Migrating VM from Azure to VMWare
I need to migrate a VM from Azure to VMWare, preferably with an option to Sync the two. Has anyone had any experience with this and could advise on tools and methodology? I have tried VMWares P2V converter but it fails at 97% everytime so far.Michael TrieuSep 27, 2017Copper Contributor44KViews0likes7CommentsHow to upload files to Azure Virtual Machine
Hello, I am going to deploy a Windows Server 2016 Virtual Machine in Azure. After that, I would like to upload to this VM about 400 GB of files which are stored in my local File System . How can I achieve it? I was thinking in the following ways: Through copy-paste, but I would lose the control of the process if it fails. Using Mover.io but only offers the service if you upload files to Azure Blob Storage and I don't know if it is possible to use it with Virtual Machines. With Data Box, but this is only for large amount of data and I only need to upload 400 GB. Using another soluction (eg 'VeeamFastSCPAzure') Any suggestion? Thank you very much!Enrique SanchezMar 19, 2020Brass Contributor31KViews0likes5CommentsMigrate on-prem AD to azure AD having ADDS
I have to move legacy apps from on-prem to azure. What I read is to use ADDS for legacy apps authentication is the only option since some of my legacy apps are using SSO and some has service accounts at on-prem AD. the goals are below: Migrate on-prem active directory to azure active directory and have azure active directory domain services. Migrate local group policies to azure active directory domain services migrate all services accounts from azure managed identities so those can be used on legacy applications. Migrate all user profiles seamlessly. Completely demote on-prem active directory. The environment is having 956 users and 20+ applications. currently have on-prem AD and azure AD and users are hybrid joined. Please guide through the process and best practice for above scenario.securityxpert1122Sep 28, 2023Copper Contributor13KViews0likes3CommentsTransfer ressources from One Azure tenant to another
Hello Experts Talking about migration resources from One Azure Tenant to another . there is this option on transfering billing ownership of an azure subscription . What does this do exactly ? does it transfer the ressources physically to another tenant? What is the difference between this option and moving reources from One tenant to another? when do you use one or the another?Gaston NdoumbeJul 16, 2020Copper Contributor13KViews0likes2CommentsBest method for on prem DHCP when migrating all servers to Azure?
I'm moving all servers from our branch on prem sites to Azure including the domain controllers which provide dns/dhcp for clients and office phones. We have fortigate FWs which can provide dns and dhcp. What's the best way to align the dhcp addresses with dns? Forward dns to the azure dns servers? We do have an existing on prem DC with dns at our main site we also can forward dns to. Thanks a lot.Worm_IsThe_SpiceApr 01, 2021Copper Contributor11KViews0likes1CommentAzure VMware Solution vs Azure VMs
Hi everyone, I know that maybe the subject is a bit generic, but, if anyone would enlighten me on that I`d be really grateful. I`m currently considering migrating an existing VMware infrastructure (or part of it) to Azure. I can`t find a clear explanation of the main differences between the two Services above, or at least some use case. For instance, if I stand correctly, Azure Vmware solution is actually a bare metal private cloud, basically Microsoft WILL manage the hardware on their location, correct? While Azure VMs is just standard computing resources on top of which you can install specific workloads, or migrate existing ones. The question is, what are the pros and cons of adopting one of those solutions? Is there any link or info that I could use as a comparison? Thank you for any clarification. Cheers!JsTechApr 15, 2021Copper Contributor10KViews0likes1CommentMigrate VMs to Azure (Stack HCI)
Hi. I know this is a bit out of scope, but since Azure Stack HCI is still under the Azure programme, I ask it anyways. Would it be possible to extend the functionality of Azure Migrate to use an Azure Stack HCI cluster as destination for the VMs to migrate? Good morning, I am trying to extend AD to Azure. I did this, starting in Azure, by creating a Virtual Network, a class 16 subnet (10.0.0.0/16), a virtual Gateway, a local Gateway, an Azure Public IP Address, a connection, and a VM with a NIC in the Azure Platform (to be used for an ADDS server in the cloud). I created a Hyper-V lab with AD01 and WS01 with domain.com. I also did the following: - Configured AD Sites and Services for Azure Site wtih Azure Subnet (10.0.0.0/24) - I then added RRAS to my AD01. - I configured all the Azure resources I needed and assigned the GW its own subnet (10.0.1.0/24) - I created a new interface in RRAS to connect the VPN tunnel and connected both of them. THAT part worked just fine. - Once the VPN was connected, I created a VM in Azure for AD, called AD02. I set AD02 to have a DNS Address to match AD01. - I added ADDS to AD02 and went to promote the DC, but it failed to join the domain, because of the error: "Active Directory Installation Wizard The wizard cannot access the list of domains in the forest. The error is: The network path was not found." I can resolve out to the on_prem DNS Server from inside Azure. I joined the local WS01 to the domain on_prem, so I know the SRV records are correct and the domain join functionality is present. It almost seems like there are ports being blocked or packets being dropped. Only other bit of info is that this is on a home network, behind a modem/router/firewall, with 192.168.0.60 in the DMZ on the firewall and the VPN connection is not terminated at the modem/router/firewall/but at the RRAS Server (AD01). Abstract of network attached. Anyone have any thoughts?SolvedKurt JohnsonMay 20, 2017Copper Contributor8KViews0likes7CommentsError when moving resources
I am trying to move some resources (couple of VMs, virtual network, storage accounts) from one subscription to another. I am seeing this error. It is raised with support, but so far they have not been able to tell me what resources are causing the problem. The message does not identify them. As far as I know, none of our resources have been upgraded from Classic and there are no affinity groups in the Classic portal. It looks like at least one other person has seen this error (In the comments https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/azure-resource-manager/resource-group-move-resources) Does anyone know how I might be able to identify the problem resources? MoveCannotProceedBecauseOfResourcesInServiceManagementStackThe move request contains resources that were migrated from the Service Management stack. When the resources existed in the Service Management stack, they were associated with an affinity group that is still in use. Such moves are not supportedRyan ClarkNov 14, 2017Copper Contributor7.5KViews0likes5Comments
