Non-breaking spaces by default
Hi everyone,
I got a user who found that her print preview was weirdly formatted and after a bit of research I found that she had non-breaking space characters instead of regular spaces in her mails.
The issue is that it seems to be a kind of "by default" behavior for her when composing a new mail since she did not do that on purpose (by inputting the related key combination). The only workaround I found at the moment is telling her to copy and paste with "text-only" option to have regular spaces inserted instead of non-breaking ones.
Does anyone know how this can be fixed ?
Important note : macros are disabled by default in my organization so I can't craft some weird VBA script to fix this (and yes I tried since I am running out of ideas).
OK I found the source of this issue. The user was using an internal translation tool which used NBSP by default, I simply told her to paste the content using "text only" option.

Hi,
the Outlоok add-ins are also disabled? if yes, the only way I see is using plain text format instead of HTML.

Hi,
Yes they are unfortunately... I already tried the plain text thing but it does not convert the NBSP in regular spaces, the issue is also that we can't really set plain text as standard since we need proper mail signatures (with enterprise logo png, custom fonts, ...).

Loïc,
Just to be very clear on the problem a short test please:
Create a new email. Put the cursor in the body.
Turn on Show Formatting (Format Text -> {Paragraph Mark})
Press "Enter". You should see a {Paragraph Mark}.
Hit the spacebar, then Ctrl-Shift-Spacebar.
Normally, the first space should look like a small dot (normal Space). The second one should be a very small circle (NB Space).
If they are both NB Space then:
Compose something other than an email. e.g. Appointment, Task. Do the same test.
If you have Word installed, open a new Word document. Do the same test.- LoïcBrass Contributor
Hi,
I cannot access the user's machine right now but I can tell from the tests I have done with her that the "space" key inputs NBSP instead of regular spaces (I've seen them in the format view). Btw that was how I found out about non-breaking spaces, which I didn't know existed.
I will ask her for informations about the other Office apps.

And here is one more "off the wall" suggestion. I've seen strange things happen in Office depending on what Font you are using, particularly with older fonts. Never seen Plain Space being converted to NB Space, but just for grins, try composing in a different font.
And there is always, of course, the old completely uninstall, reboot, install from scratch.
