Generating an Administrator Token
The administrator functions built into Yammer work well, but what if you want to perform an administrator function outside of what's built for you? If you ask around, you may find someone advising you to take advantage of the REST API, but if you don't know where to start, then you've come to the right place. Because you can't fully use the REST API and you can't run any of the scripts posted in this community if you don't have a token. This token is like your username and password, and is what allows you to tell Yammer that the script you're running is you. Getting one of these things used to be relatively complicated, but is much simpler now. Step 1: Log into Yammer normally, then click this - https://www.yammer.com/client_applications Step 2: Click the big green box, Register a New App Step 3: Fill in the form. The name can be whatever you want, and the organization and email should match what is approprate for your organization. I always use Yammer as the redirect URI. Step 4: Now you're on the information screen and can go get your token. On the bottom of the screen is a link called "Generate a developer token for this application". Click that. Like magic, your very own scripting token will now appear. Copy and paste that into something safe and secure. Remember, this is your username and password all rolled up into one, and if someone gets that, they can perform the same functions on your network as you can. Guard it carefully. And then use it for the scripts you'll find elsewhere in this community. Enjoy!Tom KretzmerAug 16, 2017Bronze Contributor8.4KViews2likes4CommentsDisable users from creating new communities
Hi, is there an elegant way for me to disable all users from creating new communities? Ideally, I would have a few users that can open new communities. Viva Engage is in Native mode. Thanks. Dear Community, my users are asking me how to change the personal wallpaper (not the profile-picture nor the community-wallpaper) from the default-blue-comicish one. You can see a custom personal wallpapaer within the official ad-video at 0:47. Any suggestions? Hi there, I'm trialling Viva Engage for use running group education. I'd create a community for each of our groups. But when trying to upload a simple Word doc to a post, it says "Sorry, something went wrong when trying to upload Filename.docx. Please try again." I've tried using various methods (admin account, dummy participant account) and different files (in case the file was corrupt) and they still won't upload. Is this a bug or is there some other reason? ThanksSolvedjonathansilverAug 12, 2023Copper Contributor3.6KViews0likes5CommentsYammer Rest and Export API
Hi all, It's hard to find any information on whether the Yammer Rest API and Export API will be impacted by the rebranding to Viva Engage. My company uses it and I'd like to ensure we will not be impacted. ThanksErik_BrowningMay 12, 2023Copper Contributor3KViews1like5CommentsViva Engage access issue
Hi. Some of users in my organization have problem with logging into Viva Engage. After openning Viva Eng. site they gey communiacte: "You don't have access to Viva Engage. You don't have license to access Viva Engage.". The Viva Engage license is on (in the Office 365 E1), and day before issue, Viva was working properly. We tried to log out form MS365 services, clear browsers cache and the problem still exists. Anyone knows what to do?KonSanUMNov 28, 2023Copper Contributor2.7KViews1like3CommentsManage Yammer users across their life cycle from Office 365
After Yammer is activated on your Office 365 tenant, you, as the Office 365 administrator, can control the life cycle for Yammer users from Office 365. When you create users in Office 365, they can log on to Yammer with their Office 365 credentials. When a user is deleted from Office 365, they are automatically deactivated or suspended in Yammer. When a user is restored in Office 365, they are reactivated in Yammer. Also, the user's profile properties (such as name and department) from Azure Active Directory will be automatically populated in the user's Yammer profile, and any changes to the profile properties in Azure Active Directory will be reflected in Yammer as well. Hi everyone! I needed to edit a Viva Engage post with a link. I thought it was successful, because the text link was updated. However, the embedded link (the one that's in a rectangular box showing the link title and some text + image on the left side) is still showing the old link. How do I edit this embedded link, too? Or even just delete it completely.annac83Aug 14, 2023Copper Contributor2.5KViews0likes4CommentsAccess to Viva Engage in Teams but not to Yammer/Engage web portal?
I believe the answer to this is no, but I wanted to confirm with the experts. Is it possible to set it up so users can access the Viva Engage app in Teams, but cannot access the Engage/Yammer web portal?SolvedchagedornMay 01, 2023Brass Contributor2.4KViews2likes7CommentsAll Company Community Members Management
Hi All, Happy Friday! I have a question that I hope someone in this group can resolve/explain. Q: How do users become members of the All Company Community? The reason for my question is that I can see that new starters are joining the Community without joining Viva Engage. I had two new starters this week who joined the company and on 'day one' they could be found in the All Company Community (ACC). Yet they have never access Viva Engage. I have checked and we don't have the Group behind the ACC as Dynamic, it is set to Assigned. The two new starters are not members of the group either, yet I can see them in the members of the ACC. Also, I see members who have had their accounts disabled but their accounts haven't been deleted. We have circa 6700 active users but circa 10000 members in the ACC count. Any thoughts are welcome, I have setup a new user in my sandbox tenant but they haven't been listed in the ACC yet. Thanks, DamianSolvedDlewis-79Dec 01, 2023Brass Contributor2.4KViews1like4Comments
