build.
EDIT: My preview-enabled client finally updated too. It's now this version:
You have Microsoft Teams version 24004.1309.2689.2246(preview).
You've got the latest version. It was last updated on 2/15/2024.
The client version is 49/24010419121.My non-preview client version updated to a v24 build today as well. That version number is in the next reply. Hopefully, with the v24 rolling out in a non-preview release, the spell check issue will be resolved.

My test account got a 24004 build on a new install. That account is not enabled for preview builds. Meanwhile, my preview enabled account is on an older build than my test account.Preview build finally updated.
Microsoft ¯\_(ツ)_/¯test account's Teams version:
You have Microsoft Teams version 24004.1307.2669.7070.
You've got the latest version. It was last updated on 2/15/2024.

I have been experiencing this issue for months and I have tried all the suggestions. Most of them worked, for an hour or two, then it would break again. As a dyslexic who is currently working 100% remote, and using Teams as my primary communication channel, this is EXTREAMLY FRUSTRATING.
On a positive note, this afternoon I received a Teams update and spell check is now working. We will see how long it lasts.
Microsoft Teams version 24004.1307.2669.7070
Microsoft Teams Client version 49/24010419128
- superray72Brass ContributorHow did you get that new version? MS doesn't show that version on their website.

The update was presented to me in Teams. A small notification was shown next to my picture in the top right corner of the client. I did not get a screenshot but marked the location here:
After the client restarted the spell check was working. So far it is still working (20 hours and two reboots later). This is the longest it has functioned for me in months.
I work in the IT department, so I am approved to get public preview versions of Teams, however I am currently not on a preview version.
- RIHelpDeskCopper ContributorI fixed this by going to:
Installed apps > Microsoft Teams > Click the 3 dots on the right side and select "Advanced options"
Then at the bottom select "Reset"
This is the new way to clear the Teams cache as the old location is for the Classic Teams.
You wouldn't lose any data or have to sign back in. I have had to do this a few times already so it looks like it's a temporary fix for now.- cjshalbsCopper Contributor
I followed the "reset" instructions from Installed Apps and it corrected the spellchecker. My New Teams now provides spell checking assistance as expected.
- DPerremanCopper ContributorFYI: The RIHelpDesk recommendation of resetting new Teams to fix spellcheck worked for me:
In the "Windows Settings" app, get to "Apps & features";
Select the "Microsoft Teams (work or school)" item and then click "Advanced options";
Click the "Reset" button and then confirm your selection.- alecalec202Copper Contributor
can confirm - worked for me

My spell check was broken after launching it again today. This time, I quit Teams and renamed "MSTeams_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalCache". After launching Teams again, spell check worked.
- krindfleischCopper ContributorI'm using Teams VDI preview. Spell check has been broken for a while. I just quit Teams and renamed my Teams folder in "C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Local\Packages\MSTeams_8wekyb3d8bbwe", and it worked. I'll report back in a few days...

tk093 Hello Christopher. Could you please let me know if spell check ever worked on new teams. As far as my understanding goes it never worked as it is listed as a known issue in their page.
Please refer to the page https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoftteams/new-teams-known-issues.
- Language-aware spell checking is currently not available in the new Teams. The team is focusing on this issue with a high priority. Check back for updates.
- On Windows, spell checking is limited to English (United States) dictionaries. Until this feature is fixed, users can disable spell checking from the settings page.
- Some spell checker suggestions for English can be inaccurate. A Windows fix is pending, with an estimated rollout date of January. Users can choose to disable spell checking from the settings page until then.
Are you using windows 10 or 11? Can you let me know what is the current webview version you have?
Please go to setting -> Add or remove programs -> search for webview. It has to be version 120 or above.
Please check and get back to me.

I can confirm that spell check feature was functional in "New" Teams for our organization late last week. The functionality was slow (5-10 second delay before red-underlines) in the "New" app, but it was working.
Over the last few days, most users utilizing the "New" desktop app have reported a total loss of spell check functionality. Spell check still works in the "Classic" desktop app and in the "New" browser app, but those both likely used different reference dictionaries?Windows 10

- DaveTheTeamsGuyIron ContributorIt doesn't look like it's working for en-US dictionaries either.
